like i'm sure holding up the big door of stone as your party makes it through counts as one but dose to hit count as a str based check?

I believe you're asking if an attack roll (on a strength-based attack) counts as a strength check.

Typically the way things word in dungeons and dragons is that things only are what the rules say they are. I have yet to see a rule that calls an attack a strength check, therefore I conclude that attacks are not strength checks.

Perhaps you've seen I rule that my eyes have skipped over?
