Bound by the bodies and souls of several once-living beings compiled into one, soulstitched are a sentient artificially created race with a powerful and alluring presence. Strongly inclined towards freedom and non-conformity, many soulstitched harbor disdain for living creatures, while others find peace in a live of adventure and excitement.
All Shapes and Sizes
Soulstitched are constructs formed from the bodies of four to six individuals that are typically built to take the best physical attributes from all their parts. Originally used as servants, soulstitched are often created with beauty in mind and appear as well-formed humans with stitches and seams running across their bodies. These ornamental soulstitched sometimes even have stitching in elaborate designs or patches of differently colored hair and skin in patterns that are pleasing to the eye. But soulstitched created by less-experienced hands are often more malformed or disproportionate, and soulstitched that have lived long lives often modify their bodies with new parts that go against their creator's intent. Regardless, no two soulstitched look alike and they range from the size of children to large adults.
Soulstitched as a whole follow no uniform body type, with their figures varying from slightly oversized or undersized appendages or patches of various skin colors, to different tinted eyes, and even hair of varying hues. The only things concrete are their creation is a sense of gender among the race. While the soulstitched are technically sexless, they do have clearly defined gender but are incapable of mating and often have no urge to do so.
An Amalgam of Souls
The most unique trait about the soulstitched is their creation process that merges the fractured psyche of several individuals. This process grants the soulstitched the ability to replicate some skills that knew in life. Merging the best aspects of several minds into one gives the soulstitched a powerful and alluring presence.
Place in the World
Soulstitched can be easily inserted into most campaigns. They might have been created as servants to powerful nobles or mages and rebelled for their freedom. Or perhaps they were the result of arcane resurrection magic gone strangely right and the process has become widespread. Or maybe the soulstitched's penchant for sorcery led to their use as arcane artillery which backed up other constructs such as the warforged. Soulstitched are generally rare and operate in the background of society, rarely forming large groups on their own.
Soulstitched Traits
As a soulstitched, you have the following racial traits.
Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2.
Age. Soulstitched are artificially created as mature adults. The magic that holds soulstitched together slowly drains away over time, allowing soulstitched to exist up to 50 years.
Alignment. Many soulstitched lean towards freedom and non-conformity but soulstitched can be of any alignment.
Size. Soulstitched vary greatly in size and shape. Choose either Small or Medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 25 feet.
Living Construct. Even though you were constructed, you are a living creature. You are immune to disease. You do not need to eat or breathe, but you can ingest food and drink if you wish. Instead of sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state and are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal.
Muscle Memory. You gain proficiency in one skill of choice.
Unravel. You can cause one of your hands to unravel from your arm as an action. While unraveled, your severed hand functions as the unseen servant spell (except visible) and you have disadvantage on any ability checks that require the use of both hands. When the spell ends, your hand returns and reattaches to your arm. If your hand is destroyed, you can replace it with a hand comparable to your size during a short rest.
Language. You can speak, read, and write Common.
Subrace. While not actually subraces, soulstitched are created differently based upon the race that makes up their parts. Myriads of subraces exist among the soulstitched but there are five that are most commonly constructed: Elfin, Exhume, Quarterling, Scarfskin, and Unearthed.
Elfin
Elfin soulstitched are created mostly using the body parts of elves and share the slender builds and pointed ears of their predecessors.
Ability score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.
Rousing Spirit. You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed.
Exhume
Exhume are the most commonly type of soulstitched, created primarily from the body parts of humans. Just like mankind, these soulstitched embody variety and carry on the diverse skills that humans are known for.
Ability Score Increase. One ability of choice (other than Charisma) increases by 1.
Anamnesis. You gain proficiency in one additional skill of choice.
