I was recently thinking of having spells using multiple spell slots or using both spell slots and power points (yes, this was something I thought of for fixing mystic theurge type classes)

If the ray hits it deals 1d4/arcane caster level fire damage as well as stunning the target for 1 round. If the save is made the target isn't stunned but otherwise the spell has its normal effect.
Material component: Red crystal dust
Augment
For every additional power point you spend the duration of the stunning is extended by 1 round.
Every two additional power points spend augmenting this power increase the will save DC by 1.
