I'm looking at joining a group that's already established. They have every role filled which gives me the liberty to try something new. One role that isn't filled is that of a dedicated supporter or buffer. I really like the flavour of the Wu Jen and I'd like to try and make it into a dedicated buffer but I don't even know where to begin.

Try this guide (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?246975-The-Power-of-the-Orient-Wu-Jen-Handbook). It has a lot of information about Wu Jens and building one :)

Wu Jen don't really have all that many good buffs on their spell list, so you'll probably want to expand it.
Rainbow Servant is an option, as is Mage of the Arcane Order or a level of Prestige Bard to get access to the bard list.

For arcane buffers the ultimate PrC is War Weaver, by far. It's what the class is made for.
Spellguard of Silverymoon is also worth a look for its Spellguard ability, especially if you combine it with the Magic of the Land feat.

And then there's of course Incantatrix for free metamagic on your buffs.
You can get the same effect from Spelldancer for less levels, but it's going to cost more feats than you probably want to spend unless your DM allows you to qualify with spells or items.

I took a look but there's not much there. It basically just gives you the run-down of the class. It doesn't offer any build support or guidance.

I was looking into this early. I don't see anywhere in UA where is says a level of Prestige Bard gives you access to the Bard's spell list. Can you source a page, or quote?

It's right at the top of the Prestigious Character Classes (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/classes/prestigiousCharacterClasses.htm) section.

Unique Spells

The bard, paladin, and ranger spell lists contain a number of spells that don't appear on other classes' spell lists. In general, any character who enters one of these prestige classes should gain access to spells unique to that class's spell list, at the same levels indicated for the standard class. At the game master's discretion, spells unique to that class's spell list found in other books may also be available, but on a case by case basis. The game master may require such spells to be researched or learned specifically by the character, rather than simply making them freely available.

After checking out what the guide above says about wu-jen specific spells, refer to this one (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=394.0) for more generalized tips since wizard and wu-jen share a -lot- of the basic buffing spells.

So it does. I'm an idiot. Thanks for pointing that out.

Very helpful, thanks.
