Ready Aim Fire! Round 13

Continuing in the tradition, sign up here for more murder and mayhem in Ready Aim Fire!

Theme is still to be finalized, but seeing as it is #13, and #13 being unlucky in some circles, I was thinking of something in line with the horror scene. Maybe a bunch of meddling kids exploring a haunted house. Or maybe a horde of mad zombies (Brrrrrrrains).

Anyway, heres the sign-up thread. So register your interest by posting below. Registration will continue until I feel like closing it (and time permits), but lets say for right now you have until Sunday 10 June 2007.

Also I have an "auto-notify" list from a couple of games ago. It started as "auto-sign-up" but given the fluid nature of this message board I am treating it as an auto-notify. Basically you will be notified via PM whenever a new iteration of this game starts so you won't miss a round. If you wish to have your name added to the auto-notify list please also indicate this when you sign up.

Just curious, do we have a a more specific theme than just horror yet? If not, I have two suggestions. My aforementioned Lovecraftian theme, or Resident evil.

This one was kinda inspired by the number 13, and the advent of the undead in the last rebellion game.
Lovecraft is all very well, but I don't think I have really read enough Lovecraft to be able to narrate in that style, and I must say I more prefer the silly to the serious in this sort of game. So this might just end up being more like a cheap horror flick with horrible gory deaths in it.

Don't have time to write an intro, but if I start the game now, I should close round one on the weekend some time where I will have time to write some stuff.

I'm around. I have the votes tallied. I don't have the time right now to write it up. I was going to do it last night but my internet access went dead on me.
Hopefully tonight.
In other words the game should be updating in approx 12 hours. But no promises :-)

Everybody knows about the haunted mansion at the top of the hill. Everyone has heard of some kid that disappeared exploring in there,

never to be seen again. Of course nobody really believes that stuff, but it makes for great stories. Summer vacation. A great time

to relax, have a few beers and party the night away. And the top of the hill is a great place for a party away from the watchful eyes

of parents where you might actually be able to have some fun. And its not like you're going INTO the house or anything. Just hanging

around the grounds. What harm could there be? YOu wouldn't be disturbing anyone. Nobody has lived up there in years.

The party was going great until the clouds suddenly rolled in and the heavens opened up. Now you find yourself standing on the porch

of the house shivering in the chill wind. Lightning momentarily illuminates the landscape, and the crash of thunder follows it too close for comfort. Even under the little bit of cover offered by the porch, you're going to get soaked through - and the door creaking open behind you when someone touched it is just too tempting an invitation. Everybody bundles inside.

Theres nothing else to do until the rain stops, why not explore the house a bit? Why not indeed?

The main entrance would have been grand once. However time has taken its toll and it just looks big and empty now. A grand staircase ascends from one end, while doors go off to the left and right, one appearing to be a sitting room of sorts. Spooky? A little. But at least its dry and relatively warm compared to outside.

There even appears to be a light of sorts coming from somewhere. You all gape as a spectral figure comes floating around the corner."What? Guests? At this time of night? You'll be wanting some pie then! I'd better be off to the kitchen."

Unable to suppress their curiosity, AlmightySalmon, FleeingCoward, Morkdokai, Zar Peter, Silkenfist, Shadow, Kasz and Kewlkat head off after the "ghost" finding themselves in a long passageway with many many doors going off it. The spectral form goes straight down the passage, and THROUGH the door at the other end.

Not everybody had followed the ghost. Going upstairs, Aegeus, HyramGraff, FUllbladder, Alec, Pingcode, Rumda, Weebl Ink and PGCoD found themselves in something like a museum. Weapons hang on display on the wall. Swords, shields, bows, muskets - even a cannon. Hundreds of years of history. At the far end suits of armour stand guard against a door, and other ancient warriors are dressed in their battle raiment.

Among the most impressive exhibits are a pair of statues. Inscriptions identify them as mighty Lords of their time. Lord Magtok the terrible practically lived in his armour his whole life - so much so it became part of him. Lord Herman the fierce warrior standing beside him is mentioned as slaying the lives of 100 innocents. Beyond them are other figures. A Redcoat soldier, A pirate and a samurai warrior are just the ones you can see. For some reason there also seems to be a mummified Llama.

In the half light the figures seem almost alive. You could swear that Lord Magtok is watching you from the depths of his helmet. Surely its your imagination of course. Slowly the armour turns toward you, and lurches into silently into motion.

