Introduction

This thread serves as a collection of links to online webcomics. Each link conveniently brings you straight to the first strip in the archive, allowing you to begin reading right away. There are also descriptions of the comics, content ratings, and enjoyability ratings contributed from other members of the forum. Here on the GitP forums, you can also discuss webcomics with your fellow members. The threads of this forum are often discussion threads for popular webcomics.

If you know of a webcomic that hasn't been added here, simply post here with a link to it (preferably linked directly to the first strip in its archive, just to help me out). Please also post here with questions, comments, suggestions, and descriptions/content/ratings for the webcomics. All help is appreciated!

I hope this is helpful.

Rating (by Icewalker): This comic is amazingly funny, and I definitely suggest it, particularly for those who play any sort of video game. Rating (by Blood): It started out good, with lots of humor, and moved into more random humor and what I see as negative character development as the main character becomes less of a hilarious lunatic and more of a sensible guy. I still recommend it for the occasional laugh.

I'm afraid Wiki dislikes AOhelL IP addresses for the things people do while under them...so I can't do the wiki thing.

http://www.town-comic.com
however, I can take care of. It's based off of the Town board, at the bottom of this forum.

I award you the "coolest pixie" award for this idea btw ;) You're so eager and helpful! :D This'll be handy if I ever get bored and need a new webcomic to plow through.

Alphabatizing would probably what he meant...unless he meant by genre. HMmmmmmmm

Currently I update every tuesday and friday. I try to start some epic fantasy comic, I'm not sure though how good ot will be. I try to put some effort on it. I know its still far from pro like comic but I try to keep working on it and improve myself as a wannabe comic artist.

Just found this thread after creating one else where. so shall now post in the correct place.
The main reason for making this post is to share with you a little gem of a web comic based on life in stormreach. A lot of the humour is based on events that happen on our server (boldrei) but the hummer is generic enough that any RPGer will get most of them.
The site if just getting of the ground and as a friend writer I feel it is my duty to raise his profile.

I'd like to recommend Girls With Slingshots (http://www.daniellecorsetto.com/gws.html). The art style is fantastic and hasn't had a bad moment in it's 200 strips so far. The pacing is great, the use of the fourth wall actually works when it's broken, and the humour style is nice. I have a shirt and a poster from Danielle's store, and the quality is very nice. Take a look, please!

It is slow updating, and on an exceedingly long hiatus as of the 8th (The author has obligatory military service), but Gone with the Blastwave (http://www.blastwavecomic.com/) is an awesome comic. Error establishing a database connection

This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at remotemysqlhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running? If you're unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums (http://wordpress.org/support/).

The link works now. They must have been having problems.

I would like to note for my warnings, that none of the "bloody death" is really scarringly shown, and anything labeled "sex" just means that it is spoken of or implied, but never shown, and there is no real nudity.

OOTS AND ERFWORLD, WOO!

Two Lumps (http://www.twolumps.net/d/20040316.html)
This webcomic is about a pair of cats, Ebeneezer Dusk, esq. and his brother Snooch, who are a pair of cats. This comic has some great moments. Suggested for: anyone who likes cats. No warning.

8-bit theater (http://www.nuklearpower.com/daily.php?date=010302)
This comic is a sprite comic following the plot of the first Final Fantasy game, and has some amazingly hilarious moments, although I have felt it has been declining recently. WARNING: Bloody sprite deaths.

Goblins (http://www.goblinscomic.com/d/20050626.html)
This is an amazing DnD comic, which started out quite funny, and soon became less funny and REALLY really cool and interesting. It has begun to move more into just crazy awesome, and little less into funny, although it still has good funny moments in it. I definitely suggest this comic, especially for anyone who plays DnD. WARNING: Well drawn bloody deaths.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=480#comic)
SMBC is one of those single-panel punchline comics with no plot or characters, much like The Far Side. It has some amazingly funny ones, and a random comic button which is nice. WARNING: Occasional bloody death, sex implications, but no real nudity

Inverloch (http://www.seraph-inn.com/viewcomic.php?page=1)
Inverloch is a story in a fantasy world, involving a race called the Da'kor, which I actually statted for dnd. Not a humor comic, but really well-drawn and with a very good story. No warning, although there is some blood.

LFG (http://www.lfgcomic.com/page/1)
This comic is extremely hilarious. It has nothing to do with MMORPGs or games in which the phrase lfg would be used, but it is in a fantasy setting and starts with an unlikely grouping of people. Has some very funny moments. WARNING: Bloody death, evil out the wazoo.

