View Full Version : Bypassing Debatably Unnecessary Censorship

Awhile back, I saw it postulated within this sub-forum that it was okay to use color-coding tricks to circumvent the censor as long as it was for more appropriate uses of the proper word. Examples that spring to mind include the possibility of discussing Batman's young ward Richard Grayson and referring to him as "****" as long as we're using the nickname and not the insult. The specific example used when I saw it discussed within this sub-forum was in reference to the act of "cocking a shotgun". I am asking because I intend to play a whale character for a game here in the forum, and I intended for him to be one giant reference to a certain infamous whale from classical literature who's name is not compatible with the censor, and I was wondering if it would be okay to circumvent the censor to refer to my character Moby ****.

So, would that be alright, or should I refrain from doing that?

EDIT: Apparently, cocking your shotgun is okay, but adding 'ing' to the word does not change the fact that, if one were to **** one's shotgun, it would get censored.

Assuming there wasn't a rule change about it, it is ok.

That's about the answer I expected, but I just wanted to make sure before I started spamming a great white Moby **** across three different threads.

If you are making use of an innocuous form of a blocked word, it is ok to circumvent the filters to discuss it. But, be doubly sure it is being used completely innocuously and appropriately (e.g. there are certain words that will never be ok, regardless of context), as it shows you were aware it was filtered and took steps to circumvent it.

P.S. I was actually the first person to demonstrate the colour code method of circumvention.

I just tried to mention (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?440508-Things-I-May-No-Longer-Do-while-Playing-IX-GNO-GNOMES!&p=20274348#post20274348) the phrase "a god-c.um-religion", and the word "c-u-m" got censored to ***. Is this another instance where I'm allowed to bypass the forum's built-in censors?

I suggest you avoid this particular latin word in all instances except when referring to university degrees/graduations.

That's about the answer I expected, but I just wanted to make sure before I started spamming a great white Moby **** across three different threads. And this demonstrates, perhaps, a spot where you really shouldn't have written that and circumvented the filter to do so. You're not really discussing Moby ****; you're being cheeky and making a double entendre to say the word "****" for a laugh.

I would advise on this issue as on all others, err on the side of caution.

Is **** still censored?

I want to talk about surf rock again.

This thread (or indeed, anywhere) is not the place to test the forum censors.
