View Full Version : GitP Regulars as Spells

It's time to put on your robe and wizard hat, friend, for you have found the GitP Regulars as Spells thread!

If you want someone to turn you into a frog spell, please give permission in this thread. If you'd like to contribute a spell, please go ahead (but read the rules first)! The list of people who've already given permission can be found below...

This thread is intended to host homebrewed spells inspired by the regular visitors to this forum.

Who is a 'Regular'?
There is no particular prerequisite for someone to count as a regular; if you feel you know someone well enough to 'brew a spell for them, and they've given permission, go right ahead!

You should not 'brew spells for yourself, no matter how regular you are.

What do you mean, 'inspired'?
The idea is that the spell reflects the forum-goer in some way. This could be based on something they've said or done, some aspect of their persona, or simply the content of their forum handle.

Okay, got it. Um, what's a 'spell', again?
Spells are the things D&D characters cast for fun and profit. You can find many examples at the back of your PHB. The spells in this thread are mostly light-hearted and unlikely to be used in an actual game, but it's still a good chance to stretch your homebrewing muscles, so try to make them as balanced as possible.

By the way, there's a formatting template at the bottom of this post if you want to use it.

What's this 'permission' deal I keep hearing about?
You must have permission from the person to whom your spell is dedicated before posting it. If you are happy for people to turn you into a spell, please post your permission in this thread!

You can find a list of people who've given permission, but still don't have a spell to their name, below. There is also an official list of 5e perma-permissions here (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?495364-The-Permapermission-Thread-For-5E); you may refer back to that if you wish.

JNAProductions' Moment of Inspiration
1st-level enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You gain a sudden burst of creative energy that allows you to produce artworks at a furious pace. While under the influence of this spell, you can produce in 1 minute the same volume of work that would normally take you 8 hours.
This spell only applies to creative work, such as writing, composing, painting or designing.

LaZodiac’s Scathing Critique
1st-level enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Components: V
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You ruthlessly critique the performance of one humanoid who can hear you within range (they do not need to be able to understand you). They must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d8 psychic damage and, if they performed an action during their previous turn, they are too embarrassed to use that action again for the duration of the spell. If they used the Cast a Spell action, they are only prevented from casting that specific spell; they can still cast others. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage and may act as normal.

Shining Wrath’s Burning Radiance
3rd-level evocation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (15-foot radius)
Components: V, S, M (a handful of glitter)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

You surround yourself with shimmering embers. They flit around you to a distance of 15 feet for the duration, flaring up into angry flames whenever a hostile creature comes near.
When you cast this spell, you can designate any number of creatures you can see to be unaffected by it. An affected creature is blinded as long as it remains in the area, and when the creature enters the area for the first time on a turn or starts its turn there, it must make a Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 3d8 fire damage. On a successful save, the creature takes half as much damage.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the damage increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 3rd.

Shining Wrath’s Illumination
1st-level divination

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous

You instantly learn the correct answer to one factual question, puzzle or riddle, if such an answer exists.
This spell cannot be used to gain information that is hidden or kept secret, though if such knowledge is required to answer the question the spell makes you aware of that requirement.

TurboGhast’s Augment Undead
3rd-level necromancy

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a black onyx stone worth at least 100gp)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You bolster friendly undead creatures with dark magic. Choose any number of non-hostile undead that you can see within range, whose combined CR is less than or equal to 1. For the duration of the spell, they have advantage on all saving throws, their movement speed is doubled and they regenerate 1d4+1 hit points at the start of their turns.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 4th level or higher, you can target an additional 1 CR-worth of undead for each slot level above 3rd. For example, if you cast this spell at 5th level, you could target one CR3 wight, or three CR1 ghouls.

I want my spell to be Douche's aura of Douchiness. It causes your collar to instantly pop and become unable to be lowered for an 8 hour duration. Also people dislike you for no reason. I guess you could cast it on other people too.

Douche's Popped Collar of Antagonism? Douche's Aura of Antipathy? Yeah, I can work with that.

Douche's Aura of Antipathy
3rd-level enchantment

Casting Time 1 action
Range Self (30-foot radius)
Components V, S, M (a polo shirt worth at least 10gp)
Duration Concentration, up to 1 minute

You pop the collar on your shirt and hurl insults at everyone around you. All creatures, including your friends and allies, feel an intense urge to avoid you for the duration of the spell. Any creature that moves within 30 feet of you or starts its turn within that radius must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature must spend all of its remaining movement moving as far away from you as possible, though it will avoid difficult or hazardous terrain as it does so. If a creature that failed its save ends its turn within 30 feet of you, it is so disconcerted by your presence that all attack rolls against it have advantage until it is no longer within 30 feet of you.

EvilAnagram's Puzzle of Pain
3rd-level abjuration

Casting Time 1 action.
Range Touch
Components V, S, M (a tome worth at least 25gp)
Duration Until dispelled

You touch a closed door, window, gate, chest, or other entryway, and it becomes locked for the duration as per the Arcane Lock spell. You must also set a password that, when spoken within 5 feet of the object, suppresses this spell for 1 minute. This spell then causes a cryptic puzzle, anagram or riddle to appear on the locked object, which can be solved to reveal the password if a creature succeeds on an Intelligence check against your spellcasting DC. You can choose which language or code this puzzle is presented in; a creature attempting to solve it must be able to read and understand that language or code. Whenever a creature fails this check or provides an incorrect password, it takes 4d6 psychic damage.

EvilAnagram's Sinister Misspelling
6th-level evocation

Casting Time 1 reaction, when you see a creature within 90 feet of you casting a spell.
Range 90 feet
Components V
Duration Instantaneous

You attempt to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell. If the creature is casting a spell of 6th level or lower, you can add, remove or change up to two letters from the spell's name in order to change its effect. For example, you could change a Fly spell into a Fry spell, which might deal fire damage to the target, or a Flee spell that causes them to become frightened. The new effect is determined by the DM; it should be roughly equivalent in power to the slot level used to cast the original spell, and uses the original caster's spellcasting ability to determine any attack bonus or save DC that might be appropriate. If the original caster is casting a spell of 7th level or a higher, make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 10 + the spell's level. On a success you may modify the spell as if it were 6th level or lower.

At higher levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, the interrupted spell can be changed without requiring a check as long as its level is less than or equal to the level of the spell slot you used.

That actually made me laugh quite hard, while at work  Good thing no one noticed

Now I'm imagining it would be great as a tanking type spell, if instead of being a de facto fear effect, it'd be a Jersey Shore-esque "Come at me bro" and cause creatures to be forced into fighting you rather than your team mates.

