Careful Spell with ongoing AoE spells?

Does anyone know how the Careful Spell metamagic power is supposed to work with ongoing spell effects? Spells like Web, Sleet Storm, Stinking Cloud (among many others) that may ask for saving throws every round. Has this been addressed in a Sage Advice article yet?

I always read it as you always make the save, even with concentration based AoE spells. Can't see a reason for it not to work that way.

Agreed. Heightened calls out the initial save only, I assume careful would too if that were the intention.
