...in the celestial realm. Wild and Crazy adventures ahead, I'm sure.

Needless to say, I'm almost 100% certain that neither will stay dead for long. But then, I never saw today's comic coming. The Giant definitely knows how to tell a story.

Anyway, time for speculation. They're both (more or less) lawful good, so that ensures their meeting. (When two prominent characters are in the same plane. ie. LG heaven, they MUST meet at some point. Any bard will tell you that.) After that they have a couple of adventures in the after life. Maybe rescue a kitten spirit from a spirit tree or something, who knows.

Eventually, one of them is going to get raised and the other will follow. It'll probably be Roy out first and Miko, desperate for redemption after all, will jump in after him and possess his body from time to time.

Or not, who knows? Looking forward to finding out.

Or maybe we'll finally get that relationship they hinted at a while ago.

It's not certain that Miko will go to the same place Roy went.

Generally, when people murder defenseless 80 year old dudes and then die without repentance, they'll end up going to a very specific place...

That depends on if Miko is still Lawful Good or not. Her behavior since she has showed up has rarely been Good... more Lawful Neutral than anything, with the big Evil one.

Remember, Soon didnt say anything to Miko about her theory of the OOTS being Xykon's lacky's being wrong. She has probably had SOME of the wool lifted from her eyes, but not all. If Roy and Miko do meet in LG heaven, which I hope they do, I dont think she'll be too happy to see him, at first at least. Maybe they can reconcile before Roy is raised by his team...hopefully. But nothing is certain, remember the Giants preferred strategy is to do what most of us least suspect.

no, when people dedicate their entire life to serving the cause of good, and then at the end managet to make a singel minor mistake at the end, then they still do end up at the LG heaven.

Yeah, you'd think there'd be some repercussions for what Miko did. But Soon promised her visits from her steed. So I assumed that she would be in the celestial realm just the same.

I suppose the way he worded it could mean that she won't join the other paladins and/or Roy, wherever they are.

Oh well, there are still possibilities there that they'll meet at some point.

For some reason, Soon's smile when he promised her that appeared a little strange to me.

The promise that Windstriker would visit her as often as he is able might as well foreshadow repeated kicks to the head... Prometheus MkII?

The way I read Soon's comment of "windstriker will visit you" as reinforcing the point that miko is somewhat going to hell.

Although i must admit, I'm not sure what version of heaven/hell/celestial planes rich is going for. Maybe more technically she's going to The Abyss (if I can recall Torment correctly).

I can't see her going to hell.
Killing Shojo was stupid and judgemental, but I can't see her getting an Evil alignment over a semi-justifible action when not in a normal state of mind
I read Miko as Lawful Neutral now, can't remember what Neutrals get.
Or she could get into General Good afterlife as Lawful Good/ Lawful Neutral would have given a trial as Hinjo wanted

Yeah, cause 'murder' is just oh-so-minor. Really, who HASN'T murdered a defenseless old man before these days? Hell, I killed three old men while walking home last night.

Hell, I strangled a geriatric the day before yesterday.

I think she will most likely go to the Neutral place. To me she's disturbed, not evil. But its Rich's point of view that counts on this one, though he has often made things in the comic to not be totally B&W.

Yes, in D&D murder can be minor. Remember Miko murdered the bandit king and his daughter? They were pretty much defenceless to her so that would count as murder.

Murder doesn't give you a 100% swing to evil in D&D - also you don't have to leave the LG part of the alignment chart to fall from paladinhood, so Miko could be anywhere from LG to LE (doubtful she's anywhere near that though)

In my opinion, Roy is more lawful Good, while Miko is more Lawful good (well, before she started bisecting octegenarians, at least). It's quite possible neither will go to the OotS-variety of Celestia, but instead the OotS versions of Bytopia and Arcadia respectively.

I haven't, but plenty of my good-aligned PCs have. And the victims weren't always deserving, I might add, more than once it's happened on mistake because fate (and the DM) can be one fiendishly inventive and nasty $#@%.

Why doyou guys have any argument about where miko's going after Soon said himself she'll be taken to the celestial realm?

