So I was listening to Wishmaster, then decided to look up the lyrics.

After I looked up the lyrics (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Nightwish/Wishmaster.html)... I could have sworn they were singing about Dragonlance.

Sorry if this has been brought up before.

Oh, and I always thought these (http://youtube.com/watch?v=gg5_mlQOsUQ) were the lyrics :smallwink:

Bwhahahaha! Funniest thing so far today (though it's still morning yet)

Setra: It's entirely possible that they are singing about Dragonlance. After all, they base a lot of their music on fantasy themes. I mean, just look at Elvenpath (http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/Nightwish/Elvenpath.html). It wouldn't surprise me if one of them had played it

It has quite a few obvious references to it(shalafi), but it's not entirely about Dragonlance. Grey Havens are from LotR for instance, so I think they just went for fantasy references in general.

Well, they openly admit that that song is about LotR and Dragonlance. If I remembered the URL, I would show you the page on their official site about their inspirations. Of course, it probably got lost in the post-Tarja redesign...

Tuomas Holopainen is also a huge fan of Walt Disney, hence Fantasmic.

Anyone heard "The Soulforged" by Blind Guardian? Now I haven't read Dragonlance, but it says that the song is about Raistlin.

Lo, and behold, go listen to it. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDj9cJBOJMw&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Famen%2Ewikidot%2Ecom%2Fforum%2Ft %2D9092)

Those lyrics look far more LOTR-ish to me than Dragonlance. Then again, I've never played Dragonlance, so I'm probably not a good judge.

And misheard lyirics vids are fun. I would post the ones for Pantera's "F***ing Hostile" and Trivium's "Pull Harder On The Strings Of Your Martyr", but they are definately not PG-13.

"Master, Aprentice" combined "shalafi" with the rest makes this song very very much about Raistlin and Dalamar the Dark. Though if you haven't read the Dragonlance books it would be hard to pick up.

The song itself most heavily references the Legends Trilogy (Time of the Twins, Test of the Twins, War of the Twins). The Master mentioned is most definitely Raistlin, the Apprentice is Dalamar, the Warrior is Caramon, and the Disciple is Lady Crysania. The later references to Silvara and Starbreeze concern Silvara, a silver dragon who falls in love with Gilthanas, and elf prince, and Starbreeze is Alhana Starbreeze, an elf princess who falls in love with a human knight, then after he dies tries to reunite the elven peoples. The Inn of the Last Home is the place where the original characters from the Chronicles Trilogy meet, as well as being the center of many of the short stories. Sla Mori, if memory serves, as the tomb where the Qualanesti buried thier first king, which the heroes visit in Dragons of Autumn Twilight.

Ok, yes I did that all off the top of my head. I admit it, I'm a DL addict. :P

^ ^ ^ Wow, good memory, Foeofthelance. :smalltongue:

I dunno if I'd call myself a fanatic, but DragonLance will always hold a special place in my heart as being the series that got me into fantasy in general (that and Redwall when I was a wee bit younger). That said, I didn't notice all the DL references in Wishmaster until I saw it mentioned on the DragonLance movie website and went to go look up the lyrics. Then again, I tend not to pay much attention to lyrics unless they're extremely easy to pick up (which, for me, Tarja's vocals are not due to their operatic nature) or I read the lyrics booklet, but I don't own a physical copy of the album Wishmaster.

Yea, they're definitely about Dragonlance.. Inn Of The Last Home is what really tipped me off, before I read the lyrics themselves... incidently.. I've seen them play live twice... awesome band ...I really hope Dark Passion Play will be as good with the new singer and all