Misfile (http://www.misfile.com/?page=1)
Amazing comic. Very funny, and an excellent story, well-drawn, great characters, an all-around excellent comic. The plot has progressed excellently from the beginning. I definitely suggest this one. WARNING: sex

Something Positive (http://www.somethingpositive.net/sp12192001.shtml)
Something Positive is a good comic, and very funny although it can be depressing or creepy at times. It makes a good show of life, and has some very funny moments. WARNING: slightly more sex implication, depressing moments, disturbing thoughts.

Ctrl-Alt-Del (http://cad-comic.com/comic.php?d=20021023)
Control-Alt-Delete is a comic about a pair of gamers, in which the first 10 strips or so all break the fourth wall, with them trying to distinguish themselves from all of the other strips about a couple gamers. This comic is amazingly funny, and I definitely suggest it, particularly for people who
play any sort of video game. No warning.

Platinum Grit (http://www.platinumgrit.com/) is another interesting comic. They only update once every 6 months or something, but it's in the form of a substantial episode, and is worth checking up on every now and then.

Does it update anymore, I somehow got it wouldn't? Anyway, it's damn funny but you might note it really isn't for kids. Not only by nudity (once, IIRC) but mainly content. I mean, the hero is a schizphrenic maniac.

Could I mention my own Web Comic?

Cat's Grace (http://www.cayzle.com/grace/gracenew.html) is a photo-comic that features an adventuring liontaur in a D&D world. Very OOTS-inspired.

I'd love to be added to the master list, please. Thanks!

Shamesless promotion of my own comic. Okay, comic is perhaps a bit too much to say. It's actually just a lot of one-picture jokes and gags. I plan to do some multi-panel ones in the future.

Right now there are three "comics" (pictures sounds stupid). "Everyone Likes Pizza... Everyone" "Cats and Walking." and "iBomb". It's not grand-scale pictures or even good art, and I mainly use it as an excuse to draw random stuff.

All the texting (aside from most of the one in iBomb) is done by a guy with the internet alias Andor whom always tells people not to give him credit... silly person.

Oh, the link!

Also, can anyone get into contact with Wukei and kindly ask her to delete her two posts at the beginning of this thread? They're kind of in the way. She seems to have her PM's off in her User CP, because I've tried PMing her before, with no response.

A Journey of the Heart.

the website is geocities.com/sammisammichan

Summary-A dysfunctional party of adventurers departs from the local bar in search of a quest.
Content-Nothing bad, as of yet. Some mild cursing, but that's about all. There could be blood and violence later.
Rating-I am not qualified to rate this webcomic, as it is my own, and as such, I would be biased toward it.

Elsie Hooper (http://elsiehooper.com/comics/comic001.shtml)- It's a black and white sort of horror/action comic set in a small new england town. The monsters in it kind of look like Glooms with eyes. [Strong Violence]

The Site Map (http://sitemap.comicgenesis.com/d/20040601.html)- My own comic. It's got a long, strange story behind it. Not for those easily (or at all) offended by graphic sex, violence, or any mixture of the two. [Sex] [Strong Violence]

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal (http://www.smbc-comics.com/)- Single panel gag strip. Really quite funny. [Naughty Words]

Dresden Codak (http://dresdencodak.com/index.htm) Beautiful art and delightfully odd. The Summer Dream Job (http://dresdencodak.com/cartoons/dc_029.htm) panel is especially good.

Nobody Scores (http://nobodyscores.loosenutstudio.com/) The art isn't as good as DC but it makes up for it with a lovely streak of dark vicious humour. And randomeness.

Culture Shock (http://www.drunkduck.com/Culture_Shock/index.php) Time travelling knights and ninjas.

Punch and Pie (http://www.punchanpie.net/cgi-bin/autokeenlite.cgi) The sequel to Queen of Wands, with art by the dude what does striptease.

Nobody has mentioned Pawn?
http://www.pawn.se/index.html

You should warn that Pawn is not-quite-but-nearly Prawn. Phonetically that is. If you see what I mean. T&A aplenty, and the theme is very naughty. No actual sex scene, but a lot of suggestive ones.

Other comics not on the list:
The Beevnicks (http://www.beevnicks.com/), another comic not for kids. Nudity is unfrequent, but the themes are adult. Sarcastic, often offensive.

Buck Godot, Zapgun for Hire (http://www.studiofoglio.com/cgi/buck.cgi), by Phil Foglio (of Girl Genius fame), a noir space opera with a fat and grumpy detective. Very fun and quite retro.

Chasing the Sunset (http://www.fantasycomic.com/), this one is kid-friendly. Fantasy comic, very cute, about a young elf boy looking for his missing father.

