Welcome to the ENTRY THREAD for this contest! Please be sure to give your entry a title and provide a link to your entry. And be sure note "Rookie" in your entry if this is your first official contest and you want to be considered for the Rookie Award. Thanks.
Library Lover's Contest
For your creating pleasure – a new contest! This time, you will be creating a room (or perhaps a whole building!), specifically, a library. You will create both the library and its noteworthy accoutrements. All entries must be appropriate for a generic D&D setting.
The contest begins with the posting of this thread and will continue until Noon, June 23 (Eastern US Time). Please remember, as always, to follow the general contest guidelines (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/announcement.php?f=16&a=19).
The Rules:
1.) You will be creating at library, which may be as simple as a small room or part of a room or as elaborate as an entire building set aside as a library. Or perhaps it’s something more mobile. You will describe the library with appropriate description (fluff) and whatever stats (crunch) are appropriate.
2.) You will also create at least 8 items, one from each of the following categories plus others:
1. A non-magical text
2. A magical text
3. An epic text
4. An artifact text
5. An item of any magical or non-magical make (e.g. furniture, art, useful item, etc.)
6. A guardian of some kind (e.g. creature, spirit, spell, trap, etc.)
2.a) In addition to one entry in each of the above categories, you should create at least two other items suitable for your library. These items may fit any of the above categories or be an item that does not fit any of the above categories.
3.) All items created must be thematically linked. The theme is up to you, but it must be clearly stated at the start of your entry post. Stating that all items were created by or collected by the same person is not enough of a theme; they should all relate to the same type of person, place, effect, motif, etc. Please include flavor text for how the texts/items were created and for what purpose.
4.) Items should be for D&D only, and not specific to any particular setting (e.g. Forgotten Realms or Eberron.) Try to avoid referencing non-core books if at all possible, but do what you have to do.
5.) All items will need to list the relevant details as per standard descriptions, including magical aura, CL, feats & spells required for construction and cost as appropriate for the item.
6.) Each new entry should be started on a new thread here on the Contests board, dedicated to just that set of items and the discussion of it. Put the tag [Library] in front of the title of that thread. Any thread without this tag will not be officially entered.
7.) Post on this thread to let the mods know that you have completed your Library entry. We'll try to keep a post with all the entries listed in one place for easy reference.
8.) Categories of voting and judgment will include the following:
Best Overall
Best Library & Collection of Items
Best Single Item (The single item you most would be interested in bringing into your campaign immediately; for this award, just choose ONE from someone's list to vote for.)
Funniest Overall Entry
Funniest Single Item (The single item you found most amusing; having this a separate item allows you to include a single amusing element without going for a whole funny concept.)
Roland’s Choice Award (Staff Award).
(This was inspired by my recent reorganization of my library which turned up this scrap of paper which I keep meaning to have framed:
For him that stealeth a book from this library, let it change to a serpent in his hand and rend him. Let him be struck with palsy, and all his members blasted. Let him languish in pain, crying aloud for mercy and let there be no surcease to his agony until he sink to dissolution. Let bookworms gnaw at his entrails in token of the worm that dieth not, and when at last he goeth to his final punishment, let the flames of hell consume him forever and aye.
