And for the sake of argument, let's assume Persistent spell is off the table and we are going RAI rather than RAW.

Quicken is a good one. Costs 5 turning attempt a pop but the ability to get a high level spell in a pinch is nice.

Quicken is really nice, because being able to say "this spell is a swift action now" is quite useful for action economy.
Chain spell is good if you want to throw out a lot of buffs at once. Saves actions, saves spell slots, its pretty cool.
Extend is a fairly solid choice, working somewhat like persist but without needing nearly as much investment or being nearly as much of a shenanigan.

I've taken DMM: Rapid more than once, but generally, the higher level the metamagic, the moree powerful it is to cast for free. So Quicken and Twin are real good.

Yeah i figured Extend would be the most efficient and is basically a less ridiculous version of persistent.

Yeah, this.

I actually like Heighten at a certain level.

Irresistible Spell, if the DM is crazy enough to allow it without the nonRAW errata.

Way too much investment.

Quicken is like a free standard action for 4 slots. Empower is half an action for 2 slots. And you get to use higher spells. It's also usable at much lower levels.

I don't see how. It does require two feats, but both can be taken early on, and neither of them is exactly horrible. And Irresistible Spell is pretty stupidly broken. Even with the erreta, it's still to good for only +4 (or 4 turn attempts).

Way too much investment. Many types of casters generally don't need most, if not all, feat slots at all.

Which is why someone can get nothing but Persistent spell, Divine metamagic and nothing but Extra turning feats and get away with it.
