Hey all, welcome to the first season of Playground Idol! It is a contest to see who is the best bard in the playground (though I won't be giving out a "Bard in the Playground" award unless you guys really want to, and one hasn't been given out already). Contestants can try to gain the favor of the playground using any sort of performance they can think of. Stories, poems, musical performances (if you can link to them), and the like are all eligible entries.

To enter: Post a performance here that you think the rest of the playground will like. After the two weeks is up, I will open voting for contestants to the board as a whole, and the top 12 will then go on to the primary rounds. Each week contestants will come up with a new, original performance to try to gain the playground's votes. After that, the bottom two will be dropped each week until we reach 6 contestants. Then, we will only drop one a week, until we finally get down to the final two.

Plagiarism is strictly prohibited, and you will be removed from the contest if you do so. Each work must be original. I am accepting suggestions for a maximum word limit on each story, but I think about one page at 12 pt. font in Microsoft Word or a similar application will do fine. That is only the maximum limit, so feel free to make it shorter if you want to.

Also, if someone is willing to make the award for the finalist and the runner-up, that would be awesome. Essentially, they would be just like the other awards running around here, and they would have "Playground Idol" on it. Feel free to embellish on the design as much as you want, but it might be a good idea to make it similar to the American Idol logo.

Here's hoping this takes off!

The Beginning of Forever

And as the armies stood arrayed before one another, Murdoc shut his eyes and hummed.

Welcome to the land I have known
In the sorrowed mist and shattered bone
Inside of caves and carved stone
The son of He is all alone
But still again a fight shall rise
And a battlecry to shake the skies
For within the acid rain and fiery hale
Comes forth the unforgiven sin:
The banshee’s wail
But to destroy that which to him was born
The blessing to have his soul betwixt betorn
And again to find that within
Is all to that it ends, begin.
The silent shears that break the days
And the uttered prayer that strengthens faith
Shall again resume the sorrowed land
And aid to death, through life, a hand
That shall grasp by the neck the empty soul
And break apart all that one knows
Before the crimsoned water and usurped throne
Shall be brought to cast the stone
And apart together within without
A man and a monster with tumulus shout
Shall stir the dust and rend the air
Before the earth has been prepared
To sink its teeth into mortal ooze
Which bleeds from those the Man-God choose
And break upon the beach as the sea
And dance upon heavens quite readily
But yet to still sink into the hells
Where the empty tomb waits
For whom the death toll knells
And drips its life into its death
Before its time has been bereft
Of all it knows and yet holds dear
The kindled fire, the whispered ear
Mutters what happens to those who die
Apart from god’s favor and the eternal eye
Who sits above in the watchful sky
To see again the life of man
Never holy, but always damned
And apart from him forever be
Unless one finds hope to eternity
And within his heart is a place of grace
Yet we may now not touch his feet or see his face
Before the end of all things new
Before the beginning of what the world knew
And find that, again, we struggle to find the place
That was meant for all alike
Instead of trying to find the place
Amidst the bloody rubble that is life surround
They lift their hands and ask
To have their spirits humbled down
So that they too may journey far
Beyond the land in which we are
To the land where sorrow never rains
And where peace never suffers pain
To a place apart from treach that never steals
And where the flowing fountain ever overfills
And spills into the lives of the saints
Who restrain their interests
And sound trumpets shrill
To praise the name that will forever
Be held in highest regard
That causes titans to bow
And dims the brightest star
For the eternity of forever
Has yet to be never realized
And the only way to begin
Is to ask a word from the wise
Who never cease to praise this Lord
That never began to be aft or before
For He begins before the rain
That taintest shadow
And tampers pain
And before the tempests rose to sing
And spread fore him offrings bring
The sun, the moon, the stars, the sky
Offer to him their very lives
And he accepts that they may keep within his perfect plan
That is not perfect for mortal man
For drow construes the truth as lies
And the dwarf betrays the friend that hides
To allay his unmasterable shame
Of feeling unworthy to say His name
For he knows how broken he has become
There is many lost as he did
But who has won?
Is it the race who has no voice
That sends to destiny by simple choice
And determines the place achieved
Before the dully joyous and bereaved
That stand before the altar sing
And lift to Him most worthy things
That we may too may hear the prayer
Of a God who one time granted theirs
And step in tune with the song of praise
That is raised to I AM, the Ancient of Days
To find that all within is treasure sure
But before them forever endure
That which comes from neither below
Nor above, but is a simple, honest act of love
To bring about the dream of He
Who created fate and destiny
For all to find a place to rest
From the toils of life
And endless stress
So that the name of Him
Might be honored more
Than the one to which was born
Or the line their of, his lineage great
Before God, a king in heart and name
Like them who accepted their brothers endless fault
To find that he is worth it all,
Just to teach that he may hear
And learn that he has but One to fear
Above all else, enchanted fame
That goes beyond a simple name
For within YWH is the end before
That which happened in the days of yore
After the end of the precurse to the beginning
Tearing the curtain, and opening fate to forgiving
And bestowing the gift that is He
Who died at once for both you and me
And rested the burden upon his frame
That bore it all to honor God and name
Of the ghost that haunts us all
And disturbs the wicked
Until they fall
Upon the plain that was chosen for the final day
Of the beginning of forever

And with this I pray
That the beginning will not determine the end
For He came to redeem, not condemn, my friend.

I might join. I'm already in Iron Author though, so I doubt it.

Can we do song covers on here???

Ummmm...I'd prefer entries were mostly original, but song covers and the like will be allowed. It's largely based on whether or not the voters will like it or not. My advice: If you're going to do a song cover, pick a popular song!

Hey guys, this doesn't look like it's going to take off, especially since I didn't know there was the whole "Iron Author" and all the others in arts and crafts. So I'll give it a while, but unless more start coming on, I'm going to discontinue this. I have another idea anyway, and I'd prefer not to run multiple games at the same time.

I can start it sooner if you would prefer, but it appears that I don't have enough people. If you want though, I can start with the...seven or so people that we have. Otherwise, you may want to market it in your sig or something if you'd like more competition.

Also, only one of you have actually sent in a performance so far. Please send in your performances and vote on whether you want it to start now or not.
