Part of a sort of ongoing project to give dragon nice things for the player character mind set, while still playing the Monster Manual dragons as they are with the rules of the game. One of my ideas for this drew to the dragon prestige classes from Draconomicon, a great idea and some really flavorful concepts, but they're all rather... lacking... And worse, they're all essentially Epic classes as they're intended. I wanted to tweak things to allow both younger dragons to qualify for these classes, and also to make them... functional and flavorful? I'll be starting with the first (and, for the moment, only) class I tweaked, the Warden of Bahamut. Retweaked to use Bahamut's true/dragon name (at least according to Forgotten Realms)! Over all, I was trying to think of a way to make a class that gave excellent paladin flavor to dragons, yet didn't sacrifice advancing their symbolic draconic capabilities (save DCs for breath weapon, frightful presence, skill points) for it. So sort of treating a base class almost like a prestige class for dragons.

Aura of Good (Ex)
The power of a Warder of Xymor's Aura of Good (see detect good or evil) is equal to his dragon racial hit dice (including his levels of Warder of Xymor, see the Dragon Advancement ability). In addition, the dragon's natural weapons become good-aligned, allowing them to pierce Damage Reduction/ good.

Dragon Advancement
Each level of Warder of Xymor counts as a Dragon Racial Hit Dice for abilities and feats that are affected by the number of Dragon hit Dice the Dragon may have.

Spellcasting
From 2nd level on, when a new Warder level is gained, the dragon gains new spells per day as if it had also gained a level in a spellcasting class it belonged to before it added the prestige class. It does not, however, gain any other benefit a character of that class would have gained (an improved chance of turning or rebuking undead, wild shape, familiar, and so on). This essentially means that the dragon adds the level of Warder to his level of whatever spellcasting class the dragon has, then determine spells per day and caster level accordingly.

If the dragon had more than one spellcasting class before becoming a Warder, the dragon must decide to which class it adds each level of Warder for the purpose of determing spells per day.

Divine Grace (Su)
At 2nd level, a Warder of Xymor gains a bonus equal to dragon's Charisma bonus (if any) on all saving throws.

Platinum Scaled (Su)
The platinum scales of Xymor himself function as the Warder's badge of office, signifying it as a champion of good dragons to its allies, and a bane to the followers of Tiamat to its foes. Starting at second level, the dragon's scales start to take on a platinum sheen that grows more noticeable with every level of Warder of Xymor it takes (the scales never gain enough of a sheen to grow completely platinum, and each dragon still noticeably possesses the same colored scales of its kind). This distinct appearance grants the dragon a circumstance bonus to all Charisma related skill checks equal to its Warder of Xymor level against dragons and dragon-related creatures when they are on full display.

Furthermore, the dragon's scales further harden, making it more resistant to non-magical attacks. The dragon increases its Damage Reduction/ Magic (either from its racial hit dice or Awaken Damage Reduction feat) by 2, and increases this damage reduction by 2 for every other level (4, 6, 8, and 10). Additionally, at level 10, the Dragon's scales harden to all but the most evil of attacks, transforming his damage reduction from Damage Reduction: Magic, to Damage Reduction: Magic and Evil (or if the Dragon has 21 racial hit dice, or has a challenge rating of 21 or higher as an NPC, converts to Damage Reduction: Epic and Evil), requiring a magical, evil attack to overcome the creature's Damage Reduction.

Aura of Courage (Ex)
At third level, a Warder becomes immune to fear effects. In addition, the dragon's frightful presence ability alters so that it inspires allies as well as striking terror into enemies. Allies within the radius of the dragon's aura are unaffected by the dragon's frightful presence and receive a morale bonus on their saving throws against fear equal to the Warder's Charisma modifier. Allies within the aura cannot be panicked by an evil dragon's frightful presence, regardless of their Hit Dice.

Enemies within the aura are affected normally by the dragon's frightful presence. If the Dragon does not have a frightful presence, it is still immune to fear effects, but does not give the morale bonus verses fear effects until it gains the ability.

Good Domain
At 3rd level, a Warder of Xymor gains the Good Domain as a bonus Domain and adds the spells from the good domain as spells known (if applicable). If the dragon already has the Good Domain he may choose another Domain, so long as it is granted by Xymor (Bahamut)).

Purify Breath
At 4th level, the Warder of Xymor gains the Purify Breath metabreath feat (see below) as a bonus feat, and may apply the Purify Breath metabreath to its breath weapon without increasing the breath weapon's recharge time. Also, in addition to its Purified Breath dealing increased damage to evil outsiders, a Warder of Xymor's purified breath deals increased damage against evil dragons (and undead dragons) in the same manner.

Sacred Shield (Su)
At 5th level, a Warder gains the ability to surround itself with a protective aura that lasts ten minutes per Charisma modifier bonus (minimum ten minutes) and protects the dragon's body and equipment from attacks. The shield absorbs damage equal to the Dragon's Racial Hit Dice (including his levels from Warder of Xymor, see Dragon Advancement) times his Charisma modifier (So for example, a Wyrmling Gold Dragon with five levels of Warder of Xymor, and Charisma 20, would create a damage shield worth 65 points of damage). Once the shield absorbs that much damage, it collapses, and any remaining damage is marked against the dragon's hit points. The damage can be from any source - weapons, spells, or any energy type, and so on. Damage the dragon would not take anyway (fire damage against a gold dragon, for example, or weapon damage blocked by the dragon's damage reduction) does not count against the damage absorbed by the shield. The dragon can use this ability three times per day at level five.

