Gasha Dokuro
The Gasha Dokuro, created from the amassed bones of the dead, takes the form of a colossal human skeleton – becoming active after dusk and praying upon unwary lone travelers, bursting from the ground in a deadly ambush. Having no organs, the Gasha Dokuro cannot actually “eat” its victims; it devours the victims’ souls, and adds them to its gigantic figure that is as impenetrable as a hide of steel.
Grudges of the Hundreds. The Gasha Dokuro is born when hundreds of intelligent beings are killed by the same cause, causing their grieving and suffering souls to cluster into a single mass of malice and enmity for the living. They are most seen near bloodied battlefields, ghost villages devastated by starvation, and wretched sites where countless corpses were abandoned in an epidemic. They carry around magical darkness about them – this being the remnants of its components’ decayed flesh.
The Gasha Dokuro is incapable of speech or sophisticated thought, and has little memory of its myriad “former lives”, if any. The countless mourns and the grief of the deceased souls gather into a massive mass of madness that ravages through the night in eternal pursuit of the living.
Creating a Gasha Dokuro. While almost all of the Gasha Dokuro are born on their own, evil and skilled necromancers can create a Gasha Dokuro by fusing together hundreds of skeletons in a vile ritual. However, the skeletons must have all died from the same cause, be it war, a massive fire, a pandemic, or famine, making it rather difficult to meet its conditions.

An excellent monster. I'm adding it to my list of things to put in my campaign. It just oozes backstory!
