Looking for opinions, citations, FAQ links, etc regarding the interaction of the following special abilities:

Merciful:
A merciful weapon deals an extra 1d6 points of damage, but all damage it deals is nonlethal damage. On command, the weapon suppresses this ability until told to resume it (allowing it to deal lethal damage, but without any bonus damage from this ability).

Sapping:
This special ability can be placed on only weapons that deal nonlethal damage. A sapping weapon deals an additional 2d6 points of nonlethal damage. When the wielder confirms a critical hit with the weapon, the target becomes fatigued for 5 rounds

It seems clear that if the base weapon does nonlethal damage (like a Sap), you can get these stacking for a total of +3d6

But what about a typically lethal weapon? If one applies the Merciful ability first, can you then add the Sapping ability?

IF this combo works, I'd assume that if one "suppresses" the Merciful, the Sapping would turn off by default as well (since the weapon wouldn't be non-lethal until Merciful was turned back on)
