FFG CLONE WARS:
YOUNG KNIGHTS
After the BATTLE of GEONOSIS, the CLONE ARMIES of the REPUBLIC have pushed the SEPRATIST DROID ARMIES back, but the JEDI ORDER is short of KNIGHTS to lead them into battle. Several JEDI PADAWONS have been rushed through their trials to meet the growing needs of the WAR.
Approaching their first assignment in the GORDAN REACH, these students can only hope that their training was complete...

The first planet of the Arda System was a orange/brown ball, covered in mountians, canyons and deserts. As the Jedi Cruiser's wedge shaped prow led it into orbit, a shuttle deployed, dropping toward the planet surface.

The clone commander nodded to the former padawons as the cockpit door shut behind him. "Generals, we should reach Arda base shortly. Local dust storms are confusing the sensors, but there wasnt any sign of Sepratist activity when we left."

Dressed in simple homespun robes with his lightsaber clipped to his belt, a frisson of excitement ran up Devan's spine. He tried to appear outwardly calm as befitting a proper Jedi, but being called General by the clone troopers would definitely take some getting used to. The word itself implied so much responsibility that the young Knight couldn't help but harbor some self-doubt. It was a tremendous weight to bear on his inexperienced shoulders, but at least the burden was shared between him and his four other companions. He silently stole a glance at them, wondering if they felt the same way that he did.

With a quiet sigh, Devan found himself missing Master Tachi. She would know exactly what to do in this situation. But alas, he was on his own without her. Turning his attention back to the clone commander, he inquired, "Commander, how heavy has the Separatist activity been in this system? Should we expect much resistance?" He wasn't privy to the Confederacy's end game, but he did wonder if their presence in the Gordian Reach was some sort of play to gain control of the Hydian Way and its lucrative branching hyperlanes. It was something for him to mull over as the shuttle continued its rapid descent to the arid-looking planet below.

Clad in a grey robes, Sasha lounges a little bit further back on the control bridge. "My, my" she says as she idly plays with the small akul tooth affixed to her head,"It's still so strange to think us all generals. Still this should prove an interesting test." She too awaits the commander's response on any historic Separatist activity in the sector, particularly in relation to Dooku.

With little more than his clothes on his back Osil was suddenly whisked away to the Arda system. The trials seemed a blur to him now, and he could scarcely remember the excitement that he once had at the very prospect of being called a Jedi Knight. Now being referred to as General brought up feelings of confusion. While Osil had always been a capable warrior, and an adept star pilot he never thought he would live to see a galactic war unfold.

Silently critiquing the pilot's navigation Osil remarks Commander what are our primary mission responsibilities and parameters? Osil always did like a sense of order and while he may enjoy combat, he always wanted to have a plan going into it. Jumping in with little planning would be certain to lead to his death and potentially others as well.

Freshly minted Jedi Knight Kituron grimaced at the title General. They couldn't all be the General, so how was that supposed to work? Val wasn't very comfortable to begin with, after all, he was the only one not in robes, instead opting for the jacket and trousers his Master had preffered so they didn't stand out in the crowd, and his new lightsaber felt heavy on his hip.

"I actually only have one question, Commander. Who has theater command for this campaign?"

Ideon leant back in his seat with a grin, his arms comfortably placed behind his head. The clone commander was the first to ever call him General, and Ideon found it suited him. "Not a moment to soon. I'm getting bored just sitting here."

"I actually only have one question, Commander. Who has theater command for this campaign?"

Answering each in turn, the commander began, "We have unconfirmed reports of a sepratst force in the region, but this is mainly a defensive posting. Unless the Seppies make a push for the Hydian Way, we shouldnt see much more than scouting forces in the region. I'm sure the Jedi General Kota will be able to clarify your role here."

There's a beeping from the cockpit, and the commander turns, a feeling of concern rising from him for those sensitive to such things. The shuttle bucked, more than just turbulence could account for. "Hold on sirs, I may have to take back that bit about an easy deployment..." he murmurs, bracing himself against the cealing as he heads back up to the cockpit...

