Summon Monster Question

I recently ran into a trip in a campaign that I am in and encountered this situation:
The Glyph of Waring contained a Summon Monster III spell that summoned 4 monster from the Summon Monster II list. I am curious as to how.
What I know for certain: it was not a Greater Glyph of Warding, Empower Spell, or a Malconvoker.

It is from the Hellspike Prison module and he definitely said it was intentional. First thing I did was drop Knowledge (Arcana) to see if I could figure out why it was summoning too many dudes, but I didn't make it.

He confirmed that it was not empower. That was my first guess.

demon mastery and infernal sorcerer heritage can give you +3 caster levels.

I'm honestly not sure what it could be, if it's not Empower or a Malconvoker ability. Increased caster level wouldn't have any effect on the number of creatures summoned.

Have you considered the possibility that your DM just made it up on the fly?

It is from Hellspike Prison, so that does not seem likely.

I suppose it could be a twinned summon monster III, but that seems unlikely. Another option is that it has some sort of metamagic feat that increases the numeric value by 1 or 2, or die size by one step. I can't think of any that would affect SMIII, but it could exist.

Well, I just skimmed through the module, and I didn't see anything about glyphs of warding. I think you may be out of luck on this one.

theres a web enhancement that powers the adventure up from a 9th level to a 12th level encounter but nothing I see in that about a glyph of warding either

That would be a good guess except I am not sure that the DM is aware of such cheese. We may find out when we fight the creator is a few sessions.

I'm going to go out on a limb here, and assume, since it was an official WotC publication, that it was an outright error that was never picked up in editing. Like Scorpion Whips and their 1d43 damage.

3rd party book, legends & lairs, path of magic has a summoner Prc, 4th level ability adds an extra creature to all summons so if that's the route the DM went, rolled max on the d3 plus 1 additional creature for the ability

Turns out she was a malconvoker. Not sure why a malconvoker is sacrificing people to the Hellspike but there she is.

found that Prc while looking for something else, didn't know if the DM used 3rd party, but was best idea I could found without being a malconvoker
