Okay, so far as character creation.

Full HP at lvl 1 (given)

34 point buy for your stat block
All stats start at 8
A one point to one stat boost ratio is in effect till 14
15 and 16 require two points each
17 and 18 each require three points
no beginning stat over 18
I’d say apply racial bonuses and penalties after you're done buying, but there won’t be any

Human lvl 1, starting age around 12-14 (don’t worry, there will soon be some time skips)

No beginning classes that would be very very odd in a small village, aka dragon fire disciple, warlock, paladin etc. Think small here. If you really want to be a class we can always ret con your class levels after the time skip. If you want to play fighter pst me, I have some house rules about it (in its favor)

Remember, you’ve lived in a small village your entire lives, arrange you skill points accordingly. Knowledge nobility is in all likelihood, not a good choice.

In order to make up for the moderately low magic and low start and restrictions and all: There will be leveling feats given every other level, that is, every odd level.
And ability score adjustment increases every three, not 4.

to do dice rolls, type [roll.]2d6+4[/roll.] only without the extra ..... and whatever dice and bonus or penalty. It looks like
[roll0]

In Character "IC" should always be in bold. To use the colors (for speech and what not) type Jim is red[/color.] again without the extra .... It looks like, [color="RED"]Jim is red

OOC (out of character) is anything not in bold.

OKAY, welp I hope this helps. Just post a ready message when your char is done and we’re ready to go. My next post will be a short history of the village, so you can begin to sketch out your (short) past.

Hmm, Nash wakes up in the morning. He does his normal morning routine of meticulously checking all the plants in his room (of which there are many).

Ok, a couple more house rules

crits do not automatically mean success, just add ten to the roll. This should mean success in all but the most extenuating circumstances.
ex: to hit in melee (+6) 1d20(20)+6 = 36
In order to confirm crits, you have to roll 1d20 plus the same bonuses from the attack that crited, +6 in this case, you have to meet or beat the AC again to do double damage, if you fail to do so, you still hit (if ur crit hits a 36 AC), but no double damage.

the same applies to natural 1s, just subtract ten from your bonusses.
ex: knowledge arcana (+5) 1d20(1)+5 = -5

reflex saves, if someone is adjacent to you and you succeed your save, you may still take the full damage to prevent all damage to that person. If you're fast enough to dodge, you're fast enough to shield someone or push them out of the way. It will come in handy when there's someone badly hurt or weak that you want to protect.

The small town of Jacob’s Crossing is known jokingly to outsiders as the last bastion of civilization. Located in the far most western part of Islar, the only peoples left further west are the ever closed Dwarven lands and to the south, the wild bands of humans who pledge allegiance to no man.

There are a few scant villages further west, but none of which can call themselves a proper town. Just over 200 people claim residence in Jacob’s Crossing proper, with probably another 150 farmers in the surrounding area who visit town regularly to trade and relax at one of two taverns the town boasts.

Currently, preparations are under way for the Festival of Blossoms and Leaves. A celebration of rejuvenation that the Spring season always brings, filled with cakes and music and dancing, the festival usually lasts one day well into the next morning. This year is particularly tense though. The past two years has seen the worst drought in current memory, not one crop was able to flourish in the farmer’s fields these past two growing seasons. With cellars running low on food, already the spring season is uncharacteristically warm, the downwash from the mountains that was expected to replenish many drying brooks and creeks has not come. Even the almost tropical eastern parts of Islar are beginning to feel the presence of the drought, in their fields and in their bellies.

This has put more than one frown on the faces of the townfolk.

But still the people put their heads down and push forward, having faith that the Goddess will see them through.

So soon after the war with Yetherach a mere decade ago, which many say behind closed doors and under their breath broke the back of once proud Islar, this drought has done nothing to lift the spirits of the people.

What’s more, across the River of the Sun, which many now simply call the Black River, the lands of Yetherach are seen to be verdant and blooming where once their lands were cold and unforgiving to farmers and their crops. Many now blame the drought on those heretics.

