So one of the games i'm in is absolute trash, and my pc died so i have to build a new character. Rolled 17/17/17/12/10/7. Going to start level 2. Anyone have any janky fun build ideas? best thing i could come up with is abjuration wiz with a level of warlock for armor of agathys, but if someone has something that would be more fun to play that'd be cool. I have to milk fun out of this game somehow, and it's not coming from compelling story or social interaction, so janky combat stuff is what we're looking for.

Do you have access to UA, DMG variant rules like spell point casting, homebrew, etc?

Not much in the way of options at level 2, how about something going into Rune Mage?
Paladin with some warlock thrown in for invocations and short rest smites?

"No gaming" is better than "bad gaming". Don't stick around in games that aren't fun.

However, if you're going to persist in this folly, convince the DM to let you play a kender.

Naked fistfighter. Variant human tavern brawler twf barbarian. AC18, 27hp, 2x 1d4+4 = 13 damage without rage.

Lucky portent wizard is disruptive.

I have an even better idea.

Lightfoot halfling wild magic sorcerer. Put your 7 in wisdom, and 17s in Cha (for spellcasting), Dex, and Con (in case he tries to kill your character). 10 in intelligence for funny. Congratulations, you now have an unkillable walking ball of magic ADHD.

Have fun.

Janky combat stuff?

How about a Barbarian Shaman

Barbarian 6 Rune Scribe 5

Lets you use spell like abilities of a rune scribe while raging, totally breaking barbarian rage rules.

-Want to cast a melee distance fireball while raging....done
-How about featherfall, while raging....done
-Want to take a totem other then bear totem? Runes can still give you ice/fire resistance to go with you blud/pierce/slashign resistance...done
-How about becoming a sniper of sorts? You can deal damage to anyone you can see with knockback usign runes, Eagle totem can give you 1 mile sight, snipe away.

Lots of janky combos that you just don't see on your average character.

Be the wisdom fighter! With Vhuman, pick magic initiate (shilelagh + magic stones + whatever)
str 13/ dex 7 / con 10 / int 17 / wis 18 / cha 17 with a chain mail and a shield you still have decent AC.
At lvl 4, get +1 int and +1 cha for fun, then +2 wis at lvl 6 (or vice versa)

You could say you're a retired fighter who's lost all his physical stats cause of inactivity but worked on his mind instead.

Play the Swedish Chef from The Muppets. Vhuman so you can take tavern brawler and use TWF: frying pan in one hand, spatula in the other. One level of fighter, the other level wizard so you can get prestidigitation (your food should always taste good). Background should be guild artisan. In combat, you must sing the song and you must pick your targets based on which ones you think would cook up nicely. You should have a meat mallet, cleaver and carving fork as back-up weapons (B,S,P)

Unless the complicated social situation means leaving is not a real option. People can be really stubborn and sometimes you're stuck with being nice to them because they're your co-workers or relatives or such.

Which will hopefully cause the DM to kick you out of the game? :smalltongue: I am not responsible for any damages resulting from this line of action.

See if you can get the Favored Soul Sorcerer. So you can do the Paladin2/Favored SoulX Ultimate Gish build. If not I also like with the Light foot Halfling Wild Magic Sorcerer that was suggested earlier.

Make your own fun. A schizophrenic Old one blade warlock that is convinced that this is all just some BS dream or drug trip, and so doesn't take consequences seriously. "Why aren't you upset about that child murder?" "Maybe I would be if that child were real, but hallucinations can't feel real pain. This is all just some weird game my brain is playing."

Lies...! Why is that people think this?

Anyway, to the op. Play a human barbarian. By level 2 you have GWM and reckless attack. Smashing things is always fun. And given that you play in a combat heavy (as far as I could tell) campaign, with not much roleplaying, this is honestly your best choice. Just smash things, and between battles do what every other manly barbarian does: go to the local tavern and pick a fight! Tavern brawler is a good alternative for GWM in this case.

Or maybe Willie the Groundskeeper.
Vhuman with Tavern Brawler and a shovel, rake, bucket, and sweep for weapons. Barbarian of course. Berserker path when available.
Str 17, Dex 17, Con 17, Int 7, Wis 12, Cha 10; racials+feat to increase str, dex, and con to 18 each.

Play the Swedish Chef from The Muppets.

You could also make him a paladin.

"I smite you with my frying pan of justice!"

Idea. Make him an oathbreaker.

Half-Orc Outlander Bard 2

Str:19
Dex: 17
Con:18
Int: 7
Wis: 10
Cha: 12

Spells: utility and buff spells. Also, sleep. At low levels sleep is so much fun.

Use a ranged weapon until you get medium armor. 4th level just take medium armor master.

But low levels, starting at level 3, sleep a target(s) and then melee attack them for...

3d12+3+ misc damage

Also, use the spell Heat Metal, your DC doesn't really matter for this spell.

VHuman Fighter 1/Rogue 1

STR 18
CON 18
DEX 7
INT 10
WIS 12
CHA 18

TWF Style, Heavy Armor Master, Pirate Background.

Go for Swashbuckler, Expertise in Intimidate and Deception, take Resilient: DEX at Rogue 4.

Eh, he mentioned he was in multiple games. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that a complicated social situation lacking a Gordian knot-style solution isn't the problem so much as succumbing to one or more of the geek social fallacies.

Stealth Wizard.

Take a background that grants you stealth and pump Dex + Int. Hide all the time and use your familiar to deliver touch spells. For extra credit, roll a barrel around. When combat begins, get inside the barrel and seal it. Then use your familiar to deliver touch attacks.

Pretty much.

It just evolves as a neanderthal instead of a ballerina. And resistance saves you from the early bowman fate.

Divination Wizard - "I knew that you knew that I knew that you were going to do that."

Fighter who calls himself an atheist cleric because he doesn't think the Gods are real, refuses healing from clerics claiming they're pushing their religion on him, skeptical about druids and their "natural medicine".

I've made it an art playing clerics (and other classes) who are athiest or agnostic.

When people ask me how that is possible I mention that there are people in the real world who don't believe in global warming, how trashy our oceans are, and that a lot of public drinking water is contaiminated to high hell (US).

Multiclassed bard/rogue played for comedy. Sing this song (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdJg6Duzzf4) any time you're using Stealth and insist that it makes you harder to detect.

I am pretty sure that this character is banned from every fantasy casino! Gaming set proficiency from background recommended, as well as worship of Avandra.

Only when my Aussie friend is drunk, he's a lot more tolerant of fake Aussie accents when he's drunk.
