First of all, find yourself a devastation vermin, whether it be a beetle, scorpion, centipede, or spider. Knock it unconscious and use polymorph any object to turn it into a (still unconscious) humanoid or giant. Now infect it with high-HD lycanthropy via the curse of lycanthropy spell. If your DM rules that CoL can grant entomanthropy (since entomanthropy is insect lycanthropy), infect it with devastation vermin entomanthropy so it can take its original form but with some major boosts. This basically gives the devastation vermin a free awaken effect, and essentially doubles its HD. Best of all, it's dominated and under your control. If you're an illithid savant, you can eat its brain for a nice juicy 259 skill ranks to one skill. If you're a psion with the fusion power at your disposal, you can now fuse with it for some massive skill boosts and the ability to turn into the giant bug or arachnid of your choice (and if the psionic tricks thread is anything to go by, you can follow up with an astral seed to make it permanent). Or you could true mind switch with it if you like.
Note that this can be done with other creatures, as well. "Awaken" a bear by turning it human to give it dire bear lycanthropy, for instance. Or you could give your animal companion wolf-turned-human some dire bat lycanthropy, followed by dispelling the PAO. Now your wolf friend can turn into a dire bat whenever he wants to give him more utility at later levels, so long as he takes ranks in Control Shape.