The black ships of Yetherach patrol that river daily nowadays, their blood-red sails raised in defiance. The Jewel of the Sun, the great city Phaerelas, now lies in ruins as the final tomb for the royal family in the far east, the great wall that surronded the city now crombling into the river. You can still see the Tower half-standing from this side of the shore. The once magnificent capital of Islar, said to make even dwarven stonemasons shed a tear at its beauty, was sacked in the war, and everyone in it murdered who could not escape quickly enough from the armies of the Cult of the Great Herald, who returned to seek their vengeance on those who exiled and persecuted them, almost to the point of genocide.

But they returned nearly a hundred years later to deal a fell blow against their very ancestors. Led by an entity so frightening, he was thought to be the dark and powerful Great Herald himself. He was simply known as the Shadowman by Islarites, rumored to be called the Dark Lord by the Yetherans. He led a force that was once thought to number in the hundreds in legion after legion, nearly 14 thousand, by estimations. Where all these troops came from it is difficult to say, but there were rumors of orcs, ogres and even giants during the war fighting under the Dark Lord’s banner.

It took everything Islar had to push the invaders back across the River of the Sun. It would not have even been possible if it were not for the timely disappearance of the Shadowman at the critical stages of the conflict. No one knows where he went or what happened, joyful at the time for his absence, now he is a nervous shadow at the edge of sight in the minds of the people.

Now Islar is held together by a bickering council of Lords and Ladies who call themselves the Order of Stewards. They barely hold on to the reigns of leadership, the only thing preventing a complete splintering and a plunge into utter chaos is the threat of invasion from the north, still thought to be a great threat. The Order resides in the city of Reaul, a military stronghold of unsurpassed worth near the Black River in the middle of the country.

one more to be coming up, intro into the here and now.

But all that is a common everyday wear on the people of Islar, most have learned to swallow the bitter bile of history’s recent happenings. There is still hope. For ten years now Yehterach has sat as a festering sore, yes, but a stagnant sore. No major conflict has arisen except for the expected border skirmishes. And the small, yet powerful island nation of Hurriae still firmly holds the sea, preventing any hopes of an oceanic invasion force from Yetherach. Strong allies during the war and after the war, The Sky Lords have espoused undying friendship to the people of Islar and seem to have made good on their word, providing much needed foodstuffs from their vast fisheries and unparalleled information from their spy network and scrying.

Things hang in a tenuous balance nowadays.

But that’s that, you have work to do today.

The day begins with Darkfalle’s Character waking up in the Silver Ale, the tavern his parent’s own. Dedric and Seriae (Character’s last name) make a formidable combo, the shrewd business man behind the counter and the enchanting lady onstage, keeping people entertained.

They run a successful business, but with their raven black hair and light colored eyes, it’s obvious that they’re outsiders. And for that their business suffers a little bit. Most Townsfolk too stubborn prefer the Bubbling Brook tavern, a local staple until Dedric and his wife moved into town. He hears his mother calling for him from the kitchen.

Nash wakes up in his small room to the familiar smell of herbs and plant life. He hears downstairs the rustling of the front door and the familiar step boom step boom of Granny Dodara and her walking staff. Obviously, she was up late last night helping someone in the town.

An orphan since his mother died giving birth to him, Nash has lived with Old Granny, who served as his midwife, since he was born. He doesn’t know much at all about his family other than that his older brother disappeared one day and when his father went to go look for him, his wife newly with child, he was found dead by a merchant caravan. The brother was never found. His mother just gave up on living after that. The pregnancy was too much for her.

Nooblar’s Character wakes up to the sharp bark of his father’s voice calling him from downstairs. “Get down here son! The horses need groomed!” His father is one of three prominent horse breeders in the area, and when Nooblar’s Character isn’t shucking hay or cleaning stalls, he’s racing his father’s horses in order to prove his family’s horses are the best. Not so much by his choice of course, more of his father’s wishes than anything.