Btw, I've never popped my collar or been to the Jersey Shore, so please don't think of me as that character IRL :smalltongue:

Socratov's Legendary Libation
Conjuration cantrip

Casting Time 1 bonus action
Range Self
Components V, M (a container for liquids, such as a mug, tankard or flask, which is filled by the spell)
Duration Instantaneous

You speak a word of power and your container fills with a drink of your choosing, which can be imbibed as an action. The drink is delicious and satisfies the drinker's thirst for the next 24 hours. Ralanr's Raging Rampage
6th level Conjuration

Casting Time: 10 minutes OR 1 action
Range: 10ft
Components: V,S,M (Barrel of Grog worth no more than 3 gold)
Duration: Instantaneous

When cast, this spell summons a mighty half orcish barbarian (10th level) who immediately attacks any enemy you choose. Once he has made that attack, however, he becomes an NPC with his own agenda and may fight for you, against you, or simply walk away. He is initially predisposed toward you if you cast the spell as an action, but if you spend 10 minutes sharing the barrel of grog material component he remains a steadfast friend until you bogart the last turkey leg.

At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th level or higher, Ralanr's Raging Rampage summons two additional barbarians. However the material component cost increases by an additional barrel of grog per level, and the maximum value of each barrel is reduced by 5 silver.

Hmm. What do druids drink? I'm imagining crystal-clear springwater and chamomile tea. Well, there's no reason you can't use the spell to get those, and the word 'libation' gives it a divine feel anyway. Yeah, I'd let druids use it as-is.

Aistarkhios' Arcing Spark
4th-level evocation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Components: V, S, M (a silver pin)
Duration: Instantaneous

You create a flash of lightning that arcs toward a target of your choice that you can see within range. Two bolts then leap from that target to as many as two other targets, each of which must be within 20 feet of the first target. A target can be a creature or an object and can be targeted by only one of the bolts.
A target must make a Dexterity saving throw. taking 4d10 lightning damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, one additional bolt leaps from the first target to another target for every two slot levels above 4th.

DracoKnight's Permanent Bond
8th-level enchantment (ritual)

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: Until dispelled

You touch a dragon that is at least one size category larger than you are, attempting to bond with it. It must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be permanently charmed by you, regarding you as if you were part of its family (which may or may not be a good thing). If you or creatures that are friendly to you are fighting it, it has advantage on the saving throw. A willing dragon may choose to fail the saving throw.
While the dragon is charmed, it is bound to serve you as a mount in battle, which it does to the best of its ability. You also have a telepathic link with it as long as the two of you are on the same plane of existence and as long as both of you are conscious, each of you can use this telepathic link to communicate with the other.
The dragon knows that it is charmed by you and retains its personality and alignment while under the effects of this spell; for example, a good dragon might refuse to use its breath weapon on innocent civilians. The DM has the dragon's statistics.
This spell ends if either party dies or if you attempt to bond with a different dragon.

The feast has enough food to continuously feed everyone present. For the duration, a person you touch who is singing, sings in 4 part harmony [SATB]. Alternatively, a person who is speaking gains a reverberation effect, emulating the stereotypical "voice of God". All dragon types do 2d6 damage. The breath weapon will recharge on a roll of 4, 5, or 6. The recharge roll is made at the end of the target creature's turn. Do not roll at the end of a turn where the breath weapon was used. If the breath weapon is available it may be used to make attacks of opportunity as a reaction.

Higher level spell slots: Casting khadgar567's Breath of the Dragon with a 5th level slot increases the damage to 3d6, and increases the length of the cone to 20', or the length of the line to 40'. Using a 7th level slot increases damage to 4d6, and increases the length of the cone to 25', or the length of the line to 50'. Using a 9th level slot increases damage to 5d6, and increases the length of the cone to 30', or the length of the line to 60'.

A couple more ideas:

AmbientRaven's Beady Eye
1st-level divination

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Components: S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You attempt to forge a bond with tiny birds in your vicinity. Target a tiny beast with a flight speed that you can see within range. For the duration of the spell, you can see through it eyes, though while you are doing so you are unable to use your own eyes. As a bonus action, you can switch back to your own eyes, or to those of any other valid target within 90 feet of you. You cannot control the target in any way, though you can still control your own body while looking through another creature's eyes. You have disadvantage on attack rolls, Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws while using another creature's eyes.
If a creature whose eyes you are using moves more than 90 feet away from you, your vision automatically reverts to your own eyes, though the spell remains active and can be switched to another beast as normal.

AmbientRaven's Feathered Haunting
1st-level enchantment

Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: Self
Components: V, S, M (a raven's feather)
Duration: 8 hours

You place an eldritch charm upon yourself, which attracts ravens and crows to you. For the duration of the spell, whenever you look around you, there will be at least one black-winged bird within your field of view, even if there would not normally be any such birds in your current location. These birds are magically compelled to stay close to you and cannot be frightened away by any means short of an Antipathy spell.

DracoKnight's Impeccable Presentation
1st-level illusion

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a writing implement)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour

When cast upon a forged or otherwise falsified document, this spell causes the document to take on the appearance of a genuine, official document. For the duration of the spell it is impossible to detect the forgery by mundane means, but any creature that can see through illusions will perceive the true document and may or may not detect the forgery depending upon the skill of the forger.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the duration becomes 8 hours and does not require concentration. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 5th level or higher, the duration becomes 'permanent, until dispelled'.

Peelee

Peelee's Bardic Bonus
Illusion Cantrip
Casting Time: bonus action
Range: touch
Components: S, special
Duration: one minute (concentration)

For the duration, a person you touch who is singing, sings in 4 part harmony [SATB]. Alternatively, a person who is speaking gains a reverberation effect, emulating the stereotypical "voice of God". This may enhance the quality of a performance, giving the performer advantage on a roll at the DM's option.

...so it Zoidbergs singers, and epics speakers? Best spell EVER!

There's no need for that - in fact, I believe these threads would lose what meaning they have if they were removed from their current context.

And thanks for that, Snowbluff. People seem to think I'm a 'regular', but I haven't been around nearly long enough to know that kind of forum lore. I'll update the OP.

I think it's about time we got some high-level spells in here, don't you...?

OK, ninja_prawn, spell me out. I'd probably be a bardic spell, taught by the college of Lore....

Okay, here goes!

Regitnui's Original History
9th-level enchantment

Casting Time 1 minute
Range Touch
Components S, M (an exotic ink containing gold dust worth at least 1,000 gp, which the spell consumes)
Duration 10 days

You write on parchment, paper or some other suitable writing material and imbue it with a potent enchantment that lasts for the duration. The text must concern events that happened in the last 10 days and lasted no longer than 24 hours.
Any creature that reads and understands the text must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the reader's memory of the events you wrote about is modified to match what you wrote - they recall the details you write with perfect clarity for the rest of their natural lives. If the reader did not witness the events first-hand, they instead gain a memory of being told about the events (as per your original text) by a second-hand source that they trust completely. You can eliminate memories of events by writing that they did not happen; the reader rationalises any inconsistencies that may arise from their changed memory.
A modified memory doesn’t necessarily affect how a creature behaves, particularly if the memory contradicts the creature’s natural inclinations, alignment, or beliefs. An illogical modified memory, such as implanting a memory of how much the creature enjoyed dousing itself in acid, is dismissed, perhaps as a bad dream. The DM might deem a modified memory too nonsensical to affect a creature in a significant manner.
Should the spell be dispelled, the entire text disappears.
A Greater Restoration or Wish spell cast on someone who has been affected by this spell restores that creature’s true memory.