Down in the hallway, following the ghost, FleeingCoward opens the door at the end of the corridor, to find a pair of Zombies (Silkenfist and Dr Bath) standing on the other side of it. And they DON'T look friendly. In a panic, FleeingCoward makes for the nearest exit: another door which opens to reveal a Skeletal Destro_Yersul. Screaming and running again FleeingCoward opens a third and fourth door revealing Aston, DarkCorax and Xykon fan - more Zombies! Aston catches him a nasty blow to the head sending him spinning back into the corridor.

Mordokai and Zar Peter try to stop FleeingCoward from opening any more doors but are a bit rough in doing it. FleeingCoward falls to the floor unmoving. Shadow seeing his friend fall lashes out at Mordokai pushing him into the path of the oncoming Zombies, before himself being struck down by DarkCorax and Destro Yersul.
Kasz and KewlKat appear rooted to the floor. They just stand there as Xykon_fan and Calamity reach into their stomachs and pulls out their internal organs.
Akaziel emerges from one of the rooms he had gone in to explore. "Look what I just found!". He is holding what appears to be a spring loaded chainsaw gun. "Die you undead pieces of meat" he yells as he pulls the trigger. The chainsaw flies through the air at Silkenfist - and misses. Dr Bath and Silkenfist look at each other and then at the chainsaw sitting on the ground between them. Dr Bath picks up the chainsaw and turns it on the hapless AlmightySalmon, while Silkenfist breaks into an evil laugh at the turning of the tables. His laughter is cut off abruptly as Akaziel picks up an ashtray off a nearby table and brains him with it.

Meanwhile in the museum, Atreyu the mummified llama awakes hungry, but not really interested in human flesh, goes looking for candy instead. Reaching for anything that might come to hand, the friends prepare to fight for their lives. Fullbladder picks up an arrow from a display and runs suicidally towards Lord Magtok. The arrow embeds itself in a gap the armour near the shoulder. Alec follows Fullbladder in, hefting a cricket bat in both hands and swings a mighty blow. Magtoks head goes flying through the air and smashes through a window. Thats a 6 for sure.

His entire self focused on the flight of Magtok's head through the air, Alec fails to notice Lord Herman shamble up behind. Pingcode comes to the aid of his friend, causing Lord Herman to stumble back, whereupon Aegeus lets him have both barrels of a hastily grabbed shotgun at point black range. Lord Herman stumbles and falls, but it is too late for Alec, who's brains lie half-eaten on the floor.

BassetKing the Undead Samurai still retained some trace of his former self. Fighting the urge to kill the humans, and realising the horror of what he had become he resolved to end his un-life in the most honourable way possible. He started running at an open Iron maiden intending to impale himself upons its spikes. Just short of his ultimate goal, Rumda stepped into his way. Together they crashed into the torture apparatus, Rumdas body absorbing the impact of the spikes leaving BassetKing unharmed, but responsible for another innocent death.

"Run!" someone screamed as more "mannequins" came to life and started advancing. Weebl dashed past the dread pirate Captain Van Der Decken, only to be cut down by a cutlass from behind. HyramGraff and pingcode make it to the door only just ahead of another figure which is moving very quickly for a zombie. "We can't outrun it" pingcode pants. "Its too fast for us"
"WE, don't have to outrun it" responds HyramGraff, drawing a pistol and shooting his companion in the kneecap. "Only one of us does". Pingcodes' screams follow HyramGraff down the stairs.
Seeing what is happening to their friends, Ink and PGCoD run and dive out the nearest window, forgetting they have climbed to the second level of the mansion. Their screams cut off abruptly as they hit the ground below.

Sitting in front of a fire, Faerwain enjoys the cheery blaze, not that it really warms his undead body. Although confined to a wheelchair rusted into immobility, his spectral form is free to roam. And roam it does appearing suddenly through a wall beside Stu42 and yelling "Boo!" into his ear. This is too much for Stu's already fragile nerves, and his heart gives out.

Meanwhile the Mummified Llama finds itself attracted to the blaze, and the form in the wheelchair before it. Surely such a nice figure must have a lot of candy? The llama walks up and butts his head against Faerwains knee, hoping for a scratch, and hoping even more for candy. Not finding either forthcoming (Faerwain's spirit being absent scaring visitors) the Llama butts a bit more insistently. And then harder again. Finally in a rage at not getting any candy, the llama strangles the wheelchair-bound knight with an end of his mummy bandaging, before going in search of nicer people who might give him candy.

