If one were to use the Amalgam Template (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/templates/amalgam-creature-cr-special) to combine a creature with a Golem would the resultant construct (combining anything with a construct creates a construct with this template) count as a Golem for paying gp to add HD (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/constructs/golem)?

Even better! Could one combine a Homunculus with a Golem and upgrade the resultant construct both as a Golem and as a Homunculus?

Via this template combining any creature with a Construct results in a new Construct which can be built using PFs Price by CR rules.
That in mind what other cool or powerful combinations can folk think of?

Well, first things first, I'm not sure that it counts as a Golem or a Homunculus. Neither of those is a subtype, which would ordinarily be retained. It's simply a Construct, albeit a new one. It does, however, retain their special qualities, so there's that.

That said, according to these rules (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/building-and-modifying-constructs#TOC-Construct-Modifications), you don't need a construct to be a Golem or Homunculus in order to upgrade it. You can upgrade the HD of any "standard construct" for the amount listed.

So combining anything with a Golem wouldn't create a Golem, but it would create a Construct with Golem abilities which could be upgraded as a construct (unless your DM has a rigid definition of "standard construct").

Combining something with a Homunculus would not, however, by RAW allow you to upgrade it as a Homunculus. Those are special upgrades for Homunculi, and by RAW the new Amalgam Creature is not a Homunculus. I might, however, allow it as a DM. I love the mad science angle to it. ("I have taken the remarkable durability of a Golem and combined it with the versatility and creepiness of a Homunculus! And they dared to call me mad!") But by RAW, the product is neither Golem nor Homunculus.

Was discussing this with a friend today who is much more rules savvy than I am and we basically came to the exact same conclusions.
We also figured that the Homunculus dying when the creator dies trait being carried over to the new construct meant that it was plenty weak enough to get to count as both kinds too

Glad the mad science angle appealed to someone else though! Can be a lonely time posting mad ideas with only one's own voices for company.
My next mad idea is to make a clockwork Lusca (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/bestiary/monster-listings/magical-beasts/lusca) and combine it with something humanoid so it gets hands. Should prove to be quite horrifying.
