I was at Barnes & Noble earlier today, and I was flipping through the SCAG, and I noticed that 18th level is a dead level for them. Any ideas as to why?

WotC is cutting corners with staffing proofreaders in order to save a buck? It had to be left out by accident, I doubt they'd just neglect to fill in their own Fighter archetype template.

I don't have the book yet, so this may be incorrect, but to my understanding they get a boost or extra to the action surge ability at 17th level. I've seen others speculating that they may have just moved the feature to 17th to better coincide with the extra use of action surge.

They do get better action surge at 17th. . . But I don't know if that's worth omitting an entire class feature :P

I mean Champion gets Survivor (HP regen), Battlemaster gets Improved Combat Superiority (d12), and the Eldritch Knight gets Improved War Magic.

It is literally a dead level for the Purple Dragon Knight unless I missed something.

Mystery solved: https://twitter.com/jeremyecrawford/status/666688449659863040

"The Purple Dragon Knight's Inspiring Surge should improve at 18th level, not 17th level as stated in the text."

And, I mean, two out of three other fighters get an improvement to an existing feature at that point, so it's not that odd.
