I fancy myself something of a classical music aficionado. Recently I ended up dancing some songs by Secret Garden and kinda fell in love with their style. Truth is that while I listen to a broad array of different classical composers, any more modern pieces in similar are something I'm unfamiliar with and I feel I'm missing out. Therefore, I'd be interested in hearing the Playground's opinions on which artists produce music you yourself find endearing or remarkable, as recommendations on artists I should look into.

EDIT: Specifically, I'm looking for melodic, varied, layered pieces with progression and phases in the music. I'm probably not familiar with too much from the late 20th and early 21st century, so ideally something from there.

Yoshimatsu Takashi's Memo Flora Concerto is one of my recent favourites (although some of his other orchestral works I find a bit hit or miss).

These might not be quite what you want, but I'll give my recommendations a shot:

John Williams (the man has more Academy Awards than any other person alive, and for good reason: his scores are just so good.)

Jeremy Soule is the composer of the Elder Scrolls game series, and Oblivion and Skyrim are particularly top notch.

Audiomachine and Full Tilt show up on my Pandora station quite a bit, and I can't help but thumb them up almost every time I hear them.

I do hope this helps.