You can re-write history!

This may seem weak for a 9th-level spell, but I don't see how it can be anything else, given that it could potentially affect hundreds or even thousands of targets.

Does allowing Greater Restoration to overcome this spell mitigate its power too much?

Also, not sure about the school. The core of it is based on Modify Memory (an enchantment), but it's got shades of Illusory Script (illusion) and Glyph of Warding (abjuration) in there too.
Oh, and before I forget, I did one for Segev in this post (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showsinglepost.php?p=20604280&postcount=2)...

Segev's Deceptive Duplicate
3rd-level illusion

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a bit of fleece encased in gum arabic)
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

Choose a medium or smaller object you can see within range. When you cast this spell, the object becomes invisible and an illusory duplicate appears in its place. The double is purely visual; it isn't accompanied by sound, smell, or other sensory effects.
You can use your action to cause the double to move to any spot within range. As the double changes location, you can alter its appearance so that its movements appear natural for it. For example, if you create a double of a pile of bones, you can make it appear to rise as a skeleton and then move it, altering the image as it goes so that it appears to be walking.
Physical interaction with the double reveals it to be an illusion, because things can pass through it. A creature that uses its action to examine the double can determine that it is an illusion with a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC. If a creature discerns the illusion for what it is, the double becomes faint and translucent for it, but the original is not revealed.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 6th level or higher, you may target a medium or smaller creature instead of an object. An unwilling creature may make a Wisdom saving throw to resist the effect. When cast on a creature, the double lasts for the duration, but the invisibility ends if the creature attacks or casts a spell.

You're awesome, Ninja_Prawn! I salute you! *bows and clacks fingers like pincers*

I'm going to have so much fun implying to my players that this spell exists in Eberron, with the widely-distributed Korranberg Chronicle coincidentally being operated near the home enclave of House Sivis, the sneaky gnomes...

I think, since it's a greatly-empowered modify memory, it should belong in the same school. It might even be psionic, but you can say that about any mental spell.

Per the forum rules, that thread died. Personally, I feel like the 5e subforum doesn't have enough regulars to sustain these threads for long; and as Socratov said, there needs to be more random banter on the side to hold people's interest.

We could start a 'Regulars as Subclasses II' thread, but I don't know how many people are even left who might want a subclass. Alternatively, we could make some kind of 'master' thread for all the 5e 'GitP Regulars as X' threads, where people could banter about and spawn other threads. I'm not really up for running that myself; spells are enough for me. But I do feel that that sort of project would be good for building a proper community here.

Or we could ask the mods for help. I've never really interacted with the mods in that way and I don't know what they could really do for us, but it might be an avenue to pursue.

I did, though my focus in that thread was on avoiding making it as just a new spell. I had, I admit, forgotten about it (and that thread) until I saw your post here. It is a nice spell, and deserves thanks for the effort. It just wasn't quite what I was hoping to achieve in that other thread. Still, given the failure to achieve something workable in that one, it probably is the best solution.

Beleriphon's Cerebral Transplant
9th-level necromancy

Casting Time: 1 hour
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (two ornamental jars, each worth at least 5,000 gp)
Duration: Permanent

Choose two creatures that you can see within range. While performing a magical rite, you extract the brains (or equivalent organs) from both creatures, swap them over, and re-insert them, giving each creature control of the other's body.
A creature may only be targeted by this spell if it is alive and either willing or incapacitated for the duration of the casting time. Casting this spell counts as a harmful action and therefore would break a Charm Person spell if you had previously cast it on one of the targets. Constructs, elementals, oozes, plants and undead cannot be affected by this spell. Furthermore, the targets must be within two size categories of each other for the spell to succeed.
After the spell is complete, both targets replace most of their game statistics with those of their new body. Creatures' brains retain their mental ability scores, class levels and features (except for HP), memories, alignment and personality. Innate abilities such as innate spellcasting, psionics, telepathy and multiattack also move with the brains, while other abilities stay with the bodies. Thus, if the brains of a githzerai monk and a housecat were swapped, the githzerai brain would still be able to use its innate psionics, psychic defense and multiattack while in the body of the cat. It would also gain the cat's keen smell ability.
Brains can be transplanted by this spell any number of times, including back to their original bodies. Furthermore, this spell can be undone by a Wish.

Gfishfunk's Prismatic Wave
8th level conjuration
Casters: Wizard
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (A drop of water)
Duration: Instantaneous
You conjure a multicolored tidal wave that covers an area in range. The area can up up to 35 ft long, 15 ft wide, and 15 ft tall. Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw. Creatures in the area take 4d8 bludgeoning damage and are knocked prone on a failed save. They half as much damage and aren't knocked prone on a successful one.
Each creature in the area rolls a d8 to determine what color of the wave affects them further.
1. Red. 5d6 fire damage on a failed save, half as much on a successful one. Being underwater does not grant resistance to this fire damage.
2. Orange. 5d6 acid damage on a failed save, half as much on a successful one.
3. Yellow. 5d6 lightning damage on a failed save, half as much on a successful one.
4. Green. 5d6 poison damage on a failed save, half as much on a successful one.
5. Blue. 5d6 cold damage on a failed save, half as much on a successful one.
6. Indigo. On a failed save, ice forms around the creature and restrains it. It may make on a Strength saving throw at the end of each of its turns in order to try to escape. If it saves twice, takes 15 or more bludgeoning or fire damage in a single hit, or a minute passes, the ice shatters or melts, and the effect ends. The successes don't need to be consecutive in order for them to allow a creature to escape.
7. Violet. On a failed save, violet ink covers the target's eyes, blinding it. It may make a Constitution saving throw on the end of each of its turns in order to end this effect. The ink clears out after five rounds.
8. Special. Two splashes of color affect the target. Roll twice more, rerolling additional 8s.
The water then spreads across the ground in all directions, extinguishing unprotected and flames within its area and within 30 feet of it. The water is normal water after the spell's effect, except for its unusual color.

Components: V, S, M (a tome worth at least 100gp, which the spell consumes)
Duration: Instantaneous

Penned by a researcher whose origins have been long lost to time, this spell informs the caster of the nature of things that probably don't exist. Describe the means of a hypothetical creature's creation. If the caster has reason to believe that such a thing already exists, the spell fails. Otherwise, the text from the tomes used to cast this spell rearrange themselves into a lengthy discourse describing the name, abilities, nature, general habits, impact on the world, and usual interactions with society of the creature described this way, providing advantage on any intelligence checks relating to those creatures to any who read the book from cover to cover (a process taking 8 hours). However, this transformation has a curious side effect: Should one take their eyes off the tome for any lengthy period of time, it mysteriously vanishes, and cannot be found again without a DC 20 Perception check in the area the book was last seen. Some revelations are not meant for the world at large, it seems.