Dresden Codak (http://dresdencodak.com/index.htm), already nominated, but I second it. Nice art, weird storylines, quite high-brow.

Elf Only Inn (http://www.elfonlyinn.net/), about roleplaying on the Internet. First in an IRC chatroom, now in a MMORPG.

Everything you know is right! (http://www.eykir.com/index.htm) Sci-fi comic about a near future in which the Illuminati rule the world, and only cheap tabloids may oppose their rule! People who liked Deus Ex (the action/RPG computer game) will love it.

Faux Pas (http://www.ozfoxes.com/fauxpas.htm). Cutesy for the young'uns. A farm of animal actors.

Full Frontal Nerdity (http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/ffn/ffn.htm). No need to tell you who Aaron Williams is, right? The guy who draws Nodwick. Well, he also draws this.

Metrophor (http://metrophor.org/) and Mixed Myth (http://mixedmyth.comicgenesis.com/). Metrophor is a young comic with a strange setting (a bit like Eberron but weirder). Mixed Myth is the Metrophor's artist's previous comic, and a finished run, with a simpler setting full of fantasy creature. Toward the end, the art is gorgeous.

Nodwick (http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/gamespyarchive/newnodwick.html). It's not on the list? You're joking, right? The misadventures of a henchman carrying treasures and, erm, disarming traps for a small band of high-level adventurers. Has been published in Dragon and Dungeon magazines for a long, long while.

Penny & Aggie (http://www.pennyandaggie.com/). College comic about girl cliques, not the most original theme. But the art is very good, so take a look. (Well, at the time I type this, it's a guest week, so look in the archives.)

Pointless (http://www.pointlesscomic.com/). Very nice. Sci-fi comic, a bunch of competing and backstabbing secret societies are fighting against a quasi-Lovecraftian alien menace. And to push their own agenda, too.

Rice Boy (http://riceboy.jho-tan.com/). Surreal comic with a unique style and theme. Can't easily be put in a genre or described. Take a look for yourself.

Scandal Sheet (http://scandalsheet.comicgenesis.com/). Modern fantasy. A tabloid specialized in articles about yetis, aliens, vampires, and elvises. The thing is, many of the articles are actually true. The world seems quite influenced by White Wolf's World of Darkness. For the young readers, warning, one of the storylines involved the main character becoming a script writer for the porn industry...

The Dreamland Chronicles (http://www.thedreamlandchronicles.com/). Fantasy. A webcomic in CGI! A grown-up gets a souvenir from his childhood back, and starts reliving the dreams he made when he was a little boy. Except time has passed in his dreamworld too... Is it for real?

Wondermark (http://www.wondermark.com/). Victorian illustrations hijacked for surrealistic or anachronistic situations. Very silly.

Yet Another Fantasy Gaming Comic (http://yafgc.shipsinker.com/). The title says it all. But despite this apparent blandness and genericity, it's quite good. Plus, it's updated daily. Occasional nudity, as some creatures like harpies don't wear clothing. (And the YAFGC harpies are rather cute, contrarily to the standard D&D ones.)

Zortic (http://www.zortic.com/), space opera, parodic comic. Like in Melonpool (which is referenced on the list, and has often "crossovered" with Zortic by the way), the main character is a fan of Star Trek...

Post-Nuke Comic: Post Apocalypse Online Graphic Novel (http://www.postnukecomic.com/)

I found this one a couple weeks ago. Really interesting stuff. Not really funny, but I suppose someone would be hard pressed to make a post-apocalyptic world humorous.

Going by the MPAA standards of rating, I'd give this an iffy PG-13.

Also, it has REALLY infrequent posts. It is now 9 days since the last comic was posted. Good stuff, check it out.

Okay, here's a few extra for you all. ^^

B

Blue and Blond (http://www.blueandblond.com/archives/page.001.html)
A surfing webcomic, with a little bit of college drama mixed in. And also some fantasy, such as when the characters accidentally travel into other webcomics through the sewers, along with the Irish Mob.

C

Candi (http://www.candicomics.com/d/20040625.html)
A webcomic about a group of college kids. It has the regular drama one would expect, plus a bit of strangeness (a talking ferret called Menjou, and the squirrel mafia), and it deals with some pretty adult issues. Starts out in B+W, but turns to colour after a while.

F

Faux Pas (http://www.ozfoxes.net/cgi/pl-fp1.cgi?1)
Which is a comic about a fox living on a farm with a whole bunch of other animals. It's written in a newspaper format, and I'd probably call it a drama.

Fox Tails (http://foxtails.comicgenesis.com/d/20041024.html)
The first webcomic I've ever read, it's updating a little slowly now. It's written in an anime/graphic novel style, and while the art isn't much, the kitsune mythology is pretty good for a contemporary setting. I really do think it tries to be a manga.