He yawns sleepily, already trying to figure out a way to cut out on work early. Maybe head down to the Silver Ale, where he spends as many afternoons as possible, listening to Dedric and Seriae spin tales of the outside world and all the adventure that awaits out there. Maybe Darfalle’s Character would be up for some exploration today.

I can't remember what two feats your recommended for me, so for now I've only picked one (weapon finesse) what was the other one you suggested?

Aidan sits up sleepily rubbing at his eyes. He swings his legs off his bed and grabs a shirt off the floor--he rarely put his clothes away at night, unless it was a costume--and pulls it on. He goes to pull on the pants from yesterday, then realizes they aren't there, frowning he turns to yell out the door to his mother, then he remembers.

Yesterday he and Devron had been out by the old ruins, and Devron had found that stupid dagger, rusted thing that it was. Aidan was sure he would've recognized it if it were magical, so it must not be, despite Devron's claims. In any case, the two of them had, had to run to get back to town in time for dinner, Devron's old man probably would've beaten him if they hadn't. Aidan had tripped and gotten his pants pretty dirty, his mother must've washed them overnight, or was doing so now.

Aidan pulled on a pair of clean pants from his dresser and starts to head for the kitchen. Coming Mom! What's for breakfast?

Nash calls out to Granny Dodara:Granny how are you! You didn't get enough sleep last night did you? You shouldn't be doing that. He then proceeds downstairs to see his beloved Granny.

On a side note, this is a rather tragic past. That is cool though. Fun times to be had.

Devron sighs heavily as he shrugs into a shirt. Another dismal morning of tending the horses was all he had to look forward to. What made things worse was he still hurt from the lashing his father gave him the day before. Although thinking back on it, the look on that stuffy merchants face when he fell off his newly greased saddle was more then enough to make up for it. He tucks the old dagger he had found out in the wilds into his belt. He was dead certain that it was some magical device of ancient times. His friends laughed at him about it saying it was just a rusty knife, but that didn't waver him one bit.

He trudges down the stairs past his glowering father and heads out to the stables. As customary he attends his favorite horse Pheran first. The chestnut brown stallion and he had many racing victories together. Those days were gone however, as his father insisted Pheran was to old for racing anymore. As he does nearly every morning, Devron thinks about asking his father to give him the horse. But, just like every other morning the fear of what the answer might be holds his tongue. He gives Pheran a final rubdown then settles into the normal morning grind, waiting for the first opportunity to slip out from his father's watchful eye.

Sorry guys, i don't get off of work till 4:30 everydoay. Just got settled in at home.

Oh btw Darkfalle, the other feat is force of personality

Aidan

"I need your help in the kitchen son. We have cooking to do for our guests today." Seriae calls out as you tromp down the stairs. "What did you get up to yesterday? Your pants were filthy! You could smell them from down the stairs!" He laughs, musing your hair as you walk by.

The kitchen is a small but organized afair behind the bar. You can already see your father sitting by the table, leaning and cutting up some skimpy onions. "Morning son" he says, nodding and smiling.

Your mother calls out how many flatbreads she wants made up and warns you not to waste a grain. You find all of the supplies exept for the sugar, which gives your bread a nice sweet taste. As you ask your mother where it is, a sour and terse look comes over her face, There is no more." she says softly.

Nash

Granny sighs heavily as she rests herself in her favorite chair by the now cold fireplace. You stop sudenly, she looks so old just now, so old. Older than you could ever remember. And like a dark shadow in your mind, the thought comes to you that Granny may be Moving On soon. You shudder, quickly rejecting the thought.

"Oh dearie, the Swansein's girl? She's not looking well at all. The Wet Lung disease is wasting the poor thing away. If only I had more Huri'ns Bloom! Blast it all, I ran out months ago.

...

But I doubt any is blooming now, in this heat. She sighs. And I really don't have the energy to look for it. IF you see any, in the forest, bring it back here right away. But tend to your plants first. They must last the village for medical supplies... To bad Hurin's Blossom is so cursedly picky about living in the wild.

