It's entirely possible the next strip will be called "Free Cake"... or some other play on Cake... "Have Your Cake and Eat it Too"... etc. The "next phase" comment validates the idea that the Creed priests were taken down for a reason to be revealed later.

But if Roy had kept the ring, he could have just jumped directly (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1004.html) to the balcony. Sure, he could be just trying to hit the vampire when he threw the spear, but he wouldn't have to use it to climb to the balcony.

Belkar is also Belkar, I don't think he saw much need to let Roy's corpse keep his ring of jumping for months if he could do other things with it instead. In fact after he won that bet he would have asked a still living Roy for his ring back. There's no more fun to be had for Belkar by Roy having that ring.

In fact, i don't think any of the main characters would have let Roy keep something he borrowed from them for a single use when he's dead anyway. They carry the object because they use it, they'd like to do that some more.

I also figure Roy could have easily made it to the balcony during this last fight without borrowing someones spear if he still had the thing.
