Does anyone know if the Detect Magic spell can be used to detect if current weather conditions have been altered by a spell such as Control Weather? Does the magical aura of an altered weather effect extend across the entire weather pattern? Or is it only detectable near where the spell was cast?

By RAW it is a spell effect that lasts 4d12 hours in a 2-mile radius circle around the caster (4-mile radius for druids.) Detect Magic used in the area any time during that window will pick it up.

Mind you, it will ony tell the caster that everything in range has a strong transmutation aura. Unless you're within 60' of the edge, then you'll see the edge of the spell's aura. Otherwise it's like casting Detect Magic inside of a Fog Cloud, everything you can see radiates weak conjuration there.

20 + spell level Identify a spell that’s already in place and in effect. You must be able to see or detect the effects of the spell. No action required. No retry.

Detect Magic and Arcane Sight do allow you to detect specific magical effects, you just need to make a somewhat difficult spellcraft check.
But yes, the entire area radiates magic.