Sorry about that and thanks for the retroactive permission. It was in the wild, unregulated 'early days' of the thread. :smallfrown: To wit...

Fable Wright's Free For All Fightstravaganza
7th-level Enchantment

Casting Time: 1 minute
Range/Area of effect: a sphere with radius 50', centered on self
Components: V, S, M (diamonds worth 500 GP, consumed by the spell)
Duration: Concentration up to 1 hour

When this spell is cast the caster will be enveloped with an immovable Otiluke's Resillient Sphere while veryone within range becomes overcome with a deep sense of hatred and contempt for another. This is a Mind Affecting Effect. Each affected entity must make a wisdom save. Good entities make this save with disadvantage, evil entities make the save with advantage. On a failed save the user is affected as by the Confusion spell, and starts attacking the nearest entity, forced to taking offensive actions without regard for its life. On a successful save the entity is unaffected by the spell. The results fo this spell can't trigger a Geas effect or make people lose their class gained abilities. When teh spell ends the affected entities fall unconscious for one round and when awaking they will feel as if they had an expecially violent dream.

Well, Jay R, before you condemn the practice of asking for permission beforehand, this used to be the line of thought, however, after some stuff in the past with the 3.5 regular's threads, Roland imposed the rule that it was fine as long as people expressly gave permission. apparently not everyone was flattered by the regualrs as X threads as much as they'd hoped and apparently some were even a bit miffed about that...

I don't think I "condemned" the practice of asking permission. I have no problem with asking permission. It's always gracious and polite (at least when it's a polite gesture, rather than merely following a rule).

I only spoke against (not "condemned") the logic behind demanding it.

I do think the logic requiring somebody to ask permission to use my name to speak well of me, when they don't need permission to use it to speak against me or my ideas, is kind of silly.

Two people in this thread have used my name: Socratov, to accuse me of using condemning language, and 2D8HP, to praise me. It's silly (at best) to expect the negative one to be accepted (as we all do, including me) but to disapprove of the positive one.

But if that's the rule, then that's the rule, illogical or not. So I will repeat the conclusion and real point of my earlier post:

"Yes, you also have my permission to use my name to compliment me."

a. Satire (which is protected speech anyway), or
b. praise.

Hi, I'm not a regular but I'd like to contribute with a spell I had in my mind, I'm not sure if it is balanced:

Ciffo's bolster of physic
4th level Abjuration
Casting Time: Special OR 1 action
Components: V, S
Duration: 5 minutes

You take one law of the physic (that was in a corner crying) and make it stronger: any spell casted or that pass through an area of 30 feet from the caster that defy that particular law of physic has a 50% chance to fail. You have to state what law of physic you make stronger. It can't be casted with subtle spell feat. It works also for buff already active (example: fly)

At higher level: Ciffo's major bolster of physic: the same spell, only the change of the spell to fail is 90% (7th level?)

Example: enemy cast fireball, to avoid it you can make stronger "energy can't be created from nothing" or "thermal energy can't be created from nothing": in the first case any magic that create energy can fail, for example chain lightning: that same spell wouldn't be effected in the second case (because it isn't thermal energy)

Duration: 90 minutes

When cast, this spell gives the caster the exact percentage odds of any action planned within the next 90 minutes.
will also in that time period bless/curse the caster with the singing voice of Chuck Norris.
If during the duration of the spell the caster sings the complete lyrics to "The Battle of Evermore" (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lnYQkGeTAOU), than every women within 1d4 miles becomes pregnant.

You know that you're supposed to write spells for other people, right?

On the actual spell, it's basically a combination of Counterspell and Dispel Magic, but that lasts for 5 minutes and has a chance of failure. I would change the casting time to '1 action or 1 reaction, when you see someone casting a spell'. Its range should be 'self (30-foot radius)'. It should be a concentration spell.

I'd change the failure chance to the 'any spell of 4th level or lower fails; otherwise make an ability check against 10+spell level' (or maybe have the other caster make a check against your spell save DC). Then at higher levels the cutoff is raised to suit. That's the 5e way of doing things.

@2D8HP: It's spelled augury. :smalltongue:

Duration: instantaneous

When cast upon a pile of raw materials this spell creates a device able to derail the current situation in such a way as to cause gnomes to be banned for 1d6 sessions. Easy_Lee's Re-Balanced Weapon

Range: Touch
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour

Easy_Lee's Relaxing Meditation
Enchantment cantrip

Casting Time: 10 minutes

Hey, thanks. I liked your spells.

As for inane babbling, I'd do it something like this:

Easy Lee's Inane Babbling
Range: 100
Duration: 1 minute

The target creature can't stop talking, but the words don't make sense. The creature chooses the language of its babbling, if any. This spell has no effect against targets with an Intelligence of 4 or less, or who lack vocal chords.

For the duration, effects which cause suffocation, such as drowning, take half their normal length on the creature. Spells with a verbal component fail when cast by the creature. The creature's skill checks requiring speech are made at disadvantage.

At the beginning of its turn, or whenever it casts a spell, the target may make a Wisdom or Intelligence saving throw to just shut up and move on with its life, ending the spell.

Twelvetrees

I, uh, totally noticed this thread before. Here, look, I've already made something!

Grod's Logic and Reason
7th-level divination

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 60 feet
Components: V
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You assail a foe with a barrage of well-reasoned assertions on the errors in its existence. Choose a creature that can hear you within range. The target must succeed on a Intelligence saving throw or take 5d12 psychic damage and be stunned for the duration. At the end of each of its turns, the target can make another Intelligence saving throw. On a success, the spell ends on the target.
...At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 8th level or higher, the damage increases by 2d12 for each slot level above 7th.

Go ahead and give me balance advice on this, forumites. I'm not certain where it's at right now, but I do realize divination is a weird school for an attack spell.

Also, permission granted.

I think it's about right. 5d12 is 32.5 damage - not much for a 7th level spell (Finger of Death is 61.5; Symbol of Death is 55 against multiple targets), but stunned is a painful condition and intelligence is an unusual save, so it's probably fine.

Given how similar the mechanism is to Vicious Mockery, I'd probably make it an enchantment.

Casting Time: 1 minute

It obeys any verbal commands that you issue to it (no action required by you). If you don’t issue any commands to the elemental, it defends itself from hostile creatures but otherwise takes no actions.
If your concentration is broken, the elemental doesn’t disappear. Instead, you lose control of the elemental, it becomes hostile toward you and your companions, and it might attack. An uncontrolled elemental can’t be dismissed by you, and it disappears 1 hour after you summoned it.
The DM has the elemental’s statistics.

Heh, I like it.

