View Full Version : Half-Wit Now up and running!  Or maybe lurching.

2006-08-30, 10:16 PM
So, I decided to try my own hand at a webcomic. (http://halfwit.smackjeeves.com/)

All feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. *Ducks are also cool.

So, I decided to try my own hand at a webcomic. (http://halfwit.smackjeeves.com/)

So far I have five comics. I don't know if it's any good, but this is what you get when you have a bored nut with access to the internet and Adobe Illustrator.

All feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. Ducks are also cool.

heh quite good I like how they're all dolls (which is like your trademark now of course) but I have to ask why you're going by "Boo" ;)

Oh and here's a duck

2006-08-30, 10:29 PM
Thank you. Maybe I can retire now. And become a duck.

Anyway, I'm going by Boo, because...uh...I dunno. I just do. I use Boo for some other things, too. Because it's the coolest name ever.

And because he's such a cute little hamster.

2006-08-31, 01:53 PM
Go for the eyes! Rrrrraaagggh!
But seriously, its cool Sneak. You are giving me hope that perhaps I too can create a webcomic. I've been thinking about it quite a bit actually.

2006-08-31, 02:02 PM
I like it. It's nifty.

"I am a damsel in distress!"

2006-08-31, 02:19 PM
I'd say go for it, Ear! Er, Face!

And thanks. Right now it's really more of a pet project/hobby than anything else, but who knows. It could grow (although I doubt it).

2006-08-31, 04:26 PM
Okay, I know this is your thread, but lets me just get some advice/thoughts/ego pumping/etc. here first.

I have an idea for a webcomic that is based around a demon. Not a Dnd demon, but a sort of larger impish creature who is a wannabe big evil demon. He is very, very touchy about the whole 'imp' subject. Not to mention a few other details.

Here is a sample banner of my intended style:

2006-08-31, 06:20 PM
Nice. I would get rid of the outlines on the cross-out over the imp, though, and I would also make some of the lines less think.

Anyway, Half-Wit now has nine comics! Hooray!

2006-08-31, 06:55 PM
Nice. I would get rid of the outlines on the cross-out over the imp, though, and I would also make some of the lines less think.

Anyway, Half-Wit now has nine comics! Hooray!

Heh this latest one is great. "Rogaine" *snickers*

2006-08-31, 07:16 PM
Nice. I would get rid of the outlines on the cross-out over the imp, though, and I would also make some of the lines less think.

Anyway, Half-Wit now has nine comics! Hooray!

With a typo like that, it's not very helpful, cuz it could have said either thin or thick.

2006-08-31, 07:25 PM
He definately means thick, and I agree about the cross out.
I am already thinking of an opening comic.

2006-08-31, 07:28 PM
Yes, I did mean thick. And cool, I'll be sure to check out your comic when you do make it.

@Book: Heh. Originally the rogaine strip was going to be a part of the previous comic, but I forgot to put it in and just made it into a full comic.

2006-08-31, 10:12 PM
I have one question. Why were they fighting in the beginning?

2006-08-31, 10:49 PM
If you read the first comic, it should explain it. This part:

"Wanna duel?"

2006-08-31, 11:40 PM
The comic is funny Sneak!! I'll put this one on my "read frequently" list!!

2006-09-01, 01:41 PM
Wow, that's pretty high praise. What other comics do you have on this "read frequently" list? I think my comic is funny, but not THAT great.

Anyway, it's updated.

Saithis Bladewing
2006-09-01, 01:56 PM
It's better than anything I could make, as I can't keep motivation to stay on a project continually. :P

2006-09-01, 04:08 PM

Aye, this is great. Now my Read Frequently list is... wow, 4 comics big.

2006-09-01, 10:08 PM
Wow. Glad to be rated so high as to stand amongst the other titanic Pillars of Webcomichood. O.o

Especially when I only have a few comics done. But thanks, all of you. If my ego didn't get its daily dosage, I would shrivel up and die.

Or something.

2006-09-01, 10:10 PM
We have to keep pumping up your ego to ensure Ego Slayer can't destroy it.

And of course it's ranked high, you're one of the most popular and most humorous people on these boards. ;)

2006-09-01, 10:19 PM
Of course. Because if anyone says it's bad, I'll sic Saithis on them or something.

And Ego Slayer would never destroy my ego. It's too large and puffy.

And Ego Slayer would never destroy my ego. It's too large and puffy.

