Hey all!

I want to build the Bureaucromancer (http://www.theonion.com/article/city-councilman-unearths-magical-zoning-amulet-1782) but there's very little in the way of material along this vein(because it's silly) With the possible exception of Sacred Geometry (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/feats/general-feats/sacred-geometry).

But I was thinking more along the vein of paperwork rather than just math. I'm not opposed to homebrew or even making my own homebrew, the more absurd the better.

Do y'all have any ideas of anything from 3.5/3pp/pf/homebrew that might help this poorly developed idea along?

Thank ye! :D

It is almost required that you either dip or VMC oracle for the legalistic curse. Lore or ancestor are good mysteries to pair with it.

Bard of course has the skills, ways and means. But an abjuration wizard could set up barriers, gates, areas, what have you. A particularly uptight cleric works well too.

The Path of Numbers system from Occult Mysteries are all weirdly complicated to use, like Numerological Evocation (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/n/numerological-evocation), Numerological Resistance (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/n/numerological-resistance), Mathematical Curse (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/m/mathematical-curse) and Calculated Luck (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/c/calculated-luck).

Some things you can look at for inspiration are the Dragon Lance War of the Lance's "Master" class, which is basically a peasant/craftsman made into a viable class. (Here is the Pathfinder update of it: http://guilesworld.com/role-playing-games-stuff/dragonlance/master/)

You can also check out the ridiculously overpowered, but entertaining homebrew class, The Economist: http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/Economist_(3.5e_Class)

Given the last paragraph, it sounds like it's an intelligent Lyre of Building, in amulet form. (LaMere lost an opposed Ego check). Possibly also an Item Familiar. For LaMere himself, he's trying to use the bureaucracy to do some good in the world. So, Malconvoker?

To physically rebuild an area, you're going to want access to spells like undermaster and plant growth. In other words, druid (especially one of the urban druid ACFs from various sources like Cityscape or Dragon Magazine) seems like a shoe-in.

Cloistered Cleric of Urbanus, with the City domain, would be a start.

Cloistered Cleric of Urbanus, with the City domain, would be a start.

This is a very good place to start. Cleric is probably the best base class to build a bureaucrat - it's pretty easy to conceptualize some of their spells as navigation of celestial and infernal bureaucracies. They would definitely need an extradimensional file folder with near infinite paperwork to fill out.

If you are home brewing, a bureaucromancer would definitely get free skill focuses in forgery and decipher script. Intimidate also fits really well - getting people to do what you want while also pissing them off is what bureaucrats do best.

An intimidate bonus to interactions with those legally your underlings, a penalty to those with your superiors :smalltongue:

Honestly, if you're ok with homebrew, I'd suggest just taking the Solar Bureacracy Charmset and adapting to D&D.

It is a terrible idea in its current form, but pathfinder has the scrollmaster archetype (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/wizard/archetypes/paizo---wizard-archetypes/scrollmaster). Basically, it lets you wield scrolls as weapons and shields. The problems are that melee combat is not really what a wizard wants to be doing, and hitting someone with a scroll damages it, and a scroll as a shield damages it when you are hit. You also can't repair the scrolls, and they are easy to sunder. Maybe it would work as a dip on a more martial character?