Ok, this probably isn't balanced at all. I'm guessing 7th level, but may be higher. And I'm not sure if the creatures in it are even balanced to each other, but I tried to make creatures with more powers do less damage. Anyways, here goes:

TwelveTrees' Tyrannical Treants

7th-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 minute
Range: 90 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 hour

You summon one of the twelve treant lords, which appears in an unoccupied space that you can see within range. The treant disappears when it drops to 0 hit points or when the spell ends.

The treant is friendly to you and your companions for the duration. Roll initiative for the treant, which has its own turns. It obeys any verbal commands that you issue to it (no action required by you), as long as they don’t violate its alignment. If you don’t issue any commands to the treant, it defends itself from hostile creatures but otherwise takes no actions.

All of these Treants have the same statistics as a normal treant, except where noted.

When you cast this spell, roll a 1d12 to determine which Treant Tyrant is summoned:

1: The Ashbrittle Yew - Yew. The Ashbrittle Yew is capable of quickly growing back, and can regenerates 10 hit points every round unless it takes fire damage. It dies when it is at zero hit points and doesn't regenerate.

2: General Sherman - Sequoia. The greatest volume of all the treant tyrants at 52,500 cubic feet, this treant is gargantuan in size; its Hit Points are 186 (12d20+60), its slam has a reach of 15' and deals 4d6+6 damage. It has greater natural armor, giving it an AC of 18. It is not vulnerable to fire.

3: The Spirit of Ténéré - Acacia. This treant has passed away, but it's spirit remains to fight on. It is only Large in size; but was extremely durable. It has a Con score of 30 (+10), and its Hit Points are 186 (12d10+120). It has Damage Resistances: acid, fire, lightning, thunder; bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing from non magical weapons. Damage Immunities: cold, necrotic, poison. Condition Immunities: charmed, exhaustion, frightened, grappled, paralyzed, petrified, poisoned, prone, restrained. It can see 60' into the ethereal plane when it's on the material plane and vice versa; and it can move through other creatures' and objects' spaces as if it were difficult terrain (it takes 1d10 force damage if it ends its turn inside another creature's space). Its slam attack deals 2d6+6 necrotic damage and it does not have a ranged attack.

4: Jaya Sri Maha Brodi - Fig. This holy treant deals radiant damage instead of bludgeoning damage, and it is immune to necrotic damage.

5: Major Oak - Oak. Major Oak can rapid fire acorns, dealing 8d6 bludgeoning damage to every creature in a 20 foot radius (DC 16 reflex for half). This ability has a 150 foot range, and recharges on a 5-6.

6: Sunland Baobab - Baobab. This treant is hollow and can keep up to 10 large or smaller creatures inside for safe keeping. While inside, there is food and drink which acts as a Heroes Feast (per the spell). Creatures inside have their own air supply and are immune from damage from anyone outside the treant. This treant cannot do as much damage as a normal treant, only doing 2d6+6 per round.

7: Hyperion - Coast Redwood. The tallest of all the Treant Tyrants at 380 feet tall, Hyperion is gargantuan in size; its Hit Points are 186 (12d20+60), its slam has a reach of 30' and deals 4d6+6 damage. It's range attack is doubled in distance and deals 5d10+6 bludgeoning damage. It is not vulnerable to fire damage.

8: The Hangman's Elm - Elm. This treant has a reach of 15 feet. A creature hit by the Hangman's Elm must make a DC 16 Dexterity Check or be grappled and "hung" by the tree, taking 3d6+6 bludgeoning damage every round (the creature has the grappled condition, but the treant does not). If the treant takes 15 or more damage to the "hanging" branch, it drops the creature.

9: Methuselah - Bristlecone Pine. The most ancient and wise of the treant tyrants, Methuselah has a wisdom score of 18 and has natural spellcasting using wisdom as its casting modifier with the following spells known (DC 16, +8):

Cantrips (at will): druidcraft, mending, thorn whip
1st level (4 slots): entangle, longstrider, speak with animals, thunderwave
2nd level (3 slots): animal messenger, gust of wind, lesser restoration, Spike Growth
3rd Level (3 slots): Dispel Magic, Plant Growth, Protection from Elements, Speak with Plants
4th Level (2 slots): Freedom of Movement, Grasping Vine
5th Level (1 Slot): Tree Stride

10: Old Tjikko - Norway Spruce. Only older than Methuselah on a technicality, Old Tjikko is a colony of trees with a single mind, capable of cloning itself. Old Tjikko has five heads. While it has more than one head, Old Tjikko has advantage on saving throws against being blinded, charmed, deafened, frightened, stunned, and knocked unconscious.

Whenever Old Tjikko takes 25 or more damage in a single turn, one of its heads dies. If all its heads die, Old Tjikko dies.

At the end of its turn, it grows two heads for each of its heads that died since its last turn, unless it has taken fire damage since its last turn. Old Tjikko regains 10 hit points for each head regrown in this way.

Old Tjikko has reduced damage, and only deals 1d6+6 damage per attack. Its Multiattack can make three attacks per round.

11: El Arbol del Tul - Montezuma Bald Cypress. The widest of all the treant tyrants, El Arbol del Tul is 120 feet around at its trunk. It's gargantuan in size; its Hit Points are 186 (12d20+60), its slam has a reach of 15' and deals 4d6+6 damage. Its sap has curative properties, and using it is treated as the restoration spell.

12: Thimmamma Marrimanu - Banyan. This treant has the largest canopy of all the Treant Tyrants - some believe its branches reach as far as five acres! It is gargantuan in size, and has 186 (12d20+60) hit points. It can attack anyone under its canopy, dealing 2d6+6 bludgeoning damage. Its Multiattack can make 5 attacks per round.

Tentacle Supris
6th-level Conjuration

Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: 30ft
Components: V, S, M (a tentacle-inscribed gem worth at least 1,000 gp which the spell consumes)
Duration: Instantaneous

You bring forth a mass of tentacles, towels, and sturdy yet cushioned tables. The tentacles are well-mannered and skilled masseurs, and offer to work their magic on anyone within range. The massage takes 1 hour to complete, and the tentacles disappear at the end of their hour. Up to 12 other creatures can partake of the tentacles' service.

A creature that partakes gains several benefits. The creature is cured of all exhaustion and petrification and regains one half of its expended hit dice, as though the creature had completed a long rest (though all other benefits of a long rest, including restoration of hit points, are not gained). Additionally, for 24 hours after receiving the massage, the creature becomes immune to the charmed and restrained conditions, and makes all Reflex saving throws with advantage.