Purify Spell
At 6th level, the Warder of Xymor gains the Purify Spell metamagic feat (Book of Exalted Deeds, page 44) as a bonus feat, and may apply the Purify Spell metamagic to its spells without increasing the spell's level or increasing its casting time (if the dragon was a spontaneous caster). Also, in addition to its Purified spells dealing increased damage to evil outsiders, a Warder of Xymor's purified spells deal increased damage against evil dragons (and undead dragons) in the same manner.

Protection Domain
At 7th level, a Warder of Xymor gains the Protection Domain as a bonus Domain and adds the spells from the Protection domain as spells known (if applicable). The dragon treats his spellcaster level as his cleric level for the purposes of the domain's granted power. If the dragon already has the Protection Domain he may choose another Domain, so long as it is granted by Xymor (Bahamut)).

Purity of Purpose
At 8th level, a Warder of Xymor becomes better adept at channeling celestial energy into its breath weapon or spells. When the dragon takes advantage of either his Purify Breath, or Purify Spell metabreath/metamagic, neutral creatures are now immune to its effects as well, and damage against evil outsider and dragons improves by two dice sizes, rather than one (a d6 becomes a d10, a d8 becomes a d12, and so on). A Warder may choose to use his Enhanced Purified Breath or Spell, or the regular Purify effects.

Sacred Vigor (Su)
At 9th level, the Warder of Xymor gains fast healing equal to its Constitution modifier.

Area Sacred Shield (Su)
At 10th level, a Warder of Xymor can extend its sacred shield to protect an area with a radius of 5 x Charisma modifier (the Dragon can choose to make its Sacred Shield as small or as large as he desires, up to this limit). The dragon can place the barrier anywhere that it can see within 400 + 40 per dragon hit dice feet, and can choose to make it mobile with respect to an unattended object or willing creature (including the dragon itself). The shield blocks incoming attacks and line of effect for spells or other special abilities, but creatures inside the shield can still attack out through the shield. The shield benefits from any special abilities that the Warder of Xymor has that would reduce or negate damage or effects (such as damage reduction, spell resistance, elemental immunities or resistances, etc), but does not gain the dragon's vulnerabilities. The shield automatically fails all reflex saves to avoid damage from spells or special attacks, however any damaging spells that allow a Fortitude save to reduce damage (such as disintegrate) allow the barrier to make the saving throw, using the Warder's saving throw bonus.

The Ptarian Code
An ancient code of dragons with a strong emphasis on honor and teachings of Xymor, lord of all good dragons. Knights are expected to be pure of heart and deed, and to aid each other and the "small folk" that live throughout the land. They must seek out and try to convert the forces of evil, using violence only as a last resort. They pay homage to the Balancer (Lendys), Her Mercy (Tamara), and the Justicemaker (Xymor).

Warders of Xymor who break a tenant of the code won't fall automatically (unless they do something dramatically against it, such as purposefully kill an innocent member of the Lesser Races), and are fully expected to break a lower tenant if need be to uphold the highest tenant of the code. A Warder of Xymor who falls loses all class features gained from this Prestige Class except for the Dragon Advancement ability, but retains his levels as well as the hit points, skill points, and save bonuses from levels in this class. He can regain his class abilities if he honestly seeks to redeem his transgression, and find another member of the Warders of Xymor capable of casting the Atonement spell.

The Code:

Justice and Good above all.
Honor and Fealty to the King.
Honor and Respect to Righteous Innocence.
Honor and Duty to the Balancer, Her Mercy, and to the Justicemaker.
Honor and Protection to the Lesser Races.
Honor and Correction to the Enemies of Justice and Good.
Honor and Forbearance for Oneself.

Feats

Awaken Damage Reduction [Monstrous]
Prerequisites: Con 15, Dragon Type.
Benefit: You gain Damage Reduction/ Magic, equal to your Constitution Modifier (to a maximum of 2 or your dragon hit dice, whichever is higher). If your Dragon Hit Dice (Or Challenge Rating, if an NPC) is 21 or higher, you instead gain Damage Reduction/ Epic.
Special: If your Constitution modifier changes after taking this feat, your Damage Reduction changes to reflect its new value immediately. If have both this feat and you have (or later gain) Damage Reduction/ Magic as a Racial Ability, your Damage Reduction improves to your Constitution Modifier, or your racial damage reduction +2, whichever is higher (convert whichever is higher to Damage Reduction/ Epic at Hit Dice or Challenge Ratings 21+).

You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you take this feat, your Damage Reduction improves by 2.

Divine Conversion [Monstrous]
Prerequisites: Wis 15, True Dragon, Must have racial ability to cast sorcerer spells and have at least one level in a divine spellcasting class.
Benefit: You lose any effective sorcerer level you might have possessed. Instead, your effective divine spellcasting level increases by the number of sorcerer levels you sacrificed, allowing you to cast divine spells much more effectively. These effective levels apply only to the dragon's spellcasting, not to other class abilities (such as turning undead or wild shape).

Purify Breath [Metabreath]
You can charge your breath weapons with celestial energy that leaves good creatures unharmed.
Prerequisites: Any good alignment, breath weapon.
Benefit: Evil creatures affected by your breath weapon increase the save DC against your breath weapon by +1. Furthermore, if your breath weapon deals damage, neutral creatures take half damage, or one-quarter damage with a successful saving throw (if allowed), while good creatures take no damage at all. Evil outsiders affected by the breath take extra damage: The breath weapon's damage is increased by one die type (each 1d6 becomes 1d8, each 1d8 becomes 2d6, and so on, using the same progression as weapons increasing in size).

When you use this feat, add +1 to the number of rounds you must wait before using your breath weapon again.

Special: If you possess a non-damaging breath weapon type (for example, a gold dragon's strength damaging gas breath weapon), half its effect (or duration, as appropriate) against neutral creatures, and good creatures are not affected by the breath weapon at all. Evil outsiders do not take any extra effect from a non-damaging Purified Breath weapon.