Devron

After a stern flick to the back of the head, you make your way outside. The stalls are the same, as they always are. Pheran perks up at your entrance and soon after the other twenty or so horses become animated at your arival. You waork for then next couple hours making sure all are fed and watered. Your father tells you which horses need to be put out to pasture. He tells you to watch them while he goes to 'do the books'. You know full well he means to hit the bottle, the perfect time to slip away.

You later head into the house for a quick bite after your father has gone back inside. Your mother is there, Tiesa, vapid and not quite all there as usual. She barely mutters good morning to you. You scarf down some grub and head back out to the pasture. You still have to wait for another hour until you can be sure your father will be fast asleep.

You're dying to take that dagger to Granny Dodara. Everyone knows she is a cojurer of great skill.

Finally, you feel it's safe to make your get away.

Knowing his father will be more interested in his rum then in him, Devron decides to sneak away from the house and head for Granny Dodara's. On the way out he grabs his trusty bow and arrows just in case his friends are able to escape their parents and are up for some exploration. After all, he figures to himself, who knows what other magic trinkets or treasure he could find. (move silent +6)

Aidan sighs, It's getting bad isn't it? then starts preparing the ingredients for making the bread.

After finishing his morning chores--breadmaking included--Aidan heads out to the common room to see if there's anybody new to talk to, maybe some of the merchants for the festival will have started arriving. It's always interesting to hear their stories so he can use them himself later.

Devron

It's about a ten minute jog into town from the farmhouse. You don't see anything untoward except for two seperate merchant caravans heading into town, one right after the other, no doubt filled with supplies for the festival in two days time. A couple of the gaurds glance a little perturbed at your weaponry, but none take it further than that. A couple wave at you. Most just ignore you.

On the main street you see the beginnings of the day at work, men and women opening shop and cleaning house. As you stroll in the direction of Granny Dodara's a couple of side streets later you suddenly see Master Twindelore ride out of the front door of his tailoring shop, The Wispy Needle, the sign painted in gaudy red and gold next to the door. He's a standard fixture in the town, but most outsiders find him extremely odd. Being a gnome, Master Twindelore stands head and shoulders below every man in town. He is thought to be very tall amongst his people, but that doesn't satisfy him, oh no sir. The little gnome spends his waking hours mounted on a miniature horse, no bigger than a large dog, in order to see eye to eye with those "gangly humans" around him. It's purportedly a rare trade from some dwarves he got friendly with. It's been years since anyone can remember seeing Master Twindelore off his horse save to eat or drink. Being a very well trained little horse, Snuffles does not debase his good name by leaving little presents indoors, so most of the townsfolk don't seem to mind.

Master Twindelore spots you and smiles and waves in your direction, dressed today in bright blue and cream silks. He trots over to you as you meet in the middle of the road.
"Ahh, just the strapping young lad I wanted to see! How are you m'boy! My dear young man, I am in a bit of a tizzy. You see my precious Violet has gone and disappeared! Oh woe is me! I'm offering one whole gold piece to the clever investigator who can track her down and bring her home!" Snuffles snorts. Violet is a fixture inside of The Wispy Needle, a long haired white cat said to be a gift from an ambassador of Hurriae. Despite the lazy creature lounging about all day, Master Twindelore's creations are always spotless.

Without even waiting for an answer. Snuffles prances off in the direction of Larkin Waerii, another youg man from the village, his father's a blacksmith. You shake your head. Violet is always running off about twice every week. No wonder, living with that crackpot. You chuckle to yourself under your breath.

Aidan

You poke your head into the common room, but no visitors have arived yet. It's too early in the moring, and having no guests stay the night it leaves the Silver Ale eerily quiet. You wait the next hour or so for the bread to finish baking and help prepare some skimpy meat and spring greens to be cooked for lunch today.

"Now go in the common room and practice on the lute. I'll get the bread when it's done. You most definitely need to improve your finger dexterity in order to play better. I don't think we will attract much business with the sounds of a cat getting stepped on." You mother laughs, giving you a sly wink. Your father bursts out in full laughter his torso shaking with mirth. You grumble, it's not your fault you only just started learning to play a week ago.

