After the long and tedious process of installing and properly setting up the software and hardware, that you had preordered months back and had been patiently (or not) waiting to play, you start up the game launcher which prompts you for a username and password before asking you to don your VR Helmet.

When the login process is complete, the HUD throws up a message asking you to please lie down or sit in a position that should be comfortable for extended game play. Once you've done this and mentally hit the next button, which brings you to the next message asking you to be still while the hardware calibrates itself. While your sitting motionless for a few moments, you feel a tingling sensation through out your whole body and another window pops up reassuring you that this is normal and that the system is syncing up with your body's nervous system for total immersion experience.

When the set up is complete the world around you seems breakdown and fall apart and is reconstructed leaving you all in a green meadow. There you can see other new players spawn in. Clearly the area was a starting area and a quick look around and you see can spot the usernames of your friends. It would appear you all logged on around the same time.

This is Steel from the pad. Playing as Matt Hunter, seasoned role player initiated into 'high tech' gaming, and his avatar Revenant Cairnmaker

Before investing time and money in the gear needed for the Game, Matt's experience with video games is summed up from the brief times he played with friends while waiting for the party to gather for tabletop rpgs and the drive to the larp events in local parks. Luckily, some friends and dedicated research helped to get him up to speed so that he was prepared to save money from his care-taking job and know what to do once release day came.

Once he brought his prize home after helping his comrades barrel through the consumer horde, he immediately went to work setting up the gear and reading to find what's the build of the game like now it's public. As he scoured the manuals, he wondered if the Game was worth its price and the lengthy install process. With trepidation, he donned the helmet to begin his first journey into the realm of high-tier 'master' gaming.

Once the helmet loaded Matt in to the game, he was immediately in awe and had a grand first impression of the game just from the graphics of the interface and VR starting environment. He even thought "Why didn't I get into this sooner." as his Golett avatar loaded in with the Hexblade starting class and equipment he selected in character creation.

In the shadows of a bush, Albert watched quietly-or, well, Squint did. Truth was, Albert was still having trouble with controlling the little ekans properly, the serpentine mon lacking any form of familiar anatomy, swaying with each movement. That was going to take a lot of getting used to. However, he had managed to work up the courage to head out for this. A new game, a new way to meet people. No one would know it was him, no one would see him, but he could...he could talk to them here. God, he had nearly lost his nerve so many times the day before, in the store. So many eyes, so many faces sneering, judging...but he didn't have to deal with that. He could just learn the game, he could later try and set up some gold farmers, and that would keep him from starving. He could enjoy this.

In game, near where the others came in, a darker than normal ekans slowly pushed itself out of the brush, slowly weaving its head back and forth, one eye apparently always shut. Humming lightly, the shadows dance around the ekans as Squint slithers into the light for the first time.