You have no idea how much I'd like to sig that. ::)

Awesome comic so far Sneaky. Hope you can keep it up. :P

2006-09-01, 10:40 PM
Feel free. I feel quotable.

And yes, I hope I can keep it up. Running out of jokes would not be fun.

Ah, well, if I do, I guess I can just resort to actual plot. Shudder.

Saithis Bladewing
2006-09-01, 10:43 PM
Oh man, if Sneak has to actually be creative and make a plot, we're all screwed!

And I think she can't quote it because her sig appears to be full of other stuff. :P

2006-09-01, 10:54 PM
True dat. On both points.

I'm a good enough writer, but I personally find Drama webcomics boring and unimaginative. My best strength is in my amazing sense of humor.

And my razor-sharp wit.

And my super-art abilities.

And my stunning good looks.

And my...okay, well, we'll stop there.

2006-09-02, 12:29 PM
1. New comic is up. It's not really that funny in my opinion, but it just sort of jumped out at me. Anyway, I've got the next several comics planned out. They should be amusing, although some may be short. Probably at least one or two more will be up by the end of today.

2. 'Nother new comic up. This one I think is a bit better, and I threw in a little Firefly reference for the fun of it.

3. Yet another comic. I like the idea for it, but I'm not sure it turned out too well. Oh, plus another Firefly ref. :D

And sorry for double posting, but I kind of thought that three new comics warranted a new post.

2006-09-02, 12:48 PM
Heh heh heh. I liked that last one, Sneak. Your fast comic creation is making me wish that I had a simpler style. It takes me a while to make a comic.
v: Copy and paste is very very nice... yesss precious...

2006-09-02, 01:18 PM
Once again, another new comic. (http://halfwit.smackjeeves.com/) I'm not really happy with this one, either. Ah, well.

I have a few comics that I really want to use, but I can't just plop them in. One of them may be in the far future (or possibly near), and two of them will definitely be in the near future.

And Earin, yeah: a nice, simple style definitely helps. I can churn out comics quite easily. And I've learned that copy+paste is your friend.

EDIT: Yet another comic.

2006-09-02, 04:58 PM
I'm definitely adding this to the stickied list, Boo- Sneak.

2006-09-02, 09:13 PM
Well, thanks. I'll take that as a compliment. :D

Oh, and a few more new comics are up.

2006-09-03, 10:09 PM
Go Sneak, Go! You can make three comics every day, I know it! ;D

2006-09-04, 01:55 PM
A bunch of new comics up.

As an aside, is anyone here good at making templates? It would be awesome if someone could make edit the template for the site. Post here or PM me if you're interested.

This comic is sweet.

2006-09-04, 05:20 PM
This comic rules, and I read it every update.

2006-09-04, 05:46 PM
Thanks Tgva! Didn't know you were a fan.

Is anybody bothered by the first/last and previous/next buttons? Do you like them? Do they appear separated/on a different line/annoying to you?

I'm in the process of messing around with the template.

EDIT: This is Sneak.

2006-09-04, 09:19 PM
I think they may be a bit too big, but otherwise the satyr makes an interesting button.

2006-09-04, 10:55 PM
fear my widescreen laptop! 1280 x 800 means only 1 line of buttons ;D

2006-09-05, 07:15 AM

I totally need one of those. :D

So, which do you guys like more? OIH (Our Intrepid Heroes) or OPV (Our Pathetic Villains)?

2006-09-05, 07:29 AM

Lord Smiley Face the Horrid is just too cool. I want a doll of him. In real life that is...

But OIH are pretty funny as well. De-corpsifying sword cream...I need me some of that.

Ego Slayer
2006-09-05, 03:55 PM
Awe man, you can't make me pick between the two. The Pathetic Villains are awesome but I love Dex too.. Obviously.

BTW, what comic are you on now? You need to start numbering them. And you don't really need a plot, CAD doesn't have one. :P

Daedrous Avari
2006-09-05, 05:53 PM
I love it!

2006-09-05, 07:04 PM
Oh, the villains rule, definately.
Speaking of which, I need to begin defining the 'villains' in my comic.
((*Cough cough! Yes, I have a comic. No, I am not subliminally suggesting that you read it now!*))

2006-09-06, 06:49 PM
Anyway, it has once again been updated twice. And just so you know, in the next comic, the heroes meet the villains!