But you sigh and clean off your hands. You head to the back of the common room and lift the panel on the stage floor concelaing all the instruments and juggling balls and... well all sorts of things really, and pull out the lute case. You tune it easily enough, but now comes the hard part, you pluck a few strings and begin to play some simple chord progressions...

Ouch.

Sometime later with sore fingers and sorer ears, you glance out of the window and you see the familiar bow and cloak of Devron. He appears to be talking with Master Twindelore, riding Shuffles of course. Also, glancing further down the street you see some merchant gaurds, unmistakeable with those large swords and sour looks. You hesitate, merchant caravans pay well, but those patrons can get really rowdy sometimes. But knowing the Ale has lacked good business lately, you know their business would be appreciated.

Looking wistfully at the lute, Aidan puts it down and picks up a few juggling balls and and begins to head outside, not only to see what Devron is up to, but also to see whether or not he can attract some of those merchants. Just as he is about to leave, he hesitates, goes back to the storage area and picks up the more familiar flute as well, just in case.

Since you're a tiny bit behind time wise.

Nash

As you are preparing to head out of the house you find Granny sleeping comfortably in her rocking chair. You take the time to light a small fire in the hearth in order to warm up the room a bit and cover Granny with a blanket.

As you begin to pack up and get ready to head out, you notice that your bag of seeds are missing. You need those seeds as a focus for a lot of your magics and knowing how dangerous it can be to head out into the forest unprepared, you grow a little worried. Also, that Sunny has disappeared again.

Quickly putting two and two together, you begin to search the house for the little rascal. Spot:13 Search:14 Being frustrated after finding no trace of the miscreant you qiuetly whisper for Sunny. And, as you had hoped, the little green devil could not contain himself. You manage to hear a small hearty giggle from in the Amiore. You quickly approach it and open the doors.

Sunny pops out, his flowery antennae springing to life from being cramped in the small place. He's blooming now this season, unlike many other plants.

"Ehahe yioui fouinnd meithattwyiouddihehahhaeha!"He churtles, in surprisingly clear speech, or perhaps you're just finally getting used to it.

You see him happily clutching your bag of seeds and he lifts them up for you to grab. You glance out of the window and shake your head, nearly an hour of daylight wasted on this little adventure. You can't help but chuckle. Sunny waddles off and climbs into his watering dish and happily soaks up some refreshment.

Devron chuckles as he walks away from the outrageous gnome. It was still a mystery to himself and his father how the gnome had been able to train that pony so well. A horse that well trained would fetch quite a price!

His thoughts quickly shift back to his current goal as he hears Nash's greeting. He sighs inwardly to himself as he hears Nash make a request to go look for more herbs. After all, time spent looking for herbs is less time spent finding more magical trinkets! However Granny Dadora might look favorably upon him if he helped Nash gather some of his herbs.

He calls out Hey there Nash. I guess I can help out, my father let me go early today. I just happened to hear that there is alot of Hurin's Blossom out by those old ruins. Lets grab Aidan and head out there!

Suddenly a small, shrill voice buts in from behind you. "Ooohhhh no! Iiiiiii'm telling! You know no one's allowed in the ruins. Everyone knows it's cursed, you're gonna get in so much trouble." Little Mae, the youngest daughter of the Jindle family, the bakers from across the street, is eyeing all three of you with her little fists on her hips and her lower lip about a mile out. Being seven, she's just beginning to understand the power of a little girl's tears and uses it to her advantage at every opportunity.

As you begin to head out to the edge of town, Mae is pitter-pattering into her family's store and you all can't help but pick up the pace. You are crossing into main street when suddenly you hear a voice call out.

"Oi! Lads wait up!" You see Larkin Waerii, the blacksmith's son jogging towards you. "Hey fellas what are you about? Ready for the games comin' up?" he says, clearly eyeing Devron's bow. Devron pretty much thumped him last year and it's obvious that he's aching for a rematch.

