View Full Version : The Brick Awards: The Best of the Worst Tournament #311-340

About 2 years ago, a great forumite named Porthos created an OOTS voting contest (based on a much shorter lived, but equally fantastic, previous version) which had forum goers vote on the best OOTS strips of all time. It was an impressive contest which has gone on for over 2 years (and only ended, or went on hiatus, due to running out of strips) and will undoubtedly be remembered in this forum as one of the most well-run ongoing threads on here.

This is not that contest. This is a shameless mockery of that contest.

Welcome to The Brick Awards, the Best of the Worst Tournament!

The Stick Awards were handed out to the best strips of all time as chosen by our fellow Playgrounders. However, when voting for the Stick awards, some strips felt left out, abused, unloved. Whether they simply were a weak strip, or a decent strip surrounded by amazing strips, for whatever reason some strips just didn't get any votes. :smallfrown:

So this contest is designed to give those strips the morale boost they need and deserve! I am collecting all the strips which received zero votes in the Stick awards and presenting them in groups of ten (Or, at least close to ten, since I don't want to cut off in the middle of a group of strips). We will then vote as to which is our favorite of the worst strips so we can finally decide which the best worst strip is!

(And let's be honest, even the worst OOTS strips are still pretty good and deserve our appreciation!)

To vote in this thread, simply state which comic of the ten eleven listed is your favorite. Bolding the number of the comic (Like this) helps it stand out.

Because of the holidays, voting will last until Tuesday, January 5 at 10AM (MT). Any votes made after that will NOT count toward the totals.

Last week, we went the long way around boring and back again to interesting when http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h87/osiris32/celiasmiley.png Closing Arguments (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0282.html) was our winner.

What?! How did none of these get any votes the first time around? So many of them are great!

I've always loved the punchline to 320: Bing Crosby's Got Nothing On Us, so I pretty much have to vote for that one. I have to admit that I still don't get the title of the strip, though.

Google: "Road Movies Bing Crosby" and see what comes up . . .

A memorable turn from Wizard Guy in 340 was worth consideration, but it has to be 333--The Bright Side. Is my pick being influenced by knowledge of what will happen in the second page called The Bright Side (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0877.html), over 500 pages later? Of course it is.

#336 Elan is so cute :3

I also have to go with 333 - The Bright Side here, though there are some really memorable lines in some of the others.

(And that reasoning process, incidentally, is probably the answer to the question people are asking about why none of these got a vote in the first place).

Everyone loves the NPC Wizard, and 'The Belkster don't have time for the fuglies.' is an excellent line, but I like the Bert and Ernie dynamic of: 336

All of them ate actually pretty good. I vote for the plot twist in the 332 The Ephemerality of Memory.

I like 340 for V's explanation of why he can't cast Teleport, 315 has a fantastic last panel after the romantic set-up, but my pick has to be #338  Gotta love the Belkster.

I'll go for 315. It's heartwarming for the first part, and then the last frame juxtaposed to that is fairly hilarious, IMO. Right down to the patently absurdist fact that someone in Azure City put out a bug lamp big enough to zap a medium-sized creature.

332, Elan getting a nice moment.

315 has the right amount of romance and comedy.
333 is probably the best one in the bunch, for the sweetness and the huge number of theories born from it

but in the end, i vote for 322. Fear the dreaded bunnywolf!

I find it amazing that literally half of the comics from 331-340 got 0 votes in the original tournament. 337 was the winner that week FYI.

Well, it's not that surprising considering they were up against not only #337 but also #331 :P

But anyway. #333 stands out as a touching emotional moment.

I'll go with 333 - The Bright Side

The last panel is so heartbreaking now we know and see the fight of Roy and Durkula

336 for me, comedic with cliffhanger.

It's not going to win this week, but I've got to say I've always liked 324, and I don't think it belongs in the Ultra Brick.

Gotta say, 337 really deserved to steal the spotlight in the Stickies. Honestly I'm surprised it didn't get further than it did. And when you consider that 331 had lasting implications that, to this day, aren't entirely resolved... yeah. Really not too surprising that a couple strips monopolized the vote that round.

I'm still amazed that a rule gag in #337 beat #331

332 for me: Elan has a bright idea, but cannot prevent Roy from shooting himself into the foot.

The long Holiday Round is now over!

Oh gosh, so much pressure! I'm definitely choosing between #332 (for the humor) and #333 (for the future implications); and those are the two tied for most votes! Since #333 has direct implications on the plot NOW, I'm going to choose it I think.

#333, :durkon:The Ephemerality of Memory (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0333.html), is our winner this week!

VOTING IS NOW CLOSED!

(#318 and #340 go on to the ultra-brick awards :smallfrown:)

(#318 and #340 go on to the ultra-brick awards :smallfrown:)So are you going to hold the Ultra-Brick Awards after the Brick Awards? And the Weaponized-Fruitcake Awards after the Ultra-Brick Awards?

So are you going to hold the Ultra-Brick Awards after the Brick Awards? And the Weaponized-Fruitcake Awards after the Ultra-Brick Awards?

My eventual plan is to keep holding more and more levels of these until one strip remains which has NEVER been voted for, which will then be declared the worst OOTS strip

I hope you're serious. I'd really like to do that.