A number of people elect just to wait in the sitting room. Alarra, DarklightDragon, Inky, Krursk, Khantalas and Supagoof pull out a pack of cards, and start playing poker. Their game is interrupted by Castaras, previously the head chef, and angry that noone every liked her pies. She emerges from the wall throwing ghostly pies everywhere, which while giving everybody a scare, don't seem to do any harm.

The master of the house finally makes his appearance. An ancient vampire from the days of Rome, Fredricus awakened from his long slumber by the smell of fresh blood in his mansion flies out in the form of a bat. Seeing the sweetest of blood already wasted by some of his minions he takes out his wrath on Xykon_Fan for not leaving the victims alive for him.

But the night is young yet, there are still humans alive and the probability of more blood being spilt in this house of horror is quite high.

More madness and mayhem from the haunted house on the hill.

BassetKing, the Undead Samurai mourns that he is again responsible for the eath of innocents. Drawing his blade, he attempts honourable seppuku. This ime he succeeds.

Akaziel has a cunning plan to kill Castaras. Entering the kitchen, and pointing a spring loaded spear thrower at the entrance, he calls out in a loud voice. "Mmmmmm. Those pies smell nice. I want some. Who is around to give me some pies?" With his finger on the trigger he waits for Castaras to come through the door. Unfortunately spectres don't need doors. Castaras rushes out of the wall behind Akaziel with a whole lot of pies. "You wanted a pie? Here I cooked a fresh batch. You like? Have some more?" Castaras keeps stuffing Akaziel full of pies until he explodes.

Calamity discovered he liked the feel of pulling out internal organs. The squish as the flesh split between the fingers. He wanted to do it again. But noone was left around. Looking down, he saw her own partially decomposing stomach, and eagerly began tearing away at it pulling his own intestines happily all over the floor. He kept doing so all the way to oblivion.

Alarra, DLD, Inky, Krursk, Khantalas and Supagoof are still playing poker, oblivious to the screams of the dead and dying around them. Atreyu the mummified Llama continuing his search for cand lays his head on Supagoof's lap looking up imploringly with his decomposing eyes. Supagoof pushes him away impatiently. "I'm in the middle of a game here". Angered by this lack of
affection (and candy), Atreyu resolves to lay the curse of the mummy on Supagoof - to spend the rest of eternity locked in a room full of... meatloaf! Unfortunately, for the undead Llama, Supagoof is holding the card of death - the Queen of Spades. His curse rebounding upon him, Atreyu goes howling into an eternity with the knowledge that never again will he find candy.

The pile of matchsticks/chips in the middle of the table has grown quite large. Smiling broadly, Krursk lays down his cards - 4 aces. "My hand I think". As he reaches into the middle to pull in the matchsticks , Khantalas suddenly intervenes. "If you have 4 aces, how come I have an Ace as well?". In a fit of rage Khantalas slams Krursk's heads down into the pile of matchsticks, which impale him through the eye, piercing the brain - killing him instantly.

As the other poker players are reeling in shock, Zar Peter and HyramGraff rush in hotly pursued by zombies and skeletons. Drawing his pistol again, HyramGraff shoots DarkLightDragon, in an attempt to distract the monsters following him. This time his strategy is not so effective. Ignoring DarklightDragon, the fiends plough into the poker players. The dread pirate Captain Van Der Decken beheads Alarra with one swipe of his trusty cutlass. The zombie DarkCorax swipes at Inky13112 sending him flying across the room. In response, Zar Peter attacks DarkCorax with an axe, cutting him down, before himself falling to the skeltal Destro Yersul attacking him from behind. Inky turns tail and runs, he just about makes it to the front door when The ancient vampire Fredricus swoops down on him from above, bearing him away to drink his blood in peace.

Lord Fullbladder finds himself alone facing two Zombies in the form of Dr Bath and Aston. Screaming defiance at them he rushes them both. His kick takes Dr Bath full in the face, sending his head flying. However this leaves him defenceless against Aston coming at him from behind. In the throes of death, Dr Bath's headless body is swiping wildly at everything. A stray arm strikes off Aston's head as head as well. All three bodies fall to the ground.

Real life still being annoying?

Aegeus has been busy in the kitchen. What has emerged is a very complicated contraption involving eggs, flour, cheese, a common household kitchen blender, an electric fan, a mouse in a box, a seesaw and a trolley with a pie dish and candle on it, all connected by ropes and pulleys.
He is just now explaining how to use it. “Castaras, all you have to do is stand here, and pull this rope, and we will get the most perfect pie ever.” Castaras looks a little confused at why this human isn’t running away screaming like the rest of them, but decides to play along, and tugs on the rope.

