I'd say my favorite roguelike so far is nethack. Its extremely hard, but the dev team thinks of everything.

In fact, if anyone didn't know, that comic fwiffo linked is nethack.

I've played Rogue, Nethack and ADOM; and I can absolutely say that ADOM is my favourite. The amount of detail in the game is staggering.

Nethack, no question. I like ADOM, but the chaos corruption really annoys me, and it just lacks the flair and panache of Nethack--TDTTOE, after all.
