so playgrounders I am looking for help getting an optimized melee specialist. To this end here are some things that I am looking for.
A race that ages slowly, must be a melee specialist but can have other tricks, should be a tunnel fighter and other neat tricks, must have regeneration & immune to all energies (fire, cold ect.)

Books allowed, basically any 3.0/3.5 book, no dragon/dungeon magazine, No homebrew and No Pathfinder stuff at all.
character level 15 Gestalt rules, one side PRC.

Edit
ring of energy immunity for all types of energy—fire, cold, electricity, acid, and sonic - solves one aspect of this nicely

Level 15 gestalt mele, regeneration, immunity to all energy types:
NG Whisper Gnome (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/ex/20040807a&page=3), Druid 15// Fast Movement Ranger (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/variantCharacterClasses.htm#ranger) 1/ Cloistered Cleric 1/ Barbarian 1/ Unarmed Swordsage 2/ Master of Many Forms 7/ Warshaper 3. Trade Rage for Whirling Frenzy (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/classFeatureVariants.htm#rageVariantWhirlingFrenzy ) and Barbarian Fast Movement for Lion Spirit Pounce (CC). Trade your free Knowledge domain for Knowledge Devotion and get the Planning and Undeath domains.

Regeneration: Take the feat Troll Blooded (Dragon 319 page 61, requires Toughness and two ranks in Knowledge: Local for one of its prerequisite regions). This gives you Regeneration 1, and you take normal damage from fire and acid. You can also Wild Shape into a War Troll (MM3) to get Regeneration 9, which can only be overcome by acid, as well as DR 5/Adamantine, SR 20, Darkvision 90 ft., Low-Light Vision, and Scent, plus superb physical stats and natural armor and Dazing Blow.

Immunity to all five energy types (that ring is an epic item, you can't get it before 21st level): Get a standard Metamagic Rod of Extend Spell and a 6th level Pearl of Power. Every other day prepare Energy Immunity (SC) twice, and cast it three times using the pearl and the rod so you have immunity to three energy types for 48 hours. On the days in between prepare Energy Immunity and Superior Resistance (SC) each once, use the pearl to cast Energy Immunity twice, and use the rod on those so you have immunity to the other two energy types and a +6 Resistance bonus to your saving throws for 48 hours. For the price of those two items and two 6th level spell slots per day, you're always immune to all five energy types and you have a +6 to your saving throws.

You'll want two flaws (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/buildingCharacters/characterFlaws.htm) (Bestial Instinct and/or Bravado and/or No Time For Book Learning and/or Love of Nature (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?258440-The-quot-Best-quot-Flaws#30)) for two extra feats, get Toughness, Troll Blooded, Power Attack, Natural Bond, Natural Spell, Multiattack, Persistent Spell, and Divine Metamagic: Persistent Spell. Your animal companion should be a Fleshraker dinosaur (MM3) or a Dire Eagle (RoS), both are 'level -3' companions but you'll be able to apply your full Druid level toward their benefits thanks to Natural Bond.

Get a Circlet of Rapid Casting (MIC) with a +6 Enhancement bonus to Wis (MIC p234) and a Wilding Clasp (MIC), a few Lesser Metamagic Rods of Extend, a Rod of Bodily Restoration (MIC), a bunch of Night Sticks (LM), a standard Strand of Prayer Beads with the Bead of Smiting removed (9,000 gp per DMG pricing), a bunch of Bone Talisman (http://archive.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mb/20040721a) (turning) spell foci with Unguent of Timelessness applied, and try to cover all the Necessary Magic Item (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?187851-3-5-Lists-of-Necessary-Magic-Items) effects. Every day use the Bead of Karma before casting your buffs, and buff yourself with (Extended) Greater Luminous Armor (BoED), DMM: Persistent Elation (whole party), DMM: Persistent Mass Lesser Vigor (whole party), DMM: Persistent Bite of the Werebear or Weretiger, DMM: Persistent Stormrage, Heart of Air/Water/Earth/Fire, Primal Hunter/Instinct/Senses/Speed, Cloud Wings, DMM: Persistent Superior Magic Fang, and whatever else you can find. In combat you should be Wild Shaped into some powerful combat form (Handbook (http://community.wizards.com/forum/previous-editions-general/threads/1060931)), start by using the Circlet of Rapid Casting and a Lesser Rod of Extend to cast Kelpstrand to crowd control multiple opponents, then you and your animal companion both charge in and pounce to rip the opponents a new one.

that is interesting but smacks of more caster than melee... I will keep it in mind

I also located (savage species p17) Regeneration an be added to any character for a +2 level adjustment
which is an option under level buy back that would not use a couple feats- just have to see if buy back will be allowed

My build gives you a 70 ft. fly speed in all forms with immunity to ranged weapon attacks (Stormrage, Cloud Wings), and an AC of (25+Dex+Wis+size), and your only important ability scores are Wis and Con, everything else can be used as a dump stat. Also, a minor oversight: You don't need to spend a feat on Power Attack because you get it from Bite of the Werebear/Weretiger, so shuffle some feats down and get Frozen Wild Shape or Improved Multiattack instead.

Let's say you turn into a Greathorn Minotaur (MMIV). You'll have a speed of 40 ft. plus Earth Glide (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/monsters/elemental.htm#earthElemental) (perfect for underground), with the buffs I recommended you'll have Str 40, Dex 10, Con 28, AC 31+Wis, DR 5/-, two claws and a bite or your favorite large two-handed weapon.

Let's say you turn into a War Troll (MM3). You'll have a speed of 50 ft., Str 47, Dex 18, Con 37, AC 38+Wis, DR 5/adamantine, Regeneration 9, SR 20, scent, darkvision, low-light vision, Dazing Blow (DC 30), two claws and a bite or your favorite two-handed weapon.

It doesn't matter how much or how little spellcasting a character has. This build's primary mode of operation is to make melee attacks, and it does it better than just about any build with no spellcasting could. Plus any melee build without spellcasting would have nothing to contribute when the party isn't in combat, whereas this character will almost always have a solution to any noncombat challenge the party encounters.