2006-09-06, 10:06 PM
This is hilarious! I like the random maimings, and destruction.
Also the smiley bad guy is classic!!!!!
(but then again 5 exclamation points are the sign of a deranged mind...)

2006-09-06, 10:23 PM
Hehe, thanks. I have to say, I personally like the villains more than the heroes, myself. I was actually considering making the villains into the main characters, but I doubt that even I will go that far.

But thanks for the vote of confidence, and yet another vote for Lord Smiley.

2006-09-07, 09:11 AM
Anytime ;D

Although I do have a new addiction now...and it must be satisfied!!

2006-09-07, 11:05 AM
Ok I just read the new one...my habit is satisfied for a time ;D

2006-09-08, 07:59 PM

And just to feed your addiction, the new comic is up.

I have the next few planned out already, so expect them soon to come.

2006-09-09, 11:15 PM
I coulda sworn Darth Vader was the one who got operated on. Or is that part of the joke?

Dang, I'm thick...

2006-09-09, 11:18 PM
Actually... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Darth_Maul#Non-canon_resurrections)

Scroll down a bit and you'll see it next to this picture (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b1/CyborgDarthMaul.jpg) (which is incidentally the one I used as a guide to help me draw Darth Mal). I guess it's a non-canon ressurection, but I thought it was cool and I think Mal makes a pretty good Darth Maul.

2006-09-09, 11:23 PM
Ahh, see, I only watched the movies. I never got into all those comics and stuff about Star Wars. And in the movies, Darth Vader was the only one who had robotic parts.

2006-09-09, 11:30 PM

Actually, I never read the comics either. I just found that and thought it was cool.

2006-09-09, 11:35 PM
Interesting comic. I just read the archives a day or two ago and lo and behold I check again today and there are at least ten more to read!

I think it is getting better.

I hear Peter Seller's voice from Dr. Strangelove as Dr. Fluffykins.

2006-09-10, 09:59 AM
Wow, it just gets better and better!
I also find it hilarious to see the same posters here and there ;D

It's turning into a great comic!

heh...Darth Mal...Heh

2006-09-10, 02:19 PM
Ah, god, this is great. I'm definitely making this one of my dailies...

2006-09-10, 05:34 PM
Yeah, sneak this is in my favourite's, even OotS isn't in there.

2006-09-10, 09:18 PM
That's high praise, Gez. Thank you.

Anyway, there's a guest comic and two new comics up. Scram! Go check 'em out!

That's just one more side effect of hanging around near me for too long.

2006-09-11, 05:24 PM
I need more half wit, there have been no updates for way too long

2006-09-11, 05:25 PM
My God, Gez...will you die from withdrawal if I stop for a week? I put up two last night!

Fine, fine. Off to work. Comic work, that is.

2006-09-11, 05:30 PM
Sneak, you should make Half-Wit shots to inject peole with when they get Withdrawl. Like a random punchline pops into their mind.

2006-09-11, 06:23 PM
Of course, I would have to put nicotine in them to get people addicted to make more money for me.

Anyway, comic has been updated. Plus, I have a question.

How many people would actually be willing to donate money to help me get my own domain set up? This is purely theoretically, remember.

2006-09-11, 07:02 PM
The latest comic should have had a panel with some different guy at the end saying, "Breaking the fourth wall isn't funny anymore!"

Still really funny. A winner is you.

2006-09-11, 07:09 PM
Meh. Technically I didn't really break the fourth wall in that comic.

It still would've been funny to put it in, now that I think back, but it's a little late now. :P

2006-09-11, 10:25 PM
You've got some spelling issues. It should be maCrohard doors, and then battery sLot.

2006-09-11, 10:29 PM
Yeah, I know. I've noticed a few others too. I'm going to change them eventually.

2006-09-11, 10:43 PM
*waits for more*

Now part of my semi-exclusive webcomics favourites list. More, please.

2006-09-11, 10:50 PM

Good comic Sneak.

2006-09-12, 03:36 AM
Well, Sneak, thought you might like to know that this conversation has inspired the title for Wednesday's comic.

2006-09-12, 08:56 AM
My God, Gez...will you die from withdrawal if I stop for a week? I put up two last night!

yes, we will totally die from withdrawal...although I think it would be closer to three days ;D

2006-09-12, 05:21 PM

I am a World of Warcraft and Battle.net player, and l33t-speak is about the stupidest thing ever. I use some things like "lol" or "omg," but other things in l33t-speak have since gone out of control and now it's sometimes faster to type the real thing than what a lot of people are typing. :o

2006-09-13, 04:47 PM
Really. I actually have to THINK to type real leetspeek.

