I have 4 hours to roll up a level 8 sorcerer, and she is supposed to be Storm themed. All WotC and Paizo stuff is allowed.

What are the best spells of level 1-4 you can think of that fit the theme?

Well the first ones that come to mind are (Lesser) orb of electricity, thunderhead, gust of wind, Lighting Bolt (Duh! :smalltongue:).

Well, there's no shortage of spells that fit the theme, I was curious what are some optimal ones. Orb of electricity isn't bad.

You'll probably want the Air Bloodline feat from Dragon Compendium. Or possibly Raptoran Sorcerer substitution levels from Races of the Wild.

Thanks for this!
Also, I just discovered Defenestrating Sphere, which I think is pretty neat.

Dragon lace has Dalamar's Lightning Lance which at this point is an electric upgrade to Scorching Ray.

Take the feat Spell Thematics in Player's Guide to Faerun so all of your spells appear to be some kind of storm/lightning/etc.

Be sure to pick the spells that are so good you should never be without them. Solid examples include Wings of Cover and Wings of Flurry in Races of the Dragon, Benign Transposition in Spell Compendium, and Alter Self. Note that Spell Thematics can make any spell appear to be storm-related, if appropriate. Wings of Cover appears as a storm cloud; Wings of Flurry is a brief hurricane that batters your opponents; Benign Transposition teleports two characters to make them swap positions with a flash of lightning.

Get a nice array of spells that attack each type of saving throw, it's fairly easy to judge what a given creature's poor saves may be, and you could put each creature type and its good/poor base saves (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/typesSubtypes.htm#types) on a note card. For low levels, you can use Wall of Smoke, Grease, and Color Spray to attack Fort, Reflex, and Will saves. At any level you can get a significant amount of use out of Web and Glitterdust, and Cloud of Bewilderment with Sculpt Spell or Stinking Cloud rounds out that selection. There are also quite a few more spells that are always good to pick, such as Power Word: Pain, Ray of Stupidity, Ray of Dizziness, Iron Bands, etc. Plus you should always have Command Undead on hand, but it can be on a wand or an eternal wand in MIC, or on a runestaff as described below. If you're actually casting it you can combine it with (Lesser Rod of) Chain Spell to automatically take control over a whole room full of really big skeletons and zombies.

Use the Ancestral Relic Runestaff (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?267805-Sorcerer-Handbook#4) trick if you can swing a good alignment. Make it an Elvencraft Composite Longbow in Races of the Wild, which counts as both a longbow and a quarterstaff. Put three wand chambers from Dungeonscape in it, and you're considered to be holding each wand it contains at the ready as long as you're holding the weapon. Per the Rules Compendium a wand takes the same action to activate as the spell it contains, so a Wand of Wings of Cover is an immediate action to activate. Consider including a Wand of Nerveskitter, which gives you a significant initiative advantage for a low cost, so you'll be able to throw out a crowd control before your enemies can even act.

But make sure that you have access to enough Knowledge skills to identify what creature type a given creature is. Knowing the good and poor saves of a creature type is most likely a basic question (DC 15 in the appropriate Knowledge skill).
