I'm curious if there are any offense-oriented Abjuration spells, or if there are any that can be used creatively for offensive purposes.

Maw of chaos is the go-to example.

Explosive Runes... though you would need to be creative to use that in combat.

I'm a big fan of Reciprocal Gyre.

...which version of the Gyre? There were two I could find.

Explosive Rune Field is a lot of fun.

I'm a big fan of the per spell level version.

Also, in general, dispel magic is a great offensive spell. It's a solid debuff.

Arcane Turmoil, Slashing Dispel, Spelltheft, Reaving Dispel and Disjunction are all variants on dispelling with added extras. Reciprocal Gyre, Imprisonment and Banishment/Dismissal if fighting the right enemies are all offensive spells. Prismatic Wall is a BFC spell.

Explosive Rune Field is a lot of fun.Where's that spell from?

Glyph of Warding is one of my favorites, it's very versatile.

Dismissal/Banishment are often overlooked ways to weaken an otherwise deadly encounter very quickly.

Yeah, I was referring to the per spell level version in Spell Compendium.

Doesn't really work unless you have a permissive DM. Once you dispel the first one, it blows up, deals full damage to the book, and now there are no more explosive runes to dispel. Only 100% iron-clad RAW way to use a lot of these remotely at the same time is with the summon monster line of spells, as the celestial and fiendish creatures all have an Int of at least 3, which means they can read common (and thus trigger your explosive runes). Summon a swarm of fiendish hawks, give them all a rune, and then have them dive bomb their target.

You would use the area dispel version of dispel magic. Rereading that spell you would have to make sure the "book" is actually a bunch of sheets (i.e. distinct objects) for the bomb to work.

PHB II. Theres a lot of fun spells in there, but none of them got reprinted in the Spell Compendium.
