So at level 6 the monk gets the ability to have his unarmed strikes ignore resistance and immunity to nonmagical damage. Does this apply to the sun soul monks killed blast attacks? Would the ignore resistance to radiant damage? Or does that even matter cuz I don't think there are very many monsters that resist it.

Abilities only do what they say they do.

Also the Soul Monk was made after the PHB so the PHB would not reference the Soul Monk.

That ability allows you to ignore resistance and immunity when in reference to normal weapons so you can hit magical creatures. Radiant damage is a completely separate damage so for that you would need an ability that said you can ignore resistance and immunity to radiant damage. So no this ability would not work with it.

However you are correct in that relatively few enemies you will face will resist or be immune to your radiant damage. Combined with the fact that radiant has a fair amount of creatures vulnerable to it/have special things happen when hit by it (such as stop regeneration) it is one of the better damage types (maybe the best though that could be debated).

Monsters that resist or are immune to nonmagical weapons say "Resistant/Immune to slashing, blugeoning and piercing damage from nonmagical weapons".

Radiant damage isn't listed, so it doesn't matter.

Interestingly, this means the sci-fi lasers and disintegration rifles and stuff in the DMG also bypass resistance/immunity to nonmagical weapons, because they don't deal slashing, blugeoning or piercing damage either.

Yeah it's really just the martials that get the short end of the stick when it comes to resistances/immunities. There are a few exceptions but generally it's a middle finger to some players.

Not really all they usually need is any magic weapon (which is fairly common in many campaigns especially officially written ones) and it becomes a non-issue. Compare that to a spell caster which has to have a number of spells with different damage types to get around damage resistance or immunity. This can be especially tough for certain classes and even harder with cantrips. Think the poor sorcerer who wants to be based around an element. It can be dealt with but it is usually more annoying than the often easily avoided resistance to normal weaponry while other damage types usually cannot be helped easily with a single item.

Magic weapons are assumed as not part of the base game. With all my AL games I have never once seen anyone get a magic weapon.

The Sorcerer is a bad choice. While they may not be 100% all the time, they can easily be made into a SWAT type and have a range of different damage optiins, especially at cantrip. And when their damage type is taken away or marginalized, they have a wealth of other options, including a lot of the options given to martials (gish sorcerers are very popular) that one should never say "poor sorcerer". That's like saying "poor Trump lost his land dispute in Scotland".

Notably, magic weapons can qualify as such without being even +1, they can literally just be "Magic" with the effect of overcoming non-magical resistance.

Which the game still doesn't assume a player has one even at level 20.
