If Banjo had joined the Northern pantheon (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0137.html), Hel wouldn't have been able to tie the vote.

At least, it's the proof that the northern Gods are open minded about puppets.

He would, if he knew there was a Godsmoot.

Also, maybe Hel wouldn't have needed the tie, because Banjo would be on her side (destroying the world) anyway.

My opinion is that Banjo, even as a god, wouldn't have gained free will and would have turned into a McGuffin granting its holder the chance to have it vote at the godsmoot according to his/her will.

What a new, interesting and innovative theory! Not heard that one before.

Incidentally, can someone tell me how to turn text blue?

Banjo would have voted No, but that little son of a sockpuppet Giggles would definitely be on Hel's side, the sneak.

Or, since the story was going to go in this direction anyway, then something else would have forced the tie regardless of Banjo's inclusion, nothing would have changed substantially.

The fun part is, of course, that Thor and Odin actually wanted Banjo to join the pantheon.

Still, the clown would be unreliable at best and dangerous at worst as a divinity. It's a very narrow line dividing Banjo, Giggles, and Banjthulhu, in my opinion.

Not sure if kidding about the second part, but just in case, near the top of the posting box, to the right of size option, you have a colour selector. Just type whatever you want between the color /color tags that pop up.

Wouldn't have mattered whether Banjo was accepted or not, as he would run into the same problem as Hel has had. He would need a high level cleric to get a vote. Elan would need to pick up rather a lot of levels of cleric and more than a couple of points of wisdom for this to work.

I'm on the mobile site, so no options for me!

That line, devoid of any context, sums up my feelings on mobile sites beautifully.

Ah, well there's your problem :smallwink:

The above solution of the colour tags works. Worth noting that you can get it to display the main site instead of the mobile version of you aren't worried too much about data, and giantitp is pretty good about that anyway. The adds are unobtrusive and the site is minimalist enough that so long as you're not going into gif threads or something it uses little data. Couldn't tell you how though. I made the switch months ago and never looked back.

No, he would have needed a high priest. A high priest does not have to have either cleric levels or high wisdom. The problem Hel had was her previous priests getting destroyed by adventurers (rendering them unable to go a Godsmoot as her representative).

Got it.

When I first read this thread, I thought we were talking about High Priestess. A more interesting topic; what would HpoF be kicking herself about atm?

They need to be able to cast summon proxy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots1000.html). Don't know what level spell it is, but definitely above Elan's capabilities for divine magic. I suppose he would get around the wisdom requirement by being a favoured soul though.

Hmm....The gods aren't supposed to intervene directly in the mortal world. So if Banjo were accepted into the Northern Pantheon, he'd have to cease intervening in the mortal world. Since Banjo's interventions amount to "Elan doing stuff", Elan would also have to cease intervening in the mortal world. So Elan wouldn't be with the OotS at that point....

So Nale's revenge plot against Elan doesn't involve the Order of the Stick (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0252.html), so he doesn't threaten Julia (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0337.html), so OotS remains headed for Girard's Gate (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0332.html)....Which means the Order of the Stick isn't present at the Battle for Azure City.

Which means that while OotS is presumably dealing with the Draketooth clan in a probably-less-than-forthright manner (the scenario that prompted Vaarsuvius' consideration of familicide doesn't occur), there's an opportunity for Xykon and Redcloak to show up in the middle of it and beat the crap out of both of them, and open the Gate...prompting the gods to destroy the world before the Snarl gets out of the rift. (Remember, Elan's already gone by the time OotS goes to the Oracle, so his happy ending prophecy (http://www.giantitp.com/comics/oots0331.html) is never on the record)

So, yes, Hel may have been unable to tie the vote...by virtue of the vote leaning strongly towards destroying the world in the first place, assuming a vote was held; she wouldn't require a high priest at the Godsmoot.

Why a high-level spell? It could be a 0-level spell; the gods know their high priests and it just wouldn't work for anyone else. Otherwise they run the risk that if all of their high-level clerics die in a short amount of time* then they'd have no High Priest at all. Or, to flip it, back when the world was created and there were only low-level clerics they would have had no high priests for any god. Both situations seem undesirable and easily avoidable.

* I'm not going into scenarios of 'how' because that would be beside the point.

Back on topic: That priest of Freya isn't at the moot and probably would have no idea what it was about even if he knows about it which isn't likely.

Wow, and I thought it was difficult to understand sarcasm if it was written instead of said

Oh come on, even if it's been said before, it's in itself a pretty neat remark and a wink to OotS-continuity. I get that it can be tiresome to see the same (seriously argued) idea pop over and over, but no need to get that snippy.