The rope runs through a set of pulleys and ends up raising a little door on the box releasing the mouse. The mouse runs over the seesaw and starts eating the cheese at the other end of it. Tripping the seesaw releases the eggs which go rolling down a ramp to crack at the bottom and drain into the mixing bowl. It also presses the power button on the blender which whirs into motion and starts beating the eggs. A string wrapped around the egg beater attachment winds itself up as the mixer churns, pulling the trolley with pie dish and candle across the floor. The trolley stops when it runs into a precisely placed buffer, releasing flour into the mixing bowl, and positioning the candle directly under the waxed string. 30 seconds later the candle flame has burnt through the string releasing the tension and causing the mixing bowl to empty its contents into the pie dish below. Simultaneously the other end of the string releases a hammer, which falls down onto the operating switch of the electric fan. The sudden rush of air from the fan blows the spectral Castaras over and into the pie bowl which slides into the waiting oven to be baked. Castaras makes the best pies ever. She’ll be delicious.

However it seems that some aren’t patient enough for her pie to be baked. And besides they prefer the living to the undead. As Aegeus is savouring the sweet smell of pie and victory, the undead pirate Captain Van Der Decken and the Vampire Fredricus sneak up on him from behind. By the time the pie is ready, they’ve already eaten and drunk their fill from the would be pastry-chef.

Meanwhile back in the main lounge, Khantalas and Supagoof resumed their game of cards, joined surprisingly by the Skeletal Destro Yersul. They had to open a new pack (the last lot had too much blood on them, and you could always tell who had the Joker) but at least they could see that he Destro wasn’t hiding cards up his sleeve.

HyramGraff having run out of companions to sacrifice decides to switch tactics. As the zombies approach, he reverses the gun and holds it to his own head. “Alright – back off or my brains will get blown all over the floor, and you’ll never get a taste of them” The zombies stop for a moment, look at eachother, shrug, and then start shuffling forward again. “I mean it!” HyramGraff shouts – one more step and I blow my brains out. His finger tightens on the trigger. As the zombies step forward he pulls it.

Destro_Yersul has been having an uncanny streak of luck in the poker game. Most of the gold coins are stacked up on his side of the table, leaving precious few for the other players. Khantalas however has a cunning plan to remove the skeletal Destro and claim his winnings all in one go. While Destro's attention is drawn elsewhere Khantalas leans over the table, and pours a vial of acid onto his poker hand. While it doesn't affect the cards, as soon as Destro picks them up, he'll be a goner.
Khantalas: " Well are you in or are you out? Take another look at your cards if you want"
Destro_Yersul finally stirs: "Fold - its your pot"
Khantalas cackles, drawing to himself the huge pile of money, and then picks up the cards to redeal. Only when his hand starts melting away does he remember the acid. Supagoof, picks up a new pack of cards, and continues dealing oblivious to everything around him.

Meanwhile, having finally sated his hunger for now, Fredricus retreats to his private museum where he has gathered mementos of all the would be vampire slayers he has met and defeated. He stops in front of a particularly nasty wooden stake identified as "Mister Pointy". Unbeknownst to him, the Pirate Captain Van Der Decken has been following at a distance. Seeing his opportunity Decken rushes the ancient vampire intending to impale him on the stake. At the last second Fredricus changes into his Vampire bat form in order to fly up and take a closer look at some of the exhibits. Captain Van Der Decken unable to halt his headlong charge, impales himself on the stake instead of the vampire.

Supagoof is still blankly shuffling cards, eyes rather crazed, and continually muttering his breath. He starts building them up into a tower, and manages to get it four levels high, before he grabs one of the cards left with acid on it. He follows Khantalas in forming a slimy mess on the floor.

The door to the sitting room flies open and the ancient Vampire Fredricus is revealed standing in the doorway. "What have you done to my house?" he roars. "Look at the mess on the floor - we'll never get the stains out!" Destro_Yersul decides that eternal death will be a better fate than trusting his undead body to the tender mercies of the master of the house, and grabs the acid bottle to finish himself off. He is shaking so much that he drops it onto the floor where it starts burning a hole in the rug.

"That carpet was Edwardian!". Fredricus charges the giant skeleton, only to run directly through the bubbling puddle of acid. Destro runs from the roon out to the hall, with the Vampire in deadly pursuit. So intent is the Fredricus on his prey, that he doesn't notice his strides becoming shorter and shorter as his legs melt away. Eventually slumping at the bottom of the stairs, his body succumbing to the deadly acide, the dread vampire still does not give up hope. "Come back and fight like a man! I'll bite your legs off".
