Scrolls and increasing CL

Hello playground.

If a Wizard 5/Red Wizard 8 character decides to increase his caster level to 17 when using a Gate scroll, does he still have to make a CL check?
If a Wizard 5/Red Wizard 8 character decides to increase his caster level to 20 when using an Ethereal Jaunt scroll, does it work/increase the spell's duration to 20 rounds?

Nope. He'd autopass such a check if he had to make it but such a check is unnecessary by the rules for scroll activation.

No. The caster level of the spell contained in the scroll is set when it is created, not when it's activated. If you want to use your own caster level then you'll need a magical staff.