You can't tell Larkin where you're going, oh by the sake of the Goddess you can't. His little brother went missing about 4 years back. Naught was found of little Jezzae save for a bit of cloak, where else? Near the ruins. Not only would you risk really hurting the feelings of one of your friends, but you'd probabaly earn a bloody nose out of the deal. Larkin is no small fry.

He pauses, looking at your gear and your expressions. A little puzzled by your reactions he says "What? You off to the forest or the river you three?" He hesitates, waiting for an answer.

OK, new house rule.

You have 48 hours to post on this thread after your last post or I take over for a bit. This means, no, I won't be an *******, but I will try to avoid making your character do anything really important that might affect things role-playing wise, or extreme plot shifts. I will mostly avoid skill checks like bluff and will absolutely avoid spellcasting. I will post once for the missing character once every 48 hours.

If the the character is currently engaged in combat, they will move up to 30' and attack or full attack without the benefits or augments of feats or magical items that mess with your standard attack (i.e power attack, rapid shot etc.)

Darkfalle, consider this post to be you last post for the purposes of this new rule.

Larkin hesitates but then laughs a bit and shakes his head. "No thanks. My Pa's got me set to be fixing the shoes on all those horses the merchants own. I'll be busy all morning, by the Goddess!" He turns to walk away from you, but then hesitates once more. "Just... be careful out there. You never know what's stalking you from the shadows..." he almost whispers. With a final shake of his head, as if waking up, he gives a quick smile and walks off.

You pass into the opposite side of the town and make your way to the edge of the Forest. It's an imposing landscape. Ancient groves stretching skyward make for a magnificent sight. Most of the land around Jacob's Crossing has long been cleared away for building materials and firewood. But no one has dared touch the northern section of woods. Perhaps because of the ruins themselves. Most people just leave the land alone. But Granny often goes herb gathering in the Forest with Nash and Devron and Aiden have snuck off exploring multiple times.

They say that there's not a single break in the trees until you reach the dwarven mountains of the E'ilexethor Range. Luckily, the ruins aren't quite that far. All of you can't help but gulp and break into a nervous sweat. It took all the courage you had before to sneak into the ruins before in broad daylight. But now, with midday approaching, you'll be lucky to reach the ruins until about an hour till dusk. Unless of course you choose to camp in the Forest, which some claim is almost as insane... but last time it went off without a hitch. So you shoulder your bags and begin to walk about 100 yards from the edge of town to the treeline.

As the party enters the Forest, it is not long before all signs of civilization are swallowed up by the massive oaks and birches. Thick underbrush and clinging vines make the going extremely tough. half movement speed The uneven terrain makes you all extremely wary of your footing. You hope to come across a game trail or some other path with which to follow. An hour later you find a small clearing where a fallen Giant Sequoia has created a small space. You all pause to get your bearings.

Nash's Heal Check (I guess? unless you're planning on providing long-term care, there's really no way to do this rule-wise. So, I'll set the DC fairly high, 20)

1d20+4=12 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1086886)

Sorry no go, Nash manages to stabalize Aidan's foot with a wrap and rub some soothing poultice on Devron's side, easing the pain.

Aidan's Search Check to find a suitable Quaterstaff DC 12

1d20+2=6 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1086894)

Aidan finds what he believes to be a stable, functional quarterstaff, but one good whack against a tree splinters the branch, exposing its rotting interior. He looks around for any others, but doesn't see any in the immediate area.

Aidan's Search Check for live wood DC 10 (easier to see straight branches in the air)

Devron gives Aidan an annoyed look. Reluctantly he pulls out his "magical" dagger and stares at it lovingly for a moment. He then turns to hand it to Aidan. Here try this, just make sure to take care of it!

OK Wood has a hardness of 5. That means that whatever damage is dealt to it, you subtract 5 from each source. Using a rusty dagger (1d4-1) means that you will have to crit at least twenty times and roll max damage with Aidan's strength to get through the 20 HP of the two inches of wood (aprox 10 HP per inch).