(roll your destiny pools, and if you're a light side paragon, say so and add the bonus to the pool. If you want to make a skill check, (say, about Master Kota, or the beeping) ask and suggest a skill, I'll confirm or counter the skill with anther and give a difficulty, and you can roll)

As the shuttle swayed erratically, Devan deftly steadied himself, drawing on his training as an Ataru practitioner to stabilize his center of gravity with a widened combat stance. What's causing this turbulence? he wondered, worriedly. A quick glance toward the cockpit showed the pilot and co-pilot competently attemping to compensate. Relax, the young Jedi reminded himself. Let them do their jobs. It's what they're trained for.

While being independent was a thrill in and of itself, there were times, like right now, that Devan wished he still had the benefit of Master Tachi's guidance. She was unperturbable, her mere presence a soothing balm. And he strove daily to be more like her. As this was his first combat posting as a newly-appointed Jedi Knight, he hoped that his actions during his deployment on Arda I would come to reflect well on Master Tachi and make her proud of him.

Quietly adjusting his robes, Devan reached up and touched the back of his head. His long, dark hair had been pulled back, an upper layer of it tied into a warrior's topknot for convenience's sake. Luckily, it was still securely fastened in place. Regardless, the shuttle would be landing soon. Safely too, he hoped. In preparation, he took the opportunity to clear his mind and calm his thoughts. The commander had stated that there was only a light Separatist presence in the system. With a platoon of clone troopers and four other trained Jedi, what could possibly go wrong?

Ideon grabs on to his seat to stabilize as the shuttle makes a erratic maneuver. He is about to complain about that annoying beep, which he finds far more annoying than a little turbulence, when he suddenly remember back to basic training. They had to listen to a lot of bleeps and bloops and watch a multitude of blinking lights. It never came up again, and was mostly forgotten the next day. That beep however, he somehow found important enough to remember. "Hold on!" he exclaims, flexing every muscle in his body. "I think that's the missile lock."

"Lovely," Sasha sighs,"Those Separatists sure know how to throw a welcome party. Let's find out where they are and show them our thanks." She quickly opens up her datapad and connects to the ship's radar system. By strengthening the signal and directing it to ping off Republic IFF tags, they should be able to locate any unfriendly ships nearby.

You see a handful of Vulture droid fighters surrounded a pair of Hyena Bombers staying below the cloud cover, as the clone pilot continues dropping the shuttle toward a canyon below. As you watch, another set of missiles fire toward you...

The clone commander's voice was curt as he replied, focusing on the control panel in the copilot's seat. "They're out of range, General, and if we close the Vultures will tear us apart. We've making a run for Gauntlet Canyon, but we're shorthanded on this flight, so I need to focus."

With Ideon's verbal warning and Sasha's subsequent confirmation, Devan finally recognized that it was evasive maneuvers and not turbulence that was causing the shuttle's jerky movements. We're under attack! Already! It was a discouraging thought, to be intercepted by Separatist forces so soon. It certainly wasn't a good sign. And unfortunately, the young Mystic was no pilot. So there wasn't much that he could do in this situation other than to trust in the skill of others.

Then the realization dawned on him. Devan's eyes lit up as he looked first at Osil and then gazed back at the clone commander. "Commander, General Osil is one of the best pilots I've ever seen. Is there anything he can do to help?" The other Jedi was definitely the most skilled flier among the five of them. And he was also strong in the Force. If there was anyone he could trust to get the shuttle to safety, it was Osil.

As the cruiser speeds through the planet a sudden sense of calm enveloped Osil. Nodding at Devan Osil takes seat in the empty copilot seat. Speaking to the Commander Osil says Commander transfer pilot control to the copilot station and take the role of the copilot position. flipping various switches Osil feels at home again.

Turning to his fellow Jedi he says I need people on turrets to shoot down the missiles if they come in range. Shields should be redirected to rear facing, and someone needs to work on jamming the targeting lock.Osil exudes an air of comfortability as he takes control of the vessel.

Ideon started breathing to steady himself. He had trained for this, but this was in many ways his first combat experience on his own, without his Master present. Clearing his mind of distractions he turned to a computer terminal and started hitting buttons, seemingly at random. "I should be able to create interference, making the missiles miss!"

