Heart of fire has the ability to trigger itself as a swift action to generate a fire shield effect. The thing that confuses me is it says

(as the spell; fire-based protection only)
And I'm not sure how to interpret that fire-based protection line. Does that mean the Chill shield that provides Fire resistance (protection FROM fire), or warm shield that deals fire damage to melee attackers (Protects WITH fire).

I'm kind of leaning towards the warm shield since a shield of hot flames seems to suit the spells 'flavor' more IMO, but giving resistance to fire seems more in line with 'fire-based protection'; so what do most people think it means?

You gain protection which is based on fire. The chill shield is based on cold. I think it is pretty clear it should be a fire shield.

Also, the spell is called Hart of Fire.