Well, first things first

Aidan's Climb Check DC 12 (usually 15 but hey, lotta underbrush and some thick vines, and you're lighter than a normal person, makes things easier)

1d20+0=13 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1087653)

Aidan successfully climbs the birch, getting a good 10 to 15 feet off the ground, he stands on a thicker branch below his target and pulls out the rusty knife and begins to try to wedge it in there, hoping to get some anchorage.

Your next 10 attacks, representing one minute

1d20+0=16, 1d20+0=1, 1d20+0=15, 1d20+0=11, 1d20+0=14, 1d20+0=14, 1d20+0=16, 1d20+0=19, 1d20+0=4, 1d20+0=19 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1087654)

The next minute

1d20+0=1, 1d20+0=19, 1d20+0=6, 1d20+0=4, 1d20+0=14, 1d20+0=9, 1d20+0=20, 1d20+0=3, 1d20+0=16, 1d20+0=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1087657)

Damage from your first crit

2d4-2=3 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1087685)

You get the idea.

After a couple of minutes working hard against the wood, all Aidan has managed to really acomplish is to shave some bark off the branch. While taking a moment to wipe the sweat beading on his brow Aidan notices something strange about the dagger. He...can't...quite make it out, but having rubbed some of the rust away, it looks like...like there's some script in the Old Tongue etched in along the dull blade...

We are the worst party ever. List of our horrendousness:

Can't bluff an innocent druid.
Can't bluff/intimidate a 7 year old girl.
Get lost in woods we have lived in our whole lives.
Can't find a decent quarterstaff sized stick even though we have been going out in the woods our whole lives.
Cant cut through a piece of 2 inch wood with a knife.

Now, now I have an idea of where we are but since Nash has apparently never been to the ruins he doesn't know the way. The 7 year old girl was very lucky. As for the wood, umm yay we suck. But hey more behind the magical dagger theory. Hey lets try something.

When Aidan gets back down Nash casts detect magic on the dagger seeing under the rust.

OK, just a few little reminders.

1) NO you have not been going into these woods your entire lives. No one goes into these woods regularily. You've maybe had long excursions once or twice into the Northern Forest. Any herb gathering/exploring, you've mostly stuck to the tree line.

2)It's a friggin branch. OK let's try this next time I see you. I'll give you a rusty, dull, centuries old 6 inch knife and let you try to cut a branch off a tree, we'll see how well you handle that.

3) Nash, how in the hell do you suppose you even know there are markings on the knife at all? I said Aidan sees them. Unless you want to make a spot check at - a lot, I'm ignoring your last post. In fact, here's your spot check now

DC 22 (20 base for being half exposed etchings, -2 for 10 feet away)

1d20+5=17 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1088836)

Devron stares up at Aidan in annoyance. He calls up Oy! How long does it take to chop off a branch? We need to get moving if we are going to make it to the ruins by nightfall!

Also Devron asked both other charcters if they recognized those landmarks... neither one of you responded and idk if Andrius is going to do a knowledge check with that or what.

Hahaha, I don't think he can cut it down Dev. That knife was very rusty why do you even have it? Nash finds amusing Aidan's attempt to cut the branch.

Andrius, please make a knowledge nature check for me to recognize any landmarks or a survival check since I think that is the appropriate one.

Nah, Knowledge Nature makes more sense. Survival is to keep from getting lost. You're not lost, you just have no idea where you're going.

Nash's Knowledge Nature Check (DC 15, 20 for awesomeness)

1d20+5=18 (http://invisiblecastle.com/find.py?id=1090859)

Nash, while looking on, comes to the realization that the only possible Burn Devron could be talking about would be the one two years ago, when the drought first began. Then the fire was massive and angry, it was the Goddess' own luck that brought rain to control it finally. Looking around, you come to the grim realization that the whole Forest is ready to go up like a match, much worse than two years ago.

The old burn is big though, it stretches over a hundred miles.

A creek? Heck there are dozens of creeks... uhhh there were dozens. Who knows how many have survived the drought? You may be trying to find a dry creekbed.