H

Holy Bibble (http://holybibble.net/latest.php?id=1)
Kinda surprised it wasn't up on the list (unless I missed it). The guys who do this comic basically take verses in the Bible and subtly twist their meaning. The art is simple, but enjoyable. And the content won't make you laugh out loud, but you'll enjoy it more the more you know about the Bible.

P

Penny and Aggie (http://www.pennyandaggie.com/index.php?p=1)
Another college drama one (I love these), this one really is M15+ rated for some of the storylines. Easy to read art style.

Plush and Blood (http://www.plushandblood.com/Comic.php?strip_id=0)
A really weird comic that deals with a world filled with stuffed animals. It's probably best to read the backstory before the comic, since the world is really nicely detailed.

S

The Secret Lives of Mobs (http://www.secretlivesofmobs.com/index.php?strip_id=1)
A really great comic making fun of Warhammer and the upcoming WAR game. Good art, funny jokes. Any fan of MMOs will get this. Not too much in their archives yet, and recently they've branched out to more of a gamer's perspective rather than the game.

Z

The Zombie Hunters (http://thezombiehunters.com/tzh/index.php?strip_id=1)
I love zombie movies and especially government-agency-survivor stories after a zombie plague. So this is just brilliant. The art style is excellent for its genre, and I have a feeling the focus on the group rather than the story will give it a very Whedon-esque style.

marked as spoiler cause of size, and cause its answered and cause it has..spoilers!This list has been helpful in reassembling my lost list of webcomics I read (cause my old computer died and the harddrive was beyond even data recovery..), but theres one..I can't remember the name of and I'm hoping someone will be able to tell me. Its about..well one of the main characters is a tinkerer/inventor and has a device he got from an alien couple his dad was helping, that lets him change the aappearance and gender of himself and others, and there's his friend, who later in the comic is turned into a girl and the device breaks..so unwilling to wait a few days or whatever it was, they break into a museum to use a magic stone that helps him, but creates a clone of him in female form (named Ellen..yay one of the few names I can remember after not having access for awhile..) and another main character is able to turn into a squirrel, the name she usually uses is Grace, and there are others..Nanase was one character. I just hope this is familiar to somebody out there..I love this comic

IMO, Dilbert is not a webcomic. I can see how it could theoretically be considered one because its archives are technically available online (for $34.95 per year). However, the Wikipedia entry on it (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dilbert) makes no mention of its online archives at all (at this time (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Dilbert&oldid=145053557)). The link is simply labeled "Official Dilbert website". The most likely explanation for that oversight is because those online archives are an unimportant afterthought to such a phenomenally successful newpaper comic.

Not really funny, but I suppose someone would be hard pressed to make a post-apocalyptic world humorous.

I point you towards Gone with the Blastwave (http://www.blastwavecomic.com/index.php?p=comic&nro=1)

You don't have:
Candi (http://candicomics.com/d/20040625.html)
Elf Only Inn (http://www.elfonlyinn.net/d/20020523.html)
Elf Only Inn's art improves (somewhat), especially towards the end. But when it improves drastically, it's because the comic changed completely, only leaving some characters unchanged.

The "reboot"? When they moved from the old chatroom to a MMORPG? There's been a several-year hiatus, too. Long enough for the artist's skill to evolve.

Suicide For Hire (http://suicideforhire.comicgenesis.com).
One of my favorite comics. Hunter and Arcturus are highschool pals who ... snap one day, and set up an agency to assist those who wish to shed themselves of their mortal coil prematurely do so.

Now, that may sound bad, but read the comic. It's VERY hard to sympathize with most of their clients, save one. And the methods they use to ensure the suicide is a success is usually ... appropriate for the person's background.

Unicorn Jelly: A sci-fi/fantasy webcomic. I dunno where they get the 'philosophical' part from. I just finished it, and really liked it.

Tales of MU (http://www.talesofmu.com/story/). Okay, it's actually a serialized novel, but the author has described it as "a webcomic without pictures", so it fits. It's the story of an eighteen-year-old girl, Mackenzie Blaise, just starting college at Magesterius University, but in a high-magic world. Mackenzie is, um, unique, and that's all I'll say about her without spoiling anything. Anyway, the writing is top-notch, chock full of interesting characters, a unique but consistent world, geeky references (including at least one shout-out to OotS), hilarious puns and other wordplay, and sexuality and adult themes (at least two characters run around fully nude all the time). For mature audiences. Oh, and some of the ads may be NSFW (at least at the moment they are).