Twelvetrees' Database Lookup
6th-level divination

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self
Components: S, M (a tome worth at least 25gp)
Duration: Instantaneous

Name or describe a type of creature, class, spell or item. The spell brings to your mind a brief summary of the significant lore about the thing you named. The lore might consist of basic properties, weaknesses and vulnerabilities, or even meta-statistics that you have no right to know. If the thing you named is of legendary importance, you gain no information; this spell can only provide information about obscure and/or generic topics. You cause bubbles of magma to rise from the ground in a 20 foot radius. Each creature other than you in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, they take 8d10 fire damage. At level 1, it deals 2d4+6 damage. That's 11, as compared to GFB, which deals 1d8+3+3, which is 10.5.

At level 5, it deals 3d4+12. That's 19.5, as compared to GFB, which deals 2d8+4+3, which is 16.

At level 11, it deals 4d4+20, for 30 damage. As compared to GFB's 3d8+4+4, which is only 21.5.

At level 17, it's a whopping 5d4+25, for 37.5. As compared to GFB's 4d8+5+5, which is 28.

It's superior at every level.

I'll admit that I didn't actually do the maths the first time, but in hindsight I stand by my original instinct.

...but, but, your second +X assumes just that!

Okay, so the fact that MrStabby's Flurry of Steel is viable in more situations than Green-Flame Blade makes it intrinsically more powerful. I can get behind that. Would it be closer to the money if I added in the clause: "only one of these attacks may add your ability modifier to the damage roll, unless your modifier is negative." That cuts 20 damage off the top end, leaving it well under half of an optimal GFB.

And that'd nerf it to uselessness. Honestly, I think giving Extra Attack as a cantrip is just a bad idea, period.

I've given it a gentler nerf - you have to hit in succession now, so instead of 2 attacks, you get more like 1.5. In my head, it seems like that would be a lot of fun...

Duration: 10 minutes

The portal will reject any item other than foodstuffs, though it will accept magical foods and potions. You may only have one pocket dimension associated with this spell; whenever you cast this spell, the portal opens to the same dimension, unless you know the nature and contents of a dimension created by another creature using this spell, in which case you can choose to connect to that instead.
When the spell ends, the portal closes and the pocket dimension is sealed off. While it is sealed, time does not pass so the foodstuffs inside do not spoil or change in any way.

When the spell ends, the portal closes and the pocket dimension is sealed off. While it is sealed, time does not pass so the foodstuffs inside do not spoil or change in any way.

Oh my, it's so beautiful.

BlackSymphony's Dissonant Tuning
5th level Necromancy
Casters: Bard, Cleric, Wizard
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range Touch
Components: V, S, M (A magic item that requires attunement)
Duration: 8 hours

You cause the magic item used as the spell's material component to bestow a curse on others who attune to it for the duration. When you cast the spell, you choose the nature of the curse from the same options as Bestow Curse. Other people who attune to the magic item must make a Wisdom saving throw or have the curse afflict them, removing it from the item. If they succeed on the save, it stays in the item to affect the next person whom attunes to it. You can designate any number of people to automatically succeed on the save. A Remove Curse spell applied to person afflicted ends the effect.
A magic item can only have this effect applied to it once. Attempting to add second curse to an item notifies the caster there is a curse made by this spell on the item already, and lets them either alter the existing curse or remove it in order to create a new one.
At Higher Levels If you cast this spell using a spell slot of 7th or 8th level, the duration is 24 hours. If you cast it with a 9th level spell slot, it lasts until dispelled.

Notes: Bestow Curse is on PHB p218, Remove Curse is on PHB p271
This doesn't have the options Bestow Curse does for a 1 or 10 minute duration because attuning to a magic item takes an hour. The spell would end before it could ever possibly take effect.
Custom options for Bestow Curse can also be used for this spell.
Remove Curse can't remove this spell from a magic item because it only breaks attumement with cursed magic items, not the curse itself. DM is free to rule that Remove Curse can break this spell's hold on an item.
The increased casting time and rare material component should prevent this from edging out Bestow Curse.

Okay, I got another permission (and collaboration on the spell's function) via PM...

JakOfAllTirades' Power Word: Thrill
6th-level illusion

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

This spell creates a thrilling illusion of pleasurable sensations that overwhelms the mind of one humanoid target, causing it to become Charmed by the caster for the duration. The charmed target can make a Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a successful save, the Charmed effect ends.

Here's a non-user version of this spell that occurred to me almost instantly: Succubus' Promise. As above, except the target must be able to hear the caster and they must share a language. The target feels the sensation of an appealing member of the same race pressing against them and whispering impossibly delightful things into their ear.

Mgshamster's Ocular Assault
Conjuration Cantrip

Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action
Range: Self (Special, see text)
Components: V,S (Special, see text)
Duration: See text

With a wave of their hand, the caster conjures a small rodent in their hand superficially similar to the common hamster. As an Action, you may fling the rodent at another creature within 30 feet, as long as you shout 'Go for the eyes!' while doing so. Make a ranged spell attack against the target creature. On a hit, the rodent latches to the target and scurries about biting and scratching for the duration, focusing on the area around the eyes or similar sensory organs if possible. At the start of each of the target's turns, the target takes 1d6 piercing damage and grants Advantage to the next attack made against it. Attempting to grab, hurt, or otherwise hinder the rodent will cause it to squeak loudly and evade the attempt, but otherwise continue its assault; any creature doing so feels a vague sense of disapproval, as if a Ranger were glaring at them. When the duration expires, a ghostly muscled hand appears, grabs the rodent, and vanishes with it.

Special: At 1st Level, the rodent remains for 1 round.
At 5th Level, the rodent remains for 2 rounds.
At 11th Level, the rodent remains for 3 rounds.
At 17th Level, the rodent remains for 4 rounds.

Are there any current cantrips that act this way? Closest I can think of is Vicious Mockery. If we model it after that, then instead of lasting for multiple rounds, we'd just up the damage by one die at each interval.

(I also don't have all the cantrips memorized).

Pretty much. Ongoing offensive cantrips really aren't a thing, so I figured that there was room for one. The reason that I don't want a Dex save to remove it is that it's already doing less damage itself than most other cantrips, so giving it a chance to not even do all of it after hitting seemed like over kill. Plus, it's a reference to you not being able to do anything to free up the potion slot a certain Ranger's own MGSHamster was occupying. And being weaker than other cantrips like that when it's inspired by Boo just seemed like a betrayal :smalltongue:

AvatarVecna's Unholy Summoning
9th-level necromancy (ritual)

Casting Time: 1 hour
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (Unholy relics, symbols, incense and candles worth at least 2,000gp, which the spell consumes)
Duration: 24 hours

This vile ritual is taught by the lich-god Vecna to his most favoured servants, allowing them to summon an avatar of Vecna into their presence. It is better not to dwell on what price they must pay to gain this power.
When you cast this spell, you must target a living humanoid that is either restrained or incapacitated for the duration. Once the casting is complete, the target must make a Charisma saving throw; on a failure the target becomes host for a piece of Vecna's spirit. They have disadvantage on the save if they are incapacitated. While possessed, the taget's game statistics (except for appearance and size category) are replaced by those of a lich - note that this spell does not provide a phylactery, so the Rejuvenation feature does not function. The DM has the avatar's statistics.
The avatar has the personality and alignment of Vecna, but is an independent being and not under his direct control. It is friendly towards the summoner and generally willing to aid them in their endeavours.
If the avatar is destroyed, Vecna's spirit leaves the host, who then drops to 0 hit points and must start making death saves. If the spell's duration expires before this, Vecna's spirit again leaves the host, but they unharmed and have no recollection of the last 24 hours.

