The wind whipped in a hollow rush through the mountain peaks, bringing with it the chill of autumn and promise of colder times ahead. Through the peaks of Catena's border mountains, this wind swirled through pines and brush, finding a small pass through the mountain that acted as a natural funnel. Swirling past a guard outpost, wyverns and their riders sheltering themselves behind thick furs and walls of oak, the wind continued to climb higher and higher. The paved road led the wind up through a small town, the people living here little more than farmers and smiths, a simple community that did what it could to provide for itself and the soldiers that kept it safe. But even from here, the wind found another corridor that wound yet higher. Well-paved steps eventually flattened out in a small plateau, whipping around a fortress with a river-fed man-made lake fed by the runoff of melting snow beside it. Here the wind finds a dead end, and rolling up and over some rocky crags, it slips out of the tunnel it had found to carry itself farther away, deeper into the heart of the winged lord's lands.

So instead, we will focus on the fortress it had passed. An older place that had until recently been abandoned, the fort was somewhat crumbled and decayed, the chapel that had once resided within completely collapsed, and the decorations and statues long worn down by wind and snow. However, that had changed when a young noble woman named Anna had purchased the deeds to the place, and then sent out riders to look for those who were down on their luck, calling them to join her in this place and perhaps make a bit of coin for themselves. While most of those who came were more fit to man things like the stables, or carpenters that had been hired by the young lady to begin reconstruction, some with a more mercenary bend to them had shown up over the course of a week or two.

Recently, some riders had returned from the nearby lands of Tolerind and Cordisu, both of them bringing word of some trouble and potential jobs, and of cours Catena, the patron nation of this company of misfits, had sent a messenger as well with another offer of their own. And so Anna had called a small meeting, wondering which avenue her small private army wanted to explore.

((Feel free to RP before the meeting itself comes up, but I'll introduce the three 1st missions you have access to quick))

Sitting at the head of the table inside of the mess hall, the chipper and well dressed noble woman claps her hands together once the last member of the merry band finally arrives, standing up and cheerfully calling out, "Welcome, welcome, one and all! My but it is nice to finally have everyone in the same room, isn't it? Now then, since I'm not sure everyone has been introduced yet, I'm sure you'll all want to say who you are and where you are from and... oh. I never realized how many elves we had here. Well more on that later, sorry about the cold weather, but we can save such introductions for later. All you need to know right now is that we have received a few job offers already!" Anna said, before gesturing to a map of Rovina laid out on the table. Three different pieces, one with Cordisu's flag, one with Tolerind's, and one with Catena's decorated the map, with a small pin pricking the location of the fortress that acted as the home base for this company. "As you can see, we actually have a few offers coming in! Each should be within our abilities to handle, nothing all too complicated yet before we get to learn how to work together."

"A merchant in Cordisu by the name of Jaq Merrilin is asking for some mercenaries to help guard his caravan on the road. While he isn't exactly open about what kind of cargo he is carrying, the reward he offers is substantial, and since his path comes through Catena he thought to offer us preference in guard duty. Getting in on Cordisu's good side might help us get our foot in the door for some of the arena events, if we wanted that."

"A priest names father Moulden in Tolerind is complaining about some armed thugs that have been terrorizing his community. He's offering a collection of his staves, tomes and medicines as well as a small bit of gold as a reward for our services, and being on the holy city's good side is always a grand idea."

"Finally, my father is offering us a job to take care of some Wandering Axe bandits who have taken to marauding through our southern communities recently. While it shouldn't be too hard to deal with them, this will likely be as difficult as Jaq's escort, and there will be an extra reward if we can manage to save the towns they are terrorizing."

"So, what do we want to do?" Anna finished, smiling cheerfully and clapping her hands before opening the decision up to a general vote.

The Fortress was and wasn't a good place for Vervain's studies. On one hand, there was a perfectly good secluded area where that he could lay waste to with elemental hell. On the other hand, that was the only area where he was sure people weren't around and some soldiers had taken it to practice. Brutes, all of them really.