Oh, and comic has been updated.

I don't, you poor sod.

Chatspeak I have to think about though. ::)

2006-09-14, 06:03 AM
At the risk of being the one dissenting voice soon to be viciously silenced, I really don't find it too funny. Are there a lot of in-jokes in it? I got alot of the references, I think, but most of the strips either came across as mundane and actually without jokes, or just as lacking that essential spark that makes me really laugh.

Sorry. I quite like the art though. :)

2006-09-14, 09:30 AM
I didn't think the very first ones were very funny, but they have improved a lot.

Not to mention that with Sneak's prolific output there will be a funny one once in awhile ;D !

2006-09-14, 10:59 AM
Also, why not be supportive of someone's new venture?
They are usually funny, and the artwork is cute :D

2006-09-14, 06:31 PM
Well, Tom, I won't even try to pretend that I can cater to everyone.

Only to those with a sense of humor. :P

All in jest, of course. New comic is up. Or will be in thirty seconds, anyway.

2006-09-17, 12:58 PM
Sorry for the double post, but two new comics are up. I'll also apologize for not getting the comic up on time yesterday, although it's not like anybody cares.

2006-09-17, 06:44 PM
I love a good pun!

When are you going to do a cast page?

2006-09-19, 05:18 PM
One more update.

Anyway, about the cast page...is it really necessary? I think the comic works just fine by itself without a separate cast page, but if it is needed, I'll add it.

Although I'll probably have to put it in as the first comic, seeing as I can't really add a new page in due to my lackluster web skillz.

2006-09-27, 10:24 PM
Hehe! Sneak, if you don't post here then I'll have to bookmark your comic! Jeez!

2006-09-29, 09:33 PM
Awesome comic, dude! You have a great sense of humor. I also like the way you have different fonts for the different characters - I use colors myself, but yours is a lot more interesting. :)

2006-09-29, 11:39 PM
Is it time to start complaining about late updates yet :o ?

Just kidding! Just kidding! Put down those torches and pitch forks if you please!

2006-10-01, 06:54 PM
Heh. I've been pretty busy this weekend.

But it has now been updated! (http://halfwit.smackjeeves.com/comics/)

2006-10-12, 10:19 PM
Sorry for not updating for so long. Check in now, though, I've got a comic up. I've had it planned but haven't gotten enough time to work on a comic. I've been pretty busy lately. Anyway, it's pretty long. I know it can't make up for the lack of updates...but still....

Anyway, thank you all for your patience. I hope I haven't lost my small-enough-already fanbase! >_<

New comic! (http://halfwit.smackjeeves.com/comics/)

Nope, haven't lost this fan yet.

I could *bearly* contain my snickering.

2006-10-15, 12:24 PM
Well, I've added a Cast section. And yes, I know Mal looks a little different. That has an in-comic reason and a RL reason too.

I've been thinking of adding Extra or Fan Art sections...but I don't really have anything to put in there. So.

Anyway, expect a new comic sometime tonight. Or maybe this afternoon if I have time.

EDIT: New comic is up! Not too funny, but necessary for the plot.

Half wit is funny indeed. It does swing around randomly around the place, I am yet to work out exactly in what universe it is set...

2006-10-31, 05:01 PM
Updated again.

Yes, Fuzz is actually a character, not just a one-time gag.

2006-11-05, 12:33 PM
Good, good, keep the great work up.

2006-11-22, 04:08 PM
Thanks, Moechi.

Anyway, I've finally updated again. I've been pretty busy lately (excuses, excuses).

Expect at least one more update today.

2006-11-22, 09:49 PM
Yay!! Half-Wit is back!!

No need to apologise Sneak, worth the wait. It was only a couple of weeks...

2006-12-13, 06:46 PM

I know I have been saying that Half-Wit is discontinued.

But then I realized that my new project would take much more time and effort than I have available right now.

So to feed my ego, sate the hunger of the masses, regain the adulation of the masses, and make it so ZRS won't hurt me in the Heal/Hurt game, I have decided to bring back Half-Wit.

And, as an apology, I decided to make a shiny banner thingy. It really has no purpose, but it looks nice.

In retrospect: I'm really not cut out to be a webcomic artist. Too freaking indecisive and irresponsible. And if you know me, then I really am.
