What
Emergency Exit and Parallel Dementia are the one webcomic update that I look forward to the most right now. They've been doing a crossover with Monday through Friday updates since the end of last year (so it's now over five months long) and it'll be ending this month. Emergency Exit by NJ Huff is a goofy webcomic about some roommates that has successfully developed a semi-serious plot while the characters themselves continue to be silly, much like College Roomies from Hell!!! (http://www.crfh.net/d/19990101.html) by Maritza Camos (except that CRFH!!! is now completely emo and EE has only gone maybe halfway in that direction). Parallel Dementia by Ben "834n" Fleuter is a somber webcomic about a world being attacked around the edges by creatures of nightmare.

Pluses
I imagine that a crossover between two such different webcomics could only be either crappy or awesome; this one is totally awesome. EE and PD were good webcomics before, and the art and the story of the crossover has become better than either comic ever was by itself.

At this point there's a lot of serious action (more like PD) sprinkled with silly quips (more like EE). Also, I have to consciously think about it now to notice which one drew the page, instead of it forcing its way into my awareness; I think that both creators have learned new techniques that they will be able to take back to their separate comics when the crossover ends.

Cautions
EE has only had some on-panel wounding and an off-panel disfigurement that I can recall, whereas PD has had quite a few in-panel dismemberments (albeit obviously drawn, not photorealistic). Also, PD isn't even remotely a humor comic, if that's what you're looking for. I only remember there being one joke in PD before the crossover; it was made by a demon and no one laughed.

EE is still rather silly even when it's emo -- sort of reminiscent of Four Weddings and a Funeral in that respect -- so if you're in the mood for serious drama, look elsewhere. Once you reach the crossover, the mix of goofy characters in a serious world is a very nice balance; however, if you're a completist like me then you have a rather large set of archives (mostly on the EE side) to get through before that.

Note
NJ's other comic is Undead Friend (http://www.undeadfriend.com/d/20050801.html); she's also a collaborator on The Chronicles of Avernyght (http://www.avernyght.com/d/20061201.html). 834n is a collaborator on Deep (http://deep.comicgenesis.com/d/20060320.html). They're both collaborators on SuperFreaks (http://superfreaks.comicgenesis.com/d/20070105.html) with Matt "Net" Summers, who AFAIK is the only collaborator that NJ and 834n have in common. Net also writes Tales of the Traveling Gnome (http://ttg.comicgenesis.com/1-000.html), Knights of Vesteria (http://www.kovcomic.com/d/20060911.html) and Tales of Pylea (http://talesofpylea.comicgenesis.com/d/20040919.html) and is affiliated with The Chronicles of Avernyght. EE had an earlier, smaller crossover with Beyond Reality (http://orion.comicgenesis.com/d/20031014.html) by Orion Gates; NJ and Orion are also characters in PD.