That said, he probably didn't had a lot of time. Word had come, trouble was afoot on the world. That meant work

---
As Anna debriefed them, Vervain found that his mind, when he spoke it, had reached similar conclusions to everyone else. First they'd help the priest, truth be told medicine shipments weren't exactly abundant and while most everyone probably had something there was probably going to be no sharing anytime soon. Good idea to secure that help. That said, he wanted later to go help the merchant, the man apparently had contacts in the arenas! Fame and glory!

But it seemed the general consensus was to help Anna's father. Oh well, she was probably displeased at those of them who disagreed. Eh, he'll live.

----

Finally, at the battleground for the first mission itself...seemed peaceful for now. Vervain had donned his actual work apparel, with bulkier robes, that seemed tighter. Spefically because of the layer of light armor he wore underneath them. It was rather light as far as armor went, barely better than just the clothing really, but still it was more armor than most any mage wore and as such made him stand out a bit.

He scans the area. Where were the troublemakers?

Young woman's fiery red hair shifted in the gentle breeze as she glanced over at far away mountain peak. This girl was Katherine de Tolerind. She stood alone at top of main tower, silently pondering why that place so terrible.
Constant wind, cold gloomy weather...
"Princesses are dumb. This or romance novels are overrated.", she finally mumbled before directing her steps back to much more warm place. What at same time was place where everyone waited for some kind of meeting what shall started... dunno, ten minutes ago?

---
When Katya entered mess hall and cheerfully greeted everyone, Katherine realized what she was not only last one to arrive but late as well. Oh. She quickly occupied chair near strange elf in fancy garb only to start ignoring Anna's words. She could afford to not listen to all this - her smart elder sister was there as well. So Kath focused on people instead.
Huh, quite quirky fellows:
Big Sis. Who looked magnificent even in her plain brown robe. But how? Katherine didn't had even slightest idea. Perhaps it was very special magic unavailable for talentless people like Katya.
Her horned (In good way) brother who desperately tried to look stern and mighty.
Young cute girl with ears long enough to belong to bunny. So adorable!
Another weird elf. Shady too. Next!
Next was absolutely plain, featureless and ordinary... priest. Ugh, how can such people truly exist?
Dashing blue-haired mage. He got a style. Heh. Or at least was brave enough to wear drape as cloak.
Than Kath absently cast another glance at noblewoman who monologued about bandits or something like that only to notice... Oh gosh! Oh gosh! That dress...!
...
---
... when they finally arrived to some kind of desert border village, Kath found her brother, grabbed his left head horn and pulled him aside only to ask, "So why we here?".

During the meeting, Felix takes a few moments to look over the other people assembled. Of course, he first notices Sasha and Katya, inwardly sighing to himself on being reminded that someone didn't stay home as they were told. Too late for that now, though. The rest of the group seemed to be all humans and elves. So much for him not sticking out with his demonic features. Whatever.

Somehow, he wasn't surprised when Katya pulled him aside to ask what they were doing. But why does she always, always go for the horns? "If you're not going to pay attention, go back home."
He was being pretty harsh, but if it can possibly convince her to stay out of dangerous situations like this, then harsh is what he'll be.

Katya de Tolerind.

Kath released demon's head horn, hid her arms behind her back and made two steps to the right after she heard his words.

"Nuh-uh, big brother. I just wanted to check if you lend an ear to boss", she tilted her head to left side, sly smile on and tried to confuse Felix (to change unpleasant topic on much more nice one) under guise of her usual teasing, "After all, Felix, you peeked at little miss Longears for entire meeting♥. You almost ate her with your eyes, and I still not sure how she survived that. Aren't she, you know, too young for you? Sick, brother, sick! But I forgive you...", Katherine closed eyes, raising her head. Than crossed arms in front, right before a moment she extinguished smile on her face, "...not really.". Short awkward pause later, Katya opened right eye and continued, "But I will... If you will prove what you really listened to Anna and not tried to invent plan how to hit on elven girl.".