Grod_The_Giant's Awesome Power
1st-level transmutation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a giant's toe)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Choose a willing creature within you can see within range. Its Strength score is changed to 21 for the duration. If its Strength was already higher than this, the spell has no effect.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, the target's Strength score is set to a value equal to 20 + the slot level used.

TheTeaMustFlow's Drinkable Warmth
3rd level Transmutation
Casters: Bard, Ranger
Casting Time: 1 minute
Range 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (A tea leaf, which is consumed during the casting)
Duration: 1 hour
You cause up to 5 cups of water or tea in range to become magical tea for the duration. Drinking a cup of this tea causes the person who did so to regain 1d6 hit points, and become resistant to cold damage for the rest of the duration. If the magical tea isn't drunk before the duration ends, it becomes mundane tea.
At Higher Levels. If you cast this spell with a spell slot of 4th level or higher, the tea restores an extra 1d6 hit points for each level above 3rd. If you cast this spell with a spell slot of 9th level, it provides immunity to cold damage instead of resistance.

Range 120ft.

It takes 3d6 cold and 3d6 acid damage as it's sent hurtling through the Elder's Realm. For each spell level above third used to cast this spell, the target takes an additional 1d6 cold damage and 1d6 acid damage.

NecroDancer's Danse Macabre
2nd-level necromancy

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (a skull)
Duration: 1 minute

Choose an undead creature you can see within range. It must make a Wisdom saving throw or begin dancing with unnatural skill; a creature may voluntarily fail this save.
While dancing, the target must move at exactly half of its maximum walking speed in a straight line (it may not remain in place unless it is incapable of walking, nor may it take the Dash action) in any direction it pleases, taking 1d6 bludgeoning damage for every obstacle or creature it collides with. Furthermore, it gains proficiency in dancing, automatically knows the steps to all kinds of dances and has advantage on Dexterity saves and Performance checks involving dance.
A dancing creature may take actions as normal, but they must be incorporated seamlessly into the dance. Therefore, the target has disadvantage on attack rolls, as all of their moves are telegraphed.
The target may attempt the save again at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, you may target one additional undead creature for each slot level above 2nd.

Having seen this thread pop up so many times I'm now curious. But not being very regular in the playground would make creating me as a spell difficult for many, or so I think.

Please check the thread rules; I have explicitly forbidden making spells for yourself. Part of the point of this is to celebrate forum myths and in-jokes, and to help create a sense of togetherness and community. That is why we make spells for other people. Also because it's (usually) nice when people put your name up in lights, whereas it looks kind of selfish when you do it yourself.

I will take your post as granting permission though - at this rate, you'll be a forum legend by the time anyone gets around to posting many more spells... :smallfrown:

Edit: what I will say, though, is that it's okay to help other people make a spell for you. If you've got some ideas, or there's some aspect of yourself you want to highlight, you can do that. As examples, the spells I made for Douche, DracoKnight, EvilAnagram and JakOfAllTirades all involved some input from those guys.

Casting: Time: 1 reaction

Components: V, S, M, (a bolt of brightly colored cloth, and a small mirror)
Duration: instantaneous

you summon a burst of bright color to interrupt a creature in the process of casting a spell. If the creature is casting a spell of 3rd level or lower, it's spell fails and has no effect. If it's spell is 4th level or higher, make an ability check of 11 plus the creature's spell's level using your spellcasting ability. On a success the creature's spell fails and has no effect and it has to make an intellect saving throw or be blinded and stunned for 1 round.

Summon Substitute
Level 1 spell - conjuration
(V, S, M(a drink of choice), Ritual)
1 action

This spell must be cast as a ritual within 24 hours of the death of an ally, the caster calls out to the 4 cardinal directions while cradling a drink and using the words "I'm looking for a trustworthy fellow!" If the spell is successful (depending on whether the player who lost his/her character can create a new character) an ally appears in front of the caster and answers the caster with the words: "I am a trustworthy fellow, buy me a drink and we can discuss terms.". The drink is consumed during the casting of the spell and cannot be recovered. Depending on the negotiation between the ally (i.e. player's new character) and the caster the ally may join the party on its quest.

Components: V, M (a melee weapon)
Duration: Instantaneous

As part of the action used to cast this spell, you must make a melee attack with a weapon against one creature within the spell's range, otherwise the spell fails. On a hit, the target suffers the attack's normal effects and you drain life energy from them, gaining 1d4 temporary hit points.
This spell deals additional damage when you reach higher levels. At 5th level, the melee attack deals an extra 1d6 necrotic damage to the target, and you gain 2d4 temporary hit points. The damage roll increases by a further 1d6 and the hit points by 1d4 at 11th level and 17th level.

I know Psyren from the Wheel of Time (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?491291-An-Enemy-Spy-Reads-The-Wheel-of-Time-II-Randy-s-Horny-Hunt) thread over in Media Discussions, but I don't think I've ever seen him in the 5e subforum (though apparently he has nearly 400 posts here :smallconfused:). It's amazing how someone can be a legend on one part of the forum and unknown in the next.

IIRC he was a lot more active before the edition actually came out, being fairly active in the "what should the new edition be like" threads.

Also a joy on the threads discussing the interaction between 3.5's Hellfire Warlock and Strongheart Vest, once culminating in this brilliant gem:

I doubt Incarnum is as valuable to them as actual souls, otherwise all fiends would take up meldshaping.

Not saying I'm against the Strongheart Vest trick (which is endlessly, endlessly wrangled on these boards) but I find that fluff rationale to be hollow.

I see Incarnum as being like tofu. Sure you can shape it to look like a steak, and even add steak flavoring, but it's never going to be a steak.

My new colleague Submortimer is up next

Submortimer's Sonar
1st-level divination (ritual)

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S, M (an ear horn)
Duration: 24 hours

This spell enhances the underwater senses of one willing creature you can see within range. The creature's visual range (as defined on page 117 of the DMG) is doubled for all water types and they have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks while underwater. In addition, the creatures gains a special underwater tremorsense that allows them to pinpoint any Tiny or larger creature that is swimming within 300 feet of them. This tremorsense does not function if the creature is deafened.

Brillant! I want to use this on a Water Genasi now
Maybe for those non-Water Genasi, have it also grant a swim speed equal to walking speed and bump it to 2nd level?

