just wanting to throw a straw poll out here about loot progression, my groups relatively new to D&D, on 2nd campaign and 1st homemade one, and me and the DM have been gently clashing over loot.

i'm feeling ppl are a bit slow in getting stuff beyond the starting gear, we have reached lvl5 and the cleric tank is still in starting armor so my druid/monk has pretty much caught up with her in terms of defense while still having more dmg, the only item she has is an amulet for adv on wis checks.

now neither of us have played outside the group so we both novices and i don't want to upset the DM (he's also my flatmate) but the question is, is he being a miser or am i just a lootwh**e?

That's standard if a DM is playing by the DMG treasure hordes. See https://www.reddit.com/r/dndnext/comments/2r8kci/deconstructing_5e_typical_wealth_by_level/

It picks up a lot 6+

That sounds about right for 5e. You might suggest some of the homebrew item tables (http://worldbuilderblog.me/2015/08/06/100-common-magic-weapon-properties-in-a-pdf/) people have made for minor magic items.

My players are level 7 and have found only a few magic items, (Frostbrand, a homebrew weapon and shield, Headband of Comprehend Languages). Most of this was gained last level. One player might get full plate soon, but they're all currently in starting armour. I don't use +weapons or +armour. So your game seems similar to mine so far.

Our party gained about half a dozen items in LMoP, and now at level 6 has suffered a net loss of one item. Smitty is totally fine with this.