It's Dev's knife not mine Nash! This thing is rusty as all hell, I don't think it could cut through a piece of string, much less this stupid branch. Aidan sighs and starts to climb back down. Let's get moving, maybe I'll find something deeper in the woods.

Yeah, I know that. I meant Dev why did you have it? Nash looks at Devron for an answer with a smile on his face. He then says Anyway I think we should be able to find the ruins if we work together, I think I have a decent idea of how to get there. Nash then picks up Sunny and being to carry him.

I don't see how info about creeks is helpful to finding the ruins unless I missed that they are near a creek/river.

Aidan's grin falters. Alright, Dev, I'm sorry. Anyway maybe it isn't so useless after all... but that can wait till we get to the ruins. Always better to reveal something in a more dramatic locale. Aidan grins, attempting to put on a mysterious showman type of demeanor.

Well I'll wait till Aidan cares about the etchings to describe them. No worries, there's not a rush. Umm Zanatos, welp, you know what direction the burn is in and that they also used a creek a focal point, try to use what God gave you between the ears :smalltongue:

Yes, you notice the etchings.

You head out towards the Burn. You see nothing extraordinary for the next hour.

Survival check to keep from getting lost DC 15.

The rolls basically speak for themselves. Devron is the only one who can accurately backtrack to the clearing. Nash, if you get back to the clearing, you still remember how to get back to the village.

Devron looks around. things are begining to look a little familiar. Perhaps you are getting closer to finding the trail to the ruins after all...

Devron fails to hear Nash's question as he is completely absorbed in the markings he has just spotted on the dagger. He stops and finds a ray of light through the forest canopy to hold the dagger under. He looks at one side then the next, looking intently at the markings. He looks at his friends and says Take a look at this! There is writing on the dagger. I told you guys it was magical! What do you think it says?

In a strange twist of fate after reading this im going to have to agree with Kevin on this one. While the detect magic was a bit hasty, it really isnt that unbelievable that he would cast it. I mean he is right about how Devron swears up and down that it is magical, this is not the same case as a random cool looking kitchen utensil. There is reason (especially for devron) to think it is magical. We all wouldnt be arguing about this if kevin had said something like "Zomg writing? Well here hand it to me and we can find out it if it is really magical or not" (which is basically what he said) The idea of the dagger being magical is in everyone's mind as it is a strang myserious dagger found by some ruins with strange writing on it. And we are all 12-14 year olds with big imaginations. maybey some more conversation was needed about the writing before the detect magic thing, but if he has an ability like detect magic, im surprised he didnt use it the first time devron was like, hey hey hey this is a magical dagger. If nothing else he might use it to stop Devron from prattling on about his "magical dagger" But anyway that is my opinion on it.

Devron seeing Nash obviously doing something looks at him anxiously. After Nash stops he says What did you just do? Do you know what it says? He also looks to Aidan since he always has some strange tidbit of knowledge.

Thank you.

Nash looks at Devron, unsure if he can or should lie. Um, I used magic to see if the dagger was magic or not. I don't know what the writing says but... Nash is unsure not wanting to hurt his friend's feelings. It doesn't seem to be magic but maybe we should show it to someone who is better than me at this, Nash says very quickly so as to get it all out before Devron gets annoyed.

No worries Zanatos, i was mostly joking. It was goofing around in reference to the previous attempt to detect magic. This time around it was a little bit hasty, but certainly not out of character.

Also, since it's literally been like a freaking week:

Aidan

Aidan climbs over a fallen log to get to Devron as Nash casts his magic at the rusty relic.

"Writing? Let me see! Maybe I can understand it if it's in the Old Tongue." He reaches out and takes the dagger from Devron.

Nash and Devron both wait anxiously as Aidan stares at the dagger, his brow furrowed in cincentration.

"Hey, yes it is. I can't quite make out all of it though. ONly a couple words. All this rust and gunk is covering it." He tries to rub it out along the edge of his shirt, but all it appears to acomplish is to re-cover the exposed areas with more dirt and soil his shirt. "No use. We have to find some way to clean it, it's just one big sticky mess."