I thought about that; initially I visualised it as an all-singing-all-dancing spell that would give a swim speed, water breathing and water-vision. But Alter Self and Water Breathing already exist and the latter is a ritual. A spell combining all three would end up being a prohibitively high level. Keeping the spell small makes it more accessible and lets people fill in the pieces they don't get from their race/class.

If we had a 'GitP Regulars as Items' thread, I'd totally do a submersible Apparatus of Kwalish though!

VoxRationis' Calming Presence
4th-level abjuration

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Self (60-foot radius)
Components: V
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes

Your presence suppresses strong emotions in anyone nearby. Each creature in a 60-foot-radius sphere centered on yourself must make a Charisma saving throw; a creature can choose to fail this saving throw if it wishes. If a creature fails its saving throw, it is subject to the following effects.
Firstly, any effect causing an affected creature to be charmed or frightened is suppressed. When this spell ends, any suppressed effect resumes, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime. In addition, creatures affected by this spell become indifferent to any creatures of your choice that they were hostile towards. This indifference ends if the target is attacked or harmed by a spell or if it witnesses any of its friends being harmed. When the spell ends, the creature becomes hostile again, unless the DM rules otherwise.

...And while I'm here, I'd also like to point you towards the spellbrewing competition I recently started (see sig). Accepting entries until the end of November!

I'll toss my hat in the ring.

I tend to lurk and read with great interest. When I post, it's 70/30 to be an aside that amuses me, or something germane and hopefully clever or interesting.

In real life I am a professional woodworker (hence the saw cutie mark) and geek; I made tables for Geek Chic for four years, for instance.

Based on events from this thread (http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?505159-How-to-make-a-player-lich)...

Vogonjeltz's Training Montage
5th-level transmutation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 30 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Choose up to six creatures within range to engage in a training montage sequence. For every round you concentrate, up to 24 hours of tasks can be condensed and completed by the affected creatures. This includes downtime activities such as crafting, training, research, resting and recuperation. All affected creatures and any objects they use in the montage age by the amount of time the montage requires. While concentrating, any creature within 30 feet of an affected creature hears inspiring and thematically appropriate music for whatever tasks are undertaken. An unwilling creature may attempt a Charisma saving throw at the beginning of each round to escape the montage; success prevents both the aging and training.
Creatures under the influence of this spell may not undertake any actions or cast any spells that would affect a creature not under the influence of this spell, though they can be affected by creatures outside the spell's effect.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of a higher level, the time dilation increases to 10 days per round with a 6th-level slot, 30 days with a 7th-level slot, 180 days with an 8th-level slot, and a year with a 9th-level slot.

Thread's been quiet for a while... anyone feel like writing any spells? I'll see if I can come up with something...

Quintessence's Ineffable Extract
1st-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: Touch
Components: V, S, M (a set of alchemist's supplies worth at least 50gp)
Duration: Instantaneous

You distill a small quantity (around 4fl. oz.) of magical essence from the Weave itself. As an object interaction, you can mix this extract with a potion in order to double that poition's duration, a flask of oil to double to the duration for which it will burn, a flask of holy water to double the damage it deals to fiends and undead, or a skin of drinking water to halve the amount of it you need to drink to stay hydrated.
If you do not use it within 24 hours, the extract loses its magic.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you distill one additional 4fl. oz. dose of extract for each slot level above 1st.

The spell is taken from your love of woodworking and a thread I read a year (or longer) ago about wizards drinking martinis in deckchairs while fighting a balor.

Summon Occasional Sage's Deckchair
1st-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 bonus-action
Range: 5' radius
Components: V (your martini preference), S (holding a cocktail glass by the stem), M (A small piece of teak)
Duration: see text

When you cast this spell you summon a deckchair with cushions. it comes with a side table to hold drinks on which stands a martini. The deckchairs can only be cast during combat when the Wizard sees no need to take any additional actions. The deckchair persists while combat goes on or until the caster directly interferes with the combat again, whichever comes sooner.
At Higher Levels. When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 2nd level or higher, you summon one additional deckchair for each slot level above 1st.

JackPhoenix's Reviving Inferno
5th level Evocation
Casters: Paladin
Casting Time: 1 Action
Range 60 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Instantaneous

A creature of your choice at 0 hit points within range, except an undead or construct, regains 5d10 hit points. Then, any other creatures within a 10 foot sphere centered on the target must make a Dexterity saving throw. They take 5d6 fire damage on a failed save, and half as much on a successful one.

Hi everyone. It seems like our collective enthusiasm for this little project has run out, so after this, I'm not going to bump it again. Please bear in mind the thread necromancy rules if you stumble upon this thread in the future; you are perfectly welcome to start a new thread if you want to continue the legacy.

So then. A couple of spells, to catch up on a few requests...

Dark Shadow's Umbral Step
3rd-level conjuration

Casting Time: 1 bonus action
Range: Self
Components: S
Duration: Instantaneous

Briefly surrounded by shadows and smoke, you teleport up to 120 feet to an dimly-lit or dark unoccupied space that you can see. You also have advantage on any Dexterity (Stealth) checks you make until the start of your next turn.

Meepo's Burning Flames of Fire
2nd-level evocation

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 120 feet
Components: V, S, M (a piece of brimstone)
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

Choose one spell or effect you can see within range that deals ongoing fire damage such as a bonfire, creature doused in alchemical fire or Flaming Sphere spell. For the duration, the target gains the following benefits:

The fire continues to burn, even if its fuel source would be exhausted or (if a spell) its duration would expire.
The fire cannot be extinguished by either mundane or magical means.
Whenever the fire deals damage, that damage is increased by 1d6.
Damage dealt by the fire ignores resistance to fire damage and treats immunity as if it were resistance.
If the fire sheds light, the radius of that light is doubled.

ZenBear's Calm Monster
4th-level enchantment

Casting Time: 1 action
Range: 90 feet
Components: V, S
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute

You attempt to suppress strong emotions in a group of creatures. Each creature in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within range must make a Charisma saving throw; a creature can choose to fail this saving throw if it wishes. If a creature fails its saving throw, choose one of the following two effects.
You can suppress any effect causing a target to be charmed or frightened, possessed or turned. When this spell ends, any suppressed effect resumes, provided that its duration has not expired in the meantime.
Alternatively, you can make a target indifferent about creatures of your choice that it is hostile toward. This indifference ends if the target is attacked or harmed by a spell or if it witnesses any of its friends being harmed. When the spell ends, the creature becomes hostile again, unless the DM rules otherwise.

But first
Ahem sariels succulent strip
7 level enhancement wisdom save with a range of 60 feet
Material componets 10 gp and silken underwear

The target spends 10 minutes stripping seductively and must succeed a wisdom save to stop they have advantage if struck. You can give disadvantage at the cost of throwing 5 additional gold pieces.

One, this thread is technically considered dead, and I believe it might get locked any time because thread necromancy is prohibited by the rules.

Two, the idea is not to make spells about You, by You. The point was that someone else wrote a spell out of what they might know about you.
