Hello guys. So I'm designing a titanic boss that has my party of 5 split up all handling a different part of the boss solo. My question is. Should I give each section of the boss hp or should I just give the boss massive hp and have all sections share that hp pool.

I was thinking of giving each part its own little gimmick like one exerting a anti magic field. And things like that.

Separate pools sounds more appropriate in this case.

Here is a nice related source.

Seperate HP pools are good-- that way you feel like you're making progress when you destroy a leg or something. You could also borrow a page from the card game Sentinels of the Multiverse-- one of the villain cards has enormous health, but every time you destroy one of her minions (which are fluffed as extensions of her being) the damage basically gets subtracted from her total HP as well. So each part has a hit point pool, and the boss as a whole has HP, but destroying a subsection also damages the big boss significantly.