Celestial = good, remember? :p

She might not be a paladin, she might have commited that mistake, no matter how grave it was, but if you look at it she's still Good. She had the safety of the city as one of her priorities, and she always thought of doing it all for the greater good.

I'd love to see Roy and Miko meeting in there, but I just can't dare to imagine what might happen.

Lawful Neutrals get Arcadia, Mechanus or Acheron. If she heads to Arcadia, it's feasible that she might meet Roy. But of course, there's no guarantee that the Outer Planes are the standard ones in Rich's universe.

I just got this crazy idea. What if Roy was somehow sent to Baator after his death? An honest mistake, you would think. He is lawful, and good and evil are so close together, hey, we made a mistake, here's a cookie for you and no hard feelings, yes? Then after Miko gets there and sees Roy pouting on rock, surrounded by devils it goes somethin like this:

:miko: "Where, where am I? What is this place?"

/notices Roy, encircled with few horned devils who make fun of him, gets the general idea.

:miko: "You! I knew you were aligned with the lich and his goblin servant! Admit it, evildoer!"

:roy: "sigh" "It just doesn't get any better, doesn't it?"

Soon says: "Even now, we are fading to the Celestial Realm. We will usher you to your destination as well."

Miko is not going to the same place as the rest of the Guard. If she were, soon wouldn't have needed to distinguish between the Celestial Realm on the one hand, and "your destination" on the other. He would have simply said "there." However, as it wasn't apparent at that point in the comic that she was about to enter the afterlife, I guess an argument could be made that Giant had to be ambiguous about it. If he didn't want to make the distinction, though, he could have just as easily left the second sentence out.

I'm thinking the difference between the two places isn't going to be about slight alignment gradients--it's going to be major. And I hope we get to see it.

As has been noted, we have at least 3 alternate readings.
Soon may have simply been sloppy in his language. Since he stands accused of a language error on the same page, a precise reading may simply be a misunderstanding.
Soon may not know precisely where Miko is going. He is a fighter with a knowledge of ethics, not the specialist cleric who would know the exact point.
The Celestial Realm may well be several locations, allowing the paladins to go to a different part of it than Miko goes.

She seriously does not deserve hell and damnation.
I mean, she's more or less a misguided child with no ill intent.
I mean: Look at it from her perspective; the man who forced her into service as a paladin, who Forced her to leave everything behind for the Sapphire Guard, has all this time been colaborating with the ones trying to kill you!
He has played the "Innocent old fool" all this time while he's really just been lying to the paladins, using them as tools for his own cloak-and-dagger designs. He rules the entire judicial system, he owns and pulls the strings of everything! All that you belived to be true and right was a facad created by his lies, infact all you've ever belived in has been a lie, and nothing you've ever done has been done for the reasons you belived. There is no deeper treason than that. I personally would go nuts and kill him too, beliving it was the righteous thing to do.
So when you do this grand act of self sacrafice, for the good of the people (I mean since when did killing the despote of a large city in his own throneroom in the middle of the day become anything but suicide?) comes the final betrayal, your own GODS; the beings you dedicated your every breath to casts you down and proves that the entire multiverse hates you, and that your life and actions so far has been utterly meaningless.
Would you go nuts, go into denial, do anything to prove them wrong?

i would.

Very much agreed. And the final question Miko made? Wouldnīt you ask fora bit of Solace if you lie there, dying? From the only who has been kind to you in weeks, even though your world came crashing down? Itīs not evil or selfish.....
If believe she will meet Roy, if only for dramatic or comedic purposes.

You know who believed that leader and became a great Sith Lord after a genocidal like annihilation of the Jedi and permanent disfigurement? Anakin Skywalker.

You know who did not believe that leader and fell from Paladinhood, got locked up, cut in half, and weakened the fabric of existence? Miko Mizashi.

So what have we learned? Never put ones self in a position in which you trust a politician, you are just an expendable piece. Be wary of your hubris: arrogant and condescending people are always humbled, or else. In the wise, intelligent, and charismatic words of Haley Starshine. "Grow a sense motive." Follow these simple observations to prevent your invariable plummet into the Tragic Hero PrC.
