Hey there. I'd like to get some opinions regarding a big change I'm considering for a setting I'm making.
The idea is that there won't be spellcasters with broad access to a huge variety of spells. Instead, their choices will be quite limited. For instance, there would be no generic wizards, only necromancers, diviners, illusionists and so on - and they would only get access to that one school of magic.
There would be ways, probably setting-specific prestige classes, to add extra schools, but it would always end up with fewer caster levels than a single-school specialist.
I'd like to hear about potential pitfalls for this idea, schools or domains that would need more spells, thoughts on balance considerations and any other suggestions.
