I am considering doing a half vanician half recharge magic from unearthed arcana. Basically spell levels 1-4 would be vanician. 5-9 would be considered "high magic"and would use the recharge variant to symbolize tapping into pure energy and exhausting the body. Thoughts?comments? Critiquess?

I think you might want to do it the other way around; having the higher-level spells use the recharge (http://www.dandwiki.com/wiki/UA:Recharge_Magic) mechanic would result in being able to use them a lot more than the standard slot-based spells.

I actually have the more abusive ones aso ritual spells only. Ones that are hard to find.

Well, okay, but that's not really changing anything - even the less abusive spells are, as a rule, more powerful than the lower-level spells. As written it's still going to result in a massive power spike when the wizard gets access to high-level spells, because he won't have to wait until tomorrow to cast his 5th-9th-level spells again, he just has to wait a few rounds before the cast spell comes back.

OK I hear you. Would it work though?

I once found an arcane caster simply called The Mage. they used a recharge system for their spells such that they could cast anything 2 levels under their max at will, and recharged based on rounds or minutes for the rest. They got a signature spell of their highest level they could spam, but their access by level 20 was only up to 7th level spells due to stunted access in exchange for super sorcerer spamming.

Never got to test it really but the ability to spam recharge low level magic makes more sense. Hell level 1 (and maybe some level 2) should practically be at will by the time you get over the level 10 hump since they'll not get used as severely anyways.
