I was considering making a pathfinder monk (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/unchained-classes/monk-unchained#TOC-Ki-Pool-Su-) psion theurge-type prestige class. One ability I was going to add was the ability to burn power points to restore ki points, and vice versa. A 1:1 ration obviously isn't balanced, so it'd have to be something like spend 10 power points to regain 1 ki point, and 1 ki point to regain 10 power points, for example.

What do you think would be a "fair" exchange of power to ki?

It should probably be scaling, and be slightly lossy regardless of direction. Say... Changing Ki to PP should get you ML - 1 PP, and changing PP to Ki should cost ML + 1 PP... both based on class level only (not ML boosts or penalties).

Problem with that is ML can be manipulated via various shenanigans, meaning a cheesy player could raise or lower his ML with each transfer until both pools were mostly filled back up, effectively granting infinite Ki and Power.

Maybe it should be flat HD instead of ML.

HD is also manipulable in either direction (Negative Levels and the Bard's Inspire Greatness).

Did you see the parenthetical note I left at the end of that suggestion?

Replenish Ki (http://www.d20pfsrd.com/magic/all-spells/r/replenish-ki) restores 2 ki for a 4th level slot (1 ki if used on someone else), so I would go for an exchange rate like that - 7:2 or 7:1. (Probably 7:1 to counterbalance the inherent flexibility of PP vs. slots.)

AH! I missed that. Thanks.

Magus gets spells slots at a 1 for 1 exchange, so I'd make the conversion the same personally.