Both "Spoof" missile and jamming has a difficulty of two in the ruleboook, so that's what I've rolled. But let me know if there's any Setback dice or similiar to add retroactively:

Sasha signs, and once again sits down with a smile encroaching on her face. Despite the chaos of first contact, it seemed everything was going relatively well. Still she pulls out her datapad and begins to aid Ideon in the signal jamming, inserting lines of code while he issues commands to the electronic systems.

it seems compared to Ideon, I am unskilled so only one die to add. Might as well though right :smalltongue:

The commander slips out of the copilot's seat to give Osil room, as the missile closes in. A well timed burst transmission in it's direction scrabled it's tracker, however, the the missile dropped away, impaacting undramatically on the surface. Osil gains control of the shuttle not a moment too soon- the entrance to the meandering gorge simply called the Gauntlet.

The many twists and turns of the canyon make getting a target lock on you difficult, but the droids are more naturally agile than your shuttle.

Give me a hard pilot check, upgraded twice (that's two reds and a purple) to avoid their locks, with a black die from the difficult terrain, and a blue from the clone pilot assisting you.

Osil guides the ship quickly through the valley doing his best to lose the droids in the tight canyon. Gritting his teeth he flips the shuttle in a spin before rounding a corner trying to lose the Vultures. As warning signals screamed at him in the cabin Osil shouts, Hold on, this is about to get dicey.

Your maneuvering causes systems to spark, the inertial compensater only partially covering the violence of your maneuvers. You see the droids follow you through one turn, than the next... then nothing.

You have just enough time to feel relief when you see a hyena bomber pass over the trench, it's escort in a close protetive formation as it began to rain bombs down onto the narrow valley. The other bomber is still unseen.

Next piloting check is just 2 reds, plus 3 blacks

Osil swears as the bombing rung occurs from above him. Twisting the ship tightly he gets a sinking sensation in his stomach as a premonition of the force tells him he did not make the correct maneuver.

Removed one black dice due to a talent and presumed the co-pilot assisted again. Failed though, this is going to hurt.

A spire of rock leaning over the canyon crumbled under the power of a proton bomb. Gunning the engines, you try to get through before it closes off the canyon, but your shuttle is more lumbering than the Jedi Starfighters you trained on, and you're forced to pop out of the canyon to go over the obstruction.

The second Hyena was waiting. Ducking back into the canyon was enough to avoid most of the Vulture laserfire, but the Hyena's missile followed your maneuver, slipping through your weakened shields and impacting with a series of clinking noises.

You're already banking into the next turn when you see something crawl up to the corner of the viewscreen- a small droid brandishing buzzsaws, holding onto the ship despite your maneuvers. And it's probably not alone.

Anyone in the gunner seat can get a snapshot at the hyena's escorts as you pop out of the canyon- an average Gunnery check, no time to aim.
The next section of canyon is a red/red/purple pilot check, with a black from the buzzdroids getting into yor systems (which will get worse over the fight) and 2 blacks from the bombed-out canyon.(still with a blue from the clone) Anyone who wants to Plot the Course or take a Copilot action (to reduce the chance of going CRITICALLY wrong) should roll it before the pilot.
And someone should probably do something about those buzzdroids. :p

Despite the sudden shifts in momentum from Osil's evasive piloting, Devan managed to stay on his feet due to a combination of luck, the inertial dampeners, and his own native agility somehow keeping him upright. The hem of his dusk-and-khaki colored robes continued to swish against his booted ankles in synch with the shuttle's motions. Charging forward into the cockpit, he dropped his lithe frame into the vacant gunner's chair and gripped the weapon control system's handles with steady hands. Let's see if I can even the odds a bit.

The dark-haired Jedi Knight watched his targeting screen intently, trying to focus and breathe evenly. Things were happening so fast and haphazardly, that it was impossible to aim properly with so much erratic movement going on. He simply had to trust in the Force and take a shot, and pray that he might take out one of the Vulture fighters.

Unfortunately, tricks and backdoors that worked on a starcruiser didnt work on a crewless weapon platform. The Separatist datafeeds are more complicted than you expected, but you're getting a rough bearing on the source of the control signal.
In addition, their unit codes suggest they were only recently activated- they're practically brand new machines.

Devan's snap shot shut down one of the signals, and moments later there's an explosion from above the canyon.
