Uldra by Blanca Martinez and Joe Sparrow. (http://dungeonsanddrawings.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/uldra.html)

Born of the Tundra

A race of fey that call the tundra home, the uldras have a deep affinity with the wildlife that dwells in the wilderness areas, and see themselves as the caretakers of the wild areas. They have little hesitation in defending the wildlife of their homes, and this often leads to conflict with other races.

Charged with emotion, the uldras are emotional free spirited, helped in no small part to how well adapted they are to the conditions of their home. In conversation, they can be stoic one moment then explode in another, making them difficult to deal with.

An uldra has long limbs in comparison to its body, and have long and thin toenails and walk on the balls of their feet or their toes. With large ears and small mouths, chin and noses, uldra have an expressive look, which extenuates their wild mood swings. The eyes, adapted to the long nights of winter on the tundra, are large and can be any colour, often two or more hues, and glow with a soft light in the dark.

Free spirited, the uldra feel uneasy in the presence of civilization, and though they prefer to avoid conflict on the whole, there are many stories of them staging midnight raids on farms and stealing livestock and pets, then releasing them into the wild. They also have a habit of annoying travellers and those that were bred in the city. Some uldras take a darker path – taking up arms and waging guerrilla war against settlements that they see encroaching on the tundra and nature.

Uldras dwell in caves, hollow trees or icy glacial tunnels, and live in small family groups. Conflicts with dwarves are not unknown – uldra do not take kindly to the mining of the land and in their eyes, desecration of land for riches. In the eyes of many of dwarves, uldra have a reputation as a sinister and evil race, and not just with dwarves.

The homecoming is a special event for a number of uldras, as a family group has an uncontrollable urge to wander, sometimes even leaving the cold regions for temperate or even tropical regions.
