Does anybody know any war games using plastic army men (dollar store variety) as miniatures? I have a fairly large collection of them including hundreds of green soldiers, around ninety tan soldiers, and (mainly green) armor and artillery such as helicopters, jets, missile launchers, cannons, jeeps, tanks, super tanks, bombers, barbed wire etc. I've tried looking online but couldn't find anything. Help?

You could try to proxy them as wh40k pieces :)

Presumably you've looked for modern/WW2 wargames rules (as appropriate to what you have)? Or do you mean specifically for plastic army men (though I'm not sure sort of how that would... work?)

Really depends what sort fo wargame you want. If you want something that involves simulating real-world military tactics and command decisions, there is none finer than Manouvre Group (but it isn't free). It's also a poor choice if you just want to play the sort of game where you have a beer and socialise as muhc as you play, since MG is tacticaly very demanding; not everyone's mcup of tea. So if you fall into the latter category, there are plenty of other games out there. (I'd personally recommend staying well away from Rapid Fire though, unless you intend to play fantasy, not WW2 (it's a bit pants, in my opinion). But that is also the diametric opposite of end of the spectrum from MG and the sort of games I play.)

Perhaps considering asking this question on an appropriate forums on TMP, (The Miniatures Page), which is a large wargaming forum.

There's some of them actually.

Even HG Wells wrote a rule for it.

Just google 'army men war game' and you'll get some.

I can't recommend any because I've never tried any of them.

There's no written rules to it, but a fun little game I play with my niece involves a bag of army men, a few lego buildings and a handful of pennies. The different colors of legos represent 'squares' and each turn you can move your soldiers a total of three squares, with soldiers next to each being considered a squad and can move as one unit.

After you move you can 'shoot' any opposing soldier your soldiers have line of sight to by attempting to flick a penny at them from as close to your soldier's square as you can position yourself. If it hits and falls over, that soldier is dead and removed from the game.

Not sure if anyone else would find it as fun as we do, but it's pretty quick and easy throw together and play; though dextrous fingers are more important than cunning strategy.
