Requirements

To qualify to become a thaumaturgist, a character must fulfill all the following criteria.

Feats: Spell Focus (conjuration).

Spells: Able to cast lesser planar ally.

Planar Ally, Lesser

Conjuration (Calling) [see text]

Level:
Clr 4

I have seen people telling wizards to become a thaumaturgist in builds, but I am curious how this could be with the pre-req being a cleric only spell. help?? is there some errata that fixes this or is it an, "Ask the DM" thing?

No errata, but Arcane Disciple and the Summoner domain exist.

Edit: Not that I'd use it anyway. I like Thaumaturgist, but it's more exciting when you don't have actual Contingency on your spell list.

malconvoker also gets you lesser planar ally

Wyrm Wizard would also work, IIRC.

It works and requires Wyrm Wizard 6.

Thank you, and darn! Or as bad cop would say, "DARN DARN DARN DARNY DARN DARN!"

Core only wont allow for this.

Yes, in Core, Thaumaturgist is only accessible to Clerics. (Well, unless you count Lammasu and such, but most people don't.)

Actually no... Malconvoker adds planar binding to your spellbook, not planar ally. Sadly...

Why? The relevant class feature is Spell Research as far as I can see, and that starts at 2nd level. Were you looking at Draconic Discovery?

That's the "and such."

Independent research also works.

Hathran1 lets you learn planar ally and planar binding spell series.

Yeah, as mentioned, Planar Ally is only a couple of spell lists (Cleric, Apostle of Peace), and only a couple of domains (Summoner, Dragon Below).

The Hathran PrC will also do it, as will the Nightbringer Initiate feat (this will be tough for a Wizard to access, though). Both are pretty campaign specific. Hathran is also broken-good, so the DM may be wary of it.

This is a great resource of how to expand a Wizards spell list (most have already been mentioned, but probably worth a look anyway): Ways to Expand a Spell List (https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?646021)

Oops, missed this.

Discussing the Researching Original Spells rules (DMG p.198) with the DM would probably be your best option.

Expanded Spellbook: When you reach 2nd level, you can add one spell of your chosen school to your spellbook. The spell can be of any level that you can cast, and it is in addition to the normal spells gained when increasing your level.
