Xbox 360 backwards compatibility

So, my 360 used to play Xbox games, but now it doesn't. Does anyone have any idea how I could fix this? I looked it up, and apparently it has something to do with getting a new hard drive, but I couldn't find anything about actually getting it to work again.

Does it not work with games that used to work? Because I know not all xbox games could be played on 360

Specifically, I'm trying to play Knights of the Old Republic, which I have played before on this Xbox.

KOTOR should be fine. I played it on 360 earlier this year.

Yeah I'm pretty sure KOTOR and Jade Empire are backwards compatible. I'd check your disc, it might be damaged.

If all else fails there are a number of used copies cheap on Amazon. (Not so much the new ones though.)
